Since moving up to Stamford from Manhattan the Fella and I have diligently tried to find NYC quality Chinese take out(We miss you Six Happiness!!!) — that has not happened yet, Bamboo is generally darn decent and at times pretty good–(the fried pork dumplings are delicious) though. It is very much a mom and pop operation, she stands up front quiet but very sweet,(I have witnessed other customers be terrible to her, makes me sad and mad.!) She answers the phone/places the orders, works the register, and packs the bags so any flurry of activity can slow things down quite a bit. She always reminds me to take free sodas as they have the usual spend blank get blank coupons, can’t picture being reminded to take advantage of an offer in Manhattan. There is a huge problem with consistency, I suspect they have a relief chef that is not as deft, or perhaps it is vice versa. I never remember to peek at which face is in the kitchen and keep track of the food quality that experience. On the off days meat is poorly trimmed, sauces lack in flavor and fried rice falls into that just rice covered in soy sauce territory. That said Hubbie gets the fried chicken wings, really tasty crispy coating moist, yummy inside, and pretty much always good, often great. On the good days the moo shu pork has very nice fresh blend of flavors, generally skimpy on the meat but that’s not something I really mind, however I know it might upset others. The fried rice is good, much closer to the real thing and a white meat General Tsao’s(my guilty, gooey Chinese junk food) is meaty and crunchy and a nice balance of flavors. I totally heart their egg rolls! I Seriously I really like them, nice and crispy, great flavor– tasty! Won ton soup has a nice broth. I love good Chinese spare ribs, ballpark I’d say 25% of the time Bamboo has them Both the boneless and the traditional can arrive crunchy and red black outside pink meat inside, lean but not dry with the sweet rich charred flavor that makes the good ones so good. Other times they are fatty and funky tasting, I still take the gamble from time to time though. Overall it hits a spot for Sunday night Chinese cravings, not quite dead in the bulls eye but it gets the job done. Prices are reasonable, portions decent. They offer delivery but it seems to be a jumbled process and we live nearby so we always do pick up– even when it means popping out in the rain. They added a Japanese and Thai menu a couple of years ago but I haven’t messed with that.

Terrible experience. I found a finger nail in my food. Owner was a jerk– don’t go!

Worst delivery service ever! Ordered food at 6:23 p.m. and it is now 8:00 p.m. Nothing… I called and told them to cancel my order, and the girl told me to tell the manager when he arrives with our food, and then she hung up on me. She has hung up on me 2x! Save your money and time! Update: It is 8:30 and they never arrived. I called the restaurant back, and after 12 rings, the owner answered with a «hello.» I asked if this was Bamboo, and he said yes. He told me that he knew what I was calling about, and that the cashier told him to cancel the order. She never informed us, so we continued to wait. He apologized and told me he had a huge order over $ 100.00. I told him that was not my fault, and they should have told me about the wait. I asked for a refund on my card, and he told me it was deleted from their system. NEVERWILL I ORDERORDINEINATTHISPLACE!

Continuing my search for the perfect Chinese Dumpling, I stopped by Bamboo with a friend and my father on the day they helped me move to a new apartment in the area. Let me first say this: despite the dingy and questionably clean interior and despite the fact that I don’t generally trust any restaurant that doesn’t stick to just 1 kind of cuisine, Bamboo’s owners are clearly making a solid attempt at making their food hot and fresh. Cons: There was a hair in my chicken with Chinese vegetables, but the proprietor gladly took my plate away and made me a new dish. Their Japanese food takes a long time for them to compose(I don’t think it’s their specialty) and wasn’t all that great. We chose to eat in the restaurant(they have about 6 or 7 tables) and they served our food on styrofoam plates and gave us plastic forks. Weird that they don’t have real cutlery and plates for those who choose to dine in. They brought my friend an order of the wrong sushi — and interesting feat, considering we were the only ones in the restaurant at the time. Pros: I got the pork dumplings to share with my friend and they were EASILY the best dumplings I’ve had in Connecticut, not that it’s much of a competition really. The skins are thin and the pork inside is plentiful(though one of the dumplings had some gristle in it). The chicken and Chinese vegetables was served piping hot and the vegetables were crispy and fresh. Spring rolls and egg rolls were extra crispy and the spring roll did not contain shrimp. Price was reasonable. Meh: My father got the sesame chicken and fried rice lunch special. Neither was anything to write home about. All in all, I’d eat here again but would be vigilant about missing or wrong orders and cleanliness
