Different selections than Bev Max. Prices are about the same.

I did not know Fairway had liquor stores. And Im not sure they should be branching out that way, as opposed to more supermarkets. But given that I came across this one recently, I had to stop in. It is next to the Fairway supermarket in Stamford, but it has a separate entrance. They do share a parking lot, which makes the parking lot busier than the already busy Fairway ones usually are. This is a large store with many choices. Especially of spirits. They had brands I have not been able to find easily in other places. Some were even on sale. I took care of some Holiday shopping here. The wine section is also extensive. Prices are set by CT, its one of the states where they set a minimum price for bottles of alcohol and wines. I don’t know the purpose of that, but it results in some wines being more costly than one would expect if coming from NY. I really enjoyed my visit here. The employees were super nice and helpful. They even looked up a wine for me that was not on the shelves. If I had known they existed I could have called ahead and had it ordered for me to pickup when in the area. That’s helpful. So while I prefer the«mom and pop» liquor stores and will try to shop in them, this is a very nice store and I have to give it the shout-out it deserves. So I’m a fan fits, its true. But I’ll still shop mom and pop 98% of the time.

Tough call. Solid selection of wine, beer, sake and spirits. I buy a fair amount of wine at wide price points throughout year. Work near Fairway so easy to stop in. Recent experiences there pushing me to make slightly longer trek to other shops(and for real finds and best bubbles, Fountainhead). Two of these experiences to illustrate. First was when looking for a case of daily drinker I found an interesting Chinon on the rack. Noticed on my wine app that the same maker’s vouvray was a highly-rated pick of the year. The guy on the floor couldn’t tell me if they stocked it. Manager was near office so I asked him. He paused for a second, said ‘No’ and turned away to something else. I’m sure he was busy. But he lost a good chance to share his knowledge and sell another case or two. Second. Buying a gift magnum. First it rang up for 750 ml bottle. Try again. Second ring up was for jeroboam. I mentioned to manager that I didn’t notice a jeroboam in wine room and could be interested in that. He goes into back room to search. Ringing up and wrapping stop for results of his search. Minutes pass and the manager returns with no bottle but a pizza box in hand. My wife thought this was pretty funny. I don’t mind him multi-tasking, but he can at least pretend to be fully focused on the customer for a few minutes. They finally get the SKU right for magnum and we head out. So for now I guess I’ll go there for beer and sake, but will direct my special bottle shopping to places where they have a passion for sharing what they have and why they are different.

The location is great being next to Fairway however you pay a bit more for being so accessible. I’ve found the wines to be $ 2-$ 3 more than other stores and the beer is somtimes about the same mark up. The selection should satisfy most folks especially as far as craft beer goes. A decent bottle of wine will cost about $ 14-$ 16 to start if you want something other than a blend. The liqour selection has a strong variety, but they only sell in 750ml or larger. You can take returnables back at the main store at customer service. Generally this a quick fix if I’m not near Total Wine and don’t want to put up with the hassle of bevmax.

Wow how I love you Fairway! Here is a summary of this foodie paradise location, Just after the entrance there is a plethora of fruits and vegetables, both whole and already cut for those who like to eat on the run. Then you hit the amazing cheese section. Yes, you have died and gone to curd heaven where at least a hundreds options wait for you. Just after cheese is the olive oil bar. Yes, you heard it right. Around 40 delicious olive oils and vinegars are yours to sample with bread. There’s an excellent seafood and meat section against the back wall. I love organics so there ‘s plenty of that here. In addition, what puts them over the top is the wide variety of ethnic foods stocked in their spacious aisles. Other standout sections are the make your own peanut butter area and a huge variety of freshly baked breads. Now on to the liquor store which is right next to the good market but a completely separate entity. They have a great wine and beer selection from all around the world, plus all the liquor you’d want under one room. Fairway, thank you for coming to CT. We love you.

Int’l and domestic vino selection is pretty much the gen’l mass distributed usual suspects but a few brownies for one of the better sake selections north of midtown.

Excellent in every way. I go there almost every week and the service is always friendly and fast. Managers are visible and the selection is wonderful. Before it opened, I had to begrudgingly go to Bev-Max where, although a nice selection, the service was consistantly sub-par and unfriendly. Thank goodness the fairway Wines and Liquors opened. A customer for life.
