I recently had some dental work done at Hanna and Mazer Dental and felt completely scammed by the whole process. I was new to the area and a friend had recommended them to me. I found out that I had two cavities, and scheduled an appointment to have them filled. I gave them my insurance policy, and asked them how much it would cost me out of pocket. They told me that my policy would cover 80% of the bill, and that I would have to pay $ 160 out of pocket. So I had the work done, paid the $ 160 only to receive a bill a week later for an additional $ 400+. It turned out that they had quoted me for an in-network negotiated rate, while they were out of network. I tried to get an understanding from them as to why I was quoted at $ 160 dollars, and then charged far more. Every time I called, or my employer called we received a different explanation. First it was that they gave me a more expensive filling, and then it was that they were out of network, and that the quote they gave me was an «estimated quote», and not an actual quote. No one had ever told me that it was estimated, and I explained to them that I was in a financially difficult situation, that I could not afford another $ 400+. I told them that had I known how expensive the dental work would be, I would have gone somewhere else. I asked repeatedly to speak to a manger regarding the issue without any success. When I told them that I would go to the Better Business Bureau to get this resolved, they threatened to raise the interest rate on what I owed them, while telling me that if I did not pay them they would take me to court. Out of fear of having my interest rate raised I just paid of my balance(to be fair they did give me 10% off for paying in full). I am extremely dissatisfied with this entire experience. It felt like a «bait and switch» scheme. I have been to many dentists before, and all are explicitly clear with how much my insurance policy covers, and what I will have to pay out of pocket with no surprises. There are plenty of other dentists in the area to go to that run a far more honest business.

Very personable but I wouldn’t recommend it. They do not keep the best financial records and have made mistakes with my account. Before trying to figure out the solution I was sent to collections for money that I paid. I’m not suing over a couple hundred dollars but it was a major inconvenience. Put a bad taste in my mouth and I still have unfinished work:(. There are other dentists to chose from in the area
