Had their cooked salmon fillet at a party. Foodie hostess said she buys New Wave because she cannot make it better herself. Website is a disappointment. What fish do you have on hand and what is the pricing?

They always have the freshest fish. I’ve tried several different fish markets in Fairfield county, this one is the best.

Beautiful seafood and well prepared sandwiches. We had lobster rolls and a soft shell crab sandwich. Worth a trip if you’re in Stamford,

I love these guys! It is without a doubt the best place to buy fish in Stamford. They have a nice selection of wild and farmed fish. The quality is superb! All of the employees are welcoming and friendly. Fairway doesn’t even come close. In fact I dread buying fish from there since I have discovered New Wave

Not sure what happened with the poor reviews. I usually stop by once a week to pick something up and it’s always been high quality and fresh. Check out their daily special on their web page, I grabbed sushi grade yellowtail for 13.95 a lb today! Another thing to remember, if you call ahead they’ll steam and crack your lobsters for you — at no cost! Special night with ease!

The fish at New Wave is fresh and they have a good selection of wild fish available. By «good selection» I don’t mean dozens of different kinds of fish. They keep a small, manageable rotation of probably 5 wild fish and 4 farm-raised at any given time. I find this comforting because I trust that they keep inventory manageable guaranteeing only the freshest fish. Prices here are on par with the prices I’ve seen at Stew Leonard’s which is lower than my co-worker pays at Whole Foods. Staff is helpful if you have questions, If not, they get you in and out very quickly.

I was a long-time customer of the beloved and now closed Stamford Fish & Seafood, and New Wave is the only other seafood store in town, so it’s the only option beyond the wildly overpriced but decent selection at Fairway and the crummy offerings at the other supermarkets. I find the selection at New Wave very limited and it never varies. The service is efficient but brusque, with no personal touch or friendly chit chat. The fish has been generally okay, though I had some awful swordfish and haven’t had the nerve to try it again. It’s nice that they carry great local bread(if you get there early enough – it sells out fast). At Passover they had no clue what I was talking about when I asked if they could grind fish for homemade gefilte fish(they couldn’t). The cole slaw and potato salad are poor. And the location is pretty inconvenient for those of us who live in the northern part of town. Every time I go to New Wave I’m reminded how much I miss Stamford Fish and Seafood’s selection, service and prepared foods. That place was a labor love. New Wave is just a business.

What is the most important thing about a fish store? Yep. Fresh fish. If the folks in the store are knowledgeable that is a bonus, when the fish is fairly priced, even better, but if you want, need, demand(?) fresh fish, this is the place. What’s not to like? Not much, but with wholesale lobster prices at an all-time low… Go ahead, stick a tad bit more in that yummy lobster roll!

The best seafood in the area, very fresh and the price is right. The staff is very friendly and helpful. I shop there about once a week, it’s the pearl of Springdale.

Bad experiences time after time. Rude guys working there and they are definitely gouging customers with their prices as is indicated by their $ 150,000 plus cars parked in the best parking spots of their lot.

Recently discovered New Wave and I am so happy I did. They have a wide variety of products fresh, frozen and prepared. A pleasant surprise was that they actually have a take away menu, the fish and chips is great as well as the Clam chowder and lobster roll. Everything looks extremely fresh and the place is clean… no fishy smell. My new go to fish market.

They were very kind to send out a mailer card to the local community for a free(packaged) cup of their chowder. The NE chowder was outstanding. I couldn’t stop eating it. I have been going here for a number of years, mainly for holiday shopping. They have a very good business.

tried the crab cakes today. Awful texture and tasteless. Totally not fresh either. Better crab cakes by far at Fairway, The man at counter told me they were made in NJ. What kind of self respecting seafood place doesnt even make their own crabcakes. Wont be back.

I am a fussy fish buyer, and this is THE place for fresh fish in lower Fairfield County! And the best lobster salad anywhere! My 87 year old dad agrees, and he’s been a lobster salad fan for a little while! :) Every visit, that lobster salad travels from CT to NJ, and it’s so fresh it’s still divine the next day and the day after that! Back home I routinely ask for salmon with the skin on(great for grilling), and they always have been happy to retrieve a fish to accommodate me. Salt, pepper and olive oil, and suddenly I’m a gourmet chef! It’s all the quality of the fish. More than a year after a taste, a friend from Manhattan asked where she could buy some while here. Everyone raves about it — no exaggeration.(Seal it hot and then cook low and slow, skin side down, to buttery medium rare. Heaven!) Not made on premises, but wonderful(from MA, I think) are the crab or cod cakes and other prepared and frozen foods. Buy a sealed package frozen and enjoy any time! They, too, travel well and often. Out of the way for me, but New Wave is well worth the drive, and we are so lucky to have them!

I go here for my seafood purchases because it’s convenient, but I have to say I’m not really impressed with the selection. The place is HUGE, but they only have two cases with fish, one with shellfish and one with prepared foods, plus some whole fish in limited quantities. Maybe I’m missing something? The quality of the fish is fine, don’t get me wrong, but the selection is a bit underwhelming when you compare it to The Lobster Place or something like that. I also wasn’t enthused that they wouldn’t fillet my whole fish. Maybe I’ve been spoiled by other establishments like The Lobster Place in the city, but I think it should be a basic service of a seafood shop to prepare fish if requested — goodness knows I have no friggin’ idea how to do it!
