Public Power

Complete scam… read the fine print… it says the rates are variable. I finally decided to carefully read my electric bill and I realized I was paying about 5 additional dollars to have my service generated through public power. My landlord recommended everyone in the building to switch to them because they offer lower prices, but I just checked Public Power’s website and it says they have a 20 dollar refer a friend/​someone you know program, so be weary of recommendations to switch to these crooks.

I was a customer of Public Power for a year. One of the reasons I signed up was for a relatively good rate plus a $ 50.00 rebate after the one year anniversary. The rebate should have been issued in January 2015 and here it is April and I am still waiting. I have emailed Public Power and got a robo-​response saying someone would contact me in a couple days. That didn’t happen. Then from February to April I made 6 phone calls and talked to various reps. Initially I was told to wait 6 to 8 weeks for the rebate to be processed. After 10 weeks I called and was told that someone would look into it and would get back to me within 6 days. That was 2 weeks ago. I have since called 3 times to talk to the rep who was helping me but I am told each time that he is not available but that he will call me back. I’m being given the run-​around. My next email will be to the BBB and Connecticut’s Department of Public Utilities. Avoid doing business with this company.

Do NOT CHOOSE them for your ESCO — They charge a rediculous price — this month their charge for supply is more than 50% of my total ConEd bill! They charge nearly 20 cents per kWh! Essentially they are more than just staying with ConEd.

How many of us sing praise of ConEd for your electric bill?
In NY, you can select a competitor to ConEd. Yes, you would think that the alternative would be less expensive. Not if you select Public Power LLC. They called me to switch (ok, I should have said no). Since the sales pitch sounded fine, I agreed. My bad.
I know that electric prices is not a sexy topic; however, you can save significant money, which you can spend on sexier topics.
Electric should cost 11 cents to 12 cents per kWh, AND NOT CHANGE. (It’s on your bill — easy to find.). It can be lower, but may change monthly — some months lower and some higher… but probably average 11 cents to 12 cents for the year. Thanks to Public Power LLC, my bills are substantially higher. Yes, I’m the fool. Now I read my electric bill… but only on boring rainy nights… with the lights on, of course. Back to ConEd!
