We used to go here all the time when we first moved here. It used to be pretty tasty. The food has gone down hill and their prices have gotten higher. I won’t go back because the owner is not friendly. Had a bad experience with him. We will not return. The food was awful the last time we went.

Pros: the one restaurant nearby our campsite(heavenly acres). Needed something to go and can last through the night. The workers were friendly. Cons: ordered the meat lovers pizza and it wasmediocre. A bit too greasy. Overall: i would come back and try the other food on their really big menu

We’re two years new to the area from NJ and my wife and two kids have been to Sal’s on several occasions. The food is only so-so and we usually experience pretty slow service. We kept trying though, and recently brought our friends and their 2 kids there for the first time after a close kids activity wrapped up. Again, the food was ok, but we had a problem when trying to pay. Each family happened to have a coupon from the ‘Attractions’ book and wanted to use them. However, the waitress stated that they could only accept one coupon per table(this was not stated on the coupon). We talked to the owner about it, I assume it was Sal, and explained that we just happen to be sitting together and we were both paying separately. He said that it didn’t matter and that next time one family should sit over there(pointing to another table). We laughed, but he was serious and huffed away. There won’t be a next time for either family, sorry Sal’s.

The first time we ate at Sal’s we were meeting relatives and being used to Charlottesville and Richmond restaurants each person at the table ordered an appetizer. Honestly the servings were so generous our table was full of food and we were giggling like kids as we swapped platters around. Fried pickles, ravioli with marinara… and juicy zucchini and mushrooms. We’ve been back a number of times and my husband almost cannot be persuaded to try anything other than the meat lovers stromboli which he adores. I love to surf the menu. The seafood pasta was fabulous with huge shrimp and a generous serving of mussels, and clams in a flavorful sauce. The Belgian chocolate cheesecake was decadently good. My daughter loves the tiramisu. We have just never had a bad meal there and it has become a family gathering place. We even celebrated a 90th birthday there for my husband’s mother, utilizing the banquet room.

Stopped for lunch while passing through town. Enjoyed the pizza which we felt was very good. The specials look intriguing and the rest of the menu appears to standard Italian American fare with basic salads and sandwiches. So, pretty much anything you want. The staff was friendly and the service good. We would go back when in the area.

We’ve been a few times and after our last visit won’t be going back. It is always slow and takes a long time to get the food. This last visit a customer(who said she used to work there) said it’s because they put a priority on food that’s «to go» since the rest of us are already sitting in the restaurant. I think your best bet is just pizza to go. Tuesdays they have a decent special. The food is just frozen food that’s been cooked. I had a sandwhich the last time, remembering how much I disliked the food the previous time and even a simple sandwhich left a lot to be desired. It was a thin piece of chicken breast(like you would get off the $ 1 menu at McD’s). Absolutely nothing special about it. The space is crowded. It’s extremely overpriced for what you are getting, imo.

While visiting the area we had dinner at Sal’s Pizzeria. Decent place for a casual meal. We had a pasta and a stromboli, and both were good. Tap beer is available by the mug or jug, including a local choice. Service was very friendly.

This Italian restaurant has dining and carry out. It’s your standard mix of pizzas and Italian entrees, pasta and such. Service was pleasant and the rolls were tasty. Kid friendly(had crayons and coloring paper). Baked spaghetti was tasty and chicken Marsala was ok – unexpectedly spicy. This is not a stand out place but they’re convenient if you need some lunch or dinner. Also, there is a grocery store, dollar store, and gas station in this strip mall.

We ordered pickup from Sal’s and it almost seemed like they forgot about our order until I arrived to pick it up. It’s about what you would expect from the middle of Virginia. Doughy crust, and super cheap. They have coupons and offers on their webpage too. The sit down area was packed, and they did have a lot of other Italian offerings, so maybe the entrees are better than the pizza. Might check it out again if we’re in the area. Also, Unilocal is way off on the location. It’s actually in the shopping center at the intersection of Spotswood Trail and Monroe.

The food is okay, but I hate going in there unless it’s in full swing for dinner. At lunch time, it’s rather slow. Since they don’t have anything else to do, the staff will sit at the counter and chat quietly while they stare at you eating. It was incredibly uncomfortable. The waitress came once to refill our drinks, and that was after my boyfriend made really loud sucking sounds trying to get the soda at the bottom of the glass. Definitely not my first choice for pizza in Greene.
