I know what you’re thinking. You’re thinking — she’s REALLY reviewing Ricker?! And to that I answer — Yes. I’m really reviewing Ricker. I did it. Ricker lives up to its title of «probably the best dining hall on campus»(Stanford Unofficial Guide, 2015 – 2016). It’s peanut-sensitive, has vegan options, and clearly indicates if a dish has soy or dairy. The dining hall includes: — salad bar, with hard-boiled eggs and interesting cold quinoa & barley-based dishes — hot bar, with freshly-cooked vegetables and a variety of healthful dishes(highly recommended: steamed broccoli & carrots) — grill bar, usually with chicken breast, patties, and fries of some sort(with halal chicken provided upon request) — another bar for pizza, muffins, bagels and cream cheese, etc. Just past the main set of serving bars are a few other notable food options and appliances, including a hot soup/chowder bar, toaster/waffle iron, cereal, milk, chocolate milk and soy milk, a fruit & vegetable juicer, Hawaiian shave ice, an extensive dessert bar(yogurt, watermelon/pineapple/cantaloupe) and soft-serve ice cream & cones(real conical waffles, not those dinky little cylindrical«cones») with chocolate chips and sprinkles. There is ground-level seating as well as more private upper-level seating. These environments can be conducive to either group conversation or quieter studying. Ricker makes some good bread pudding. Basically all its baked goods are fantastic, especially the applesauce scones and chocolate muffins in the morning, and vegan pies they wheel out once in a while. My personal favorites are these baked goods, broccoli/carrots(as mentioned previously), and the mixed fruit in juice at the yogurt bar. tl;dr — Try it! Bravo.
