People think I’m crazy… often. Especially when it comes to college football. After all, how can I love a sport so dearly, that I’ve never played? I’ve visited Stanford University many times, but finally made it to the Athletic Hall of Fame. I wanted to see the Axe, of course, which Stanford won the day before after soundly defeating Cal. But, I was also eager to get a taste of Stanford history and perhaps send a little wish to the football gods that my team would make another visit to Pasadena. Well, chanting in front of those Rose Bowl banners must have done the trick. Because here we are just a couple weeks later and I’ll be joining my beloved Cardinal in Pasadena for a date with destiny at the 100th Rose Bowl. Stanford played in the first Rose Bowl game a century ago, so my mind and heart both appreciate this full circle moment. The Hall of Fame isn’t just about football. It covers all collegiate sports and is full to bursting with trophies, plagues, photos, banners, videos and all sorts of other memorabilia. There is also a docent in the hall to answer questions. I’m glad I didn’t delay my visit any longer because I was there on the last day of operations before the museum closed for approximately 1−½ years until it reopens in a grander space in this building. It will be interesting to go back and see the new digs because this museum was very small and understated. In fact, the access was incredible. Can’t wait to see the new banner. Long live Nerd Nation!
