Not having lived in a house with a septic tank previously, I had never had the joy of needing to have said tank pumped. But luckily, a quick call to Stanley Environmental took care of the problem. They weren’t all that speedy because we apparently have another entire house under there that had been collecting our waste since the Reagan administration or thereabouts. The difficult thing with the septic tank is that you really have no idea when it was last emptied. And they also had no idea just how they managed to have these massive concrete bunker hatches in there, but at least I didn’t have to empty it. For those of you who are interested in such things, Stanley also takes the leavings from your septic tank and sprays them out on a field and helps create some form of mulch — so like the yard waste you put out on the street, they will then sell your own waste back to you(that you pay them to remove) at a premium. Cool, huh?
