well this place rightfully CLOSED as of sun-12/11/11 get this-we call to make dinner res for this week-having a $ 10($ 20value)coupon to use and get told we don’t ‘need’ a reservation-by the OWNER. This being on thursday-does he have the decency to say come on in before Monday as sun last day? No-So seeing the email that they are closing-without an exact closing date-we call and were told yesterday was last date-well no-one sounded too broke down-you could hear mass party going on in the background like they were celebrating-all the cash they raked in from suckers who prepaid ? have we been scammed?-granted we only out $ 10 bucks-for all who use groupons etc BUYER beware! oh yes when we called and asked the owner why he did not say anything about closing-all he mumbled was something about the economy. at least they could have invited the customers who held pre-paid coupons/vouchers to the party they having tonite! At least would have gone out on a nice note-now will keep eye out for this person in future endeavors! As he speaks of future plans in Seattle, for sure will check if he is the owner of any new establishment before buying a prepaid !!

**Breakfast Review** We had visited their booth at the Stanwood Slow Food Roots Music Festival the week before and were amazed by how delicoius the food was. We were very excited to try out the café for breakfast. The meal started off with warm champagne. Really? The French would be so disappointed. The server should have warned us or offered to put it on ice before opening. I ploped a few ice cubes in from my water and they melted instantly. I never waste so I chugged it down like a watery shot and politely declined the offer for another warm glass. The breakfast menu was small and a little pricey for what you got. I orded the eggel bagel. The bagel was barely toasted and became soggy quickly due to the large out of cream cheese smothered on it. They were way to skimpy on the smoked salmon as well. I was overall underwhelmed by the flavor and presentation. I must say, the pastries looked delicious so I would definitely recommend stopping in and checking them out. I will return to try the wine bistro that is connected to the café. The menu looks delicious and may be more similar to what I ate at the festival. As for breakfast here again? No thanks.

If I could do –1 I would. Never mind we arrived to an empty gallery of chairs and tables, the owner could care a less. His less than on top of it staff rounded up a single cup of coffee that would suit removing paint or rust from iron. The simple order two regular breakfast consisting each of two eggs, sausage, hash browns and toast. Over medium and over easy. Simple, no? Both arrived with toast that managed not to get toasted at all, the eggs both over hard and the sausage still remained pink inside. And the hash browns well someone could not decide on smashed or hashed the watery mass was nice to look at but hubby informed me he was only filling the hole. I sent the mess to the edge of table, both owner and waitress remained in their comas, once said staff arrived with more of the coffee she asked if it was ok! Huh? Really? Untouched, and your confused! Waitress should invest tips in a WSU course for a brain. Owner should be at table trying to resolve his less then ideal breakfast fare. And mind you we did not get charged for one breakfast and the bill for one coffee and one NOT to ordered plate was well over $ 15.00 not even 13 coins charges that much for their crab bennies! Be warned bad breakfast even with the really low bar and expectations of Stanwood. I thought I had already found the worst place for my morning fix at Gerry Andels but the blackbird managed to take first place without me ever even putting a bite into my mouth. My husband simply said honey how do you manage a great breakfast in ten minutes and they screwed this up and it took them twice as long to do it. One eats with eyes first with smell 2 nd and with the mouth 3rd. I just couldn’t get pass the firs

Tried it for a second time; same results. SLOW service. People who arrived after us were served before us. My husband had to get the menus. Maybe we have signs on our foreheads that say to ignore us, but I don’t think so. Food is mediocre. Too bad, Stanwood needs a decent place to eat.

Food was OK. Price was a little high. Not sure I would go back.

This is a great place for both pie and coffee and lunch. I am in love with their lemon bars — sweet, tangy and delish and their berry pies — dense with berries, perfect texture with no goop and not too sweet. I also recently had a chance to have lunch. They make a darn good veggie sandwich with hummus. They also have upstairs seating(which I missed the first few times) that is more intimate and has a nice couch and fireplace. Last, but not least, everything is local, organic and very fresh. Way to go for the sustainability!

Love their breakfasts(and lunches), great coffee(their own roaster) and baked goods. A nice antidote to the typical greasy spoon breakfast joints in town. Only downside: they don’t bake bread, and service could be a bit speedier.

I went here with a friend for brunch and there was no one there to seat us or a sign that said seat yourself. Finally we found a waitress who offered to seat us but also said if we wanted to sit upstairs we could seat ourselves. Fine whatever we go upstairs and find that there is not much seating up there. We ask if we can sit on the patio they say sure but make us move our table out there. The didn’t bring us menus or Waters even we had to eventually go downstairs and remind them we were there. And then again to get our food even though they said they would bring it to us. Food was gross. Left a little tip

I came in for lunch to catch up with an old friend. I had no idea the old restaurant was gone or that the Blackbird had replaced it or I would have been in a long time ago. I love their S.L.O.W. ideology: Sustainable, Local, Organic, Wholesome. That’s how I eat at home and I usually have to sacrifice that every time I go out to eat. They buy their meat from the same local butcher that I do so I felt completely comfortable picking something for my toddler. He had the pasta off the kids’ menu but I had them add some protein a la Silvana Meats. I had the pulled pork sandwich and my friend had the S.L.O.W. burger. It was a perfect little lunch at a great local venue. Service was good, if a little slow with water. I’m more than willing to forgive that in light of their tolerance of my rambunctious toddler. We grabbed a gluten free brownie for me and an oatmeal raisin cookie for wee one on the way out. YUMMY. I will be back very soon.

I went here for breakfast with my parents and we were the only three people in the restaurant. We had to wait too long for coffee and only got one cup during our stay. The food was blah, dry eggs, burnt toast, and when I asked for catsup I could hear her and the other workers making fun of us behind the counter. We didn’t get to try any pastries, so no comment on those. We won’t be going back, and we’re at Starbucks now getting our coffee fix.

WOW, What more is there to say about this place! The service, Phenomenal. The food, even more so. And the atmosphere is very cozy and the fact that there is two levels is a nice touch. I tried out the Blackbird Café the other day and found our server first and foremost to be extremely personable and attentive without being intrusive, a HUGE plus. The greens on my salad were fresh, the dressing was clearly homemade, and the the sandwich was made with the best meat, and the freshest bread. To top it all off, the lemon bar that we tried was one of the best that I’ve ever had. Their desert selection just must be seen to be believed! If in the nearby area, you MUST try this place!

EXCELLENT! Pastries comparable to any we’ve driven all the way to Seattle to enjoy. Nothing comparable to this in all of Snohomish County. A must try. Update: Well, the espresso is not so good… uh, absolutely horrible. And the breakfasts are not worth the money. They would do better to stick with what the do best: baking — so I suggest you do the same — avoid the breakfast fare, buy the pastries and take them somewhere else to get some quality espresso.

I am still licking my lips over a fabulous lunch and FREE desert. We arrived from out of town on the day of Grand Opening. After enjoying an excellent shrimp-avocado-tomato and sprouts sandwich on fresh rye bread… I was sold! Then came the fun… we rolled the dice a won a desert of our choice. That put my review«over the top». I have never tasted a better lemon square, ever! I will return each time we are in town to try something new. Thanks for a job well done. The«Veg-Head» sandwich is excellent. I like to sample the different Mighty Leaf teas. Very nice and clean.
