Pleasantly surprised! Came on a Saturday for lunch. Whoa. Basil Gimlet was delicious and fresh and refreshing. Ordered my little boy some fried chicken strips(that weren’t even on a menu), best chicken I’ve had. Fries were simple and delicious. I had the spinach and artichoke grilled cheese-very good. Had the Cesar salad too-great presentation and taste. Shrimp cocktail was so good for appetizer with different sauces to dip. The whole party I was with very much enjoyed their meal!

Very, very impressed! Such a fun atmosphere! I wasn’t too hungry so I got a half Cesar salad and it was probably the best I’ve ever had. My husband got the chicken and said it was delicious! Also, mixed drinks were awesome. I am picky about a Tom Collins and I had absolutely zero complaints. I would highly recommend for date night!

Wow. Awesome. Drinks and food are created, prepared, and presented by an ARTIST. I just had a blueberry soup that absolutely crushes. Staff are attentive and professional. Everything is prepared right behind the bar, fresh, so grab a cocktail and enjoy yourself. Clean eaters: plenty of options for y’all. Lots of fish!!! The chef will hold anything you don’t want but overall, minimal ingredients and the recipes don’t feature fat/salt in the first place. This place is a great dining experience. My only suggestion is that while the cocktail selection is mature and impressive, the bartenders need a little bit more training on matching proportions and, in the drink specials, pairing compatible flavors. If an owner/manager ever reads this: pay your bartenders to study up. Either buy them books, include an hour of paid time before work to study, or sponsor a trip to a conference or webinar. They have potential and obviously the interest, and it’ll bump the atmosphere to the next level. Overall great place. Thank you Commodore Bob, whoever you are.

Wow! What an unexpected find! We had a small business dinner at Commodore Bob’s at the recommendation of a local that raved about the experience. The food and drinks were spectacular.

We stumbled upon Commodore Bob’s Yacht Club on a night out in Starkville and we were so happy that we did. Although we had already eaten, we decided to stop in for a drink at the bar. The bar overlooks the kitchen, which provides a really interesting and fun atmosphere. The bartender/bar manager was very knowledgeable and one of the bar managers in town who actually went to school to learn the art of bar tending. The drink menu had a good selection of classic cocktails and a few very unique ones. I hate olives, but they had a pickle martini that was a wonderful alternative for me. After sitting there and chatting with the bar tender for a while, I told him the different flavors that I liked and requested a custom drink. He happily obliged and the result was absolutely delicious! If you go in and the bar tender isn’t crazy busy, I highly recommend asking for a custom drink… it’s a fun way to be surprised! Their Moscow Mules made with a house made ginger beer were phenomenal as well. After losing our inhibitions, we ordered a dessert to go with our drinks and I would highly recommend the house made cheesecake! We can’t wait to go back and try out their dinner menu!

Commodore Bob’s is slowly but surely becoming one of my favorite places to eat in Starkville. Every time I go, the food is delicious and the staff is friendly and knowledgable. So glad to have found this place — be sure to eat here, you won’t regret it!

First and foremost, the food was outstanding! Our party of four started with the stuffed portobello and the tomato basil galettes. Full of flavor and was devoured by all of us. Our entrees were the burger and fries, the filet, croque Monsieur, and the special which was lamb. We all thoroughly enjoyed our dishes. The fries with the burger were the best I have EVER had! We then shared the chocolate mousse. Excellent chocolate flavor with a hint of coffee. Now for the downside. The cocktail service was horribly slow. Not sure what the problem was there, but there’s room for improvement in that department. Very limited seating. The timing between dishes was great. We had time to enjoy each course without being rushed or crowded with the next dish. That alone will get me to come back! Highly recommend this new addition to the restaurant family in Starkville. I hope this one does well and is around a long time!

I was really looking forward to eating here and getting a taste of something different in Starkville. The plates are pretty small, which is ok but if you are going to charge $ 27 for a tuna dish(a special none the less), it should be high quality, not frozen low quality fish anyone can pick up at the grocery store. Seriously, if you want to charge higher prices, that’s fine but the quality of food needs to be there and it simply wasn’t. Our waitress was SOOO slow. We ordered dessert which was pre-made and it still took 15 minutes to come out. The excuse was the waitress got tied up with another table. Really!!! There are only 6 other tables in the whole place. Also ordered coffee… never came. Cocktails were pretty good but I’m never going back for a full meal.

I guess we’ll never know. We were told in advance we didn’t need a reservation, but when a member of our party showed up at 6:30 on a Friday night, he was TURNEDAWAY; not offered a wait time, just turned away. In all my years of dining out, I can’t recall EVER being turned away. I sure hope their food is really good, because that’s about all they’ve got going for themselves.

Had high expectations & was not disappointed. Staff was friendly & knowledgeable. Food was great. Stuffed mushroom was amazing & filet was cooked to perfection. Everything is homemade, even the ketchup. Bartender can make great cocktails. Get there early bc very limited seating.

I have been looking forward to trying Commodore Bob’s and I wasn’t disappointed. Saturday’s dinner started with mushroom galettes which was nice, and good for sharing. I had a beer, all of which are bottled, but there’s a reasonably diverse selection. My dining companion had a rosemary and rhubarb vodka martini that was very nice; I had a sip. Entrees were the tenderloin for me and lobster and lump crab mac and cheese for her. The tenderloin was on-point. Cooked to a perfect medium rare with a good sear and great flavor, served on a cauliflower mash with asparagus. Excellent presentation. The mac and cheese entrée had amazing flavor and richness, but as an entrée it doesn’t completely stand on its own. Portion sizes were on the smaller side but are appropriate for the menu. You’ll have room for dessert, although we skipped it this time. If the food was great the atmosphere was equally impressive. The service was attentive but not bothersome, and prices were quite reasonable for an «upscale» dinner and drinks for two in Starkville. The décor is really well-done and adds to the ambiance of this cozy Cotton District restaurant. All combined, it makes Commodore Bob’s stand out as a unique and enjoyable dining experience in this little town.
