The tea is gross, the fish is gross, the hush puppies are okay depending on the day(sometimes greasy, sometimes not). The staff is really friendly and the place is clean and located right next to a park, so that is nice. Never crowded.

I came, I tried, I didn’t like. I had a shrimp po boy, upon which the popcorn shrimp were overcooked. I opted for fries as the side, then ordered an additional side of mac-n-cheese…because mac-n-cheese. The fries tasted like the clam strips at Captain Ds, although I don’t believe that Penn’s sells clam strips. I surmise that means that the cooking fat was/is old. The mac-n-cheese pasta was undercooked and was swimming in a vaguely cheesy sauce that may have been generic, store-brand, reconstituted, condensed cheese soup out of a can. Kraft in a box would have been an improvement. Pepsi fountain drinks, which suck. The only two positive points of my visit were a few of the employees and the bread of the po boy, which was light and fresh. I wish that I could be more encouraging, but Penn’s was a great disappointment.

Excellent food! Very home town feel and awesome wait staff! The shrimp is very good and the hush puppies we’re dynamite! If you’re ever in Starkvegas make sure to stop in and check this place out. It will be a decision you will not soon regret!!! This is a great locally owned small town stop, with the menu to make you keep coming back

I love Penn’s, some of the best grilled catfish around and I’m glad to see this one opened up in Starkville, MS. Great value for the dollar, friendly and concerned staff. I watched a cook throw out a whole bunch of catfish today because it didn’t smell right. You have to order the hush puppies, better than anything your Grandma ever made. Try the chicken skewers if catfish isn’t your thing.
