No frills Southern goodness. Had the rib/chicken/pulled pork platter and 2 sierra nevada IPAs. Great value. Chicken could have been moister but the pulled pork was bang on!!!

If you haven’t eaten at The Little Dooey in Starkville, MS, you have missed out on some of the best food in town! The food is excellent and the team appears to strive toward(and often achieve) great customer service. I love this place! I believe the head chef and manager is Shirley, and when she is in, she meets and greets patrons personally… how she remembers all the names and faces(and previous orders) is amazing. My personal favorite eats are the whole catfish dinner(with corn salad and fried green tomatoes), the pulled pork sandwich(with slaw) and the smoked chicken salad; but I’ve eaten enough from this fantastic menu to know that you can’t go wrong with whatever you select. A gem of an eatery, The Little Dooey in Starkville, MS is one of the best eats in town.

I have always been a life long Little Dooeys fan. I have not eaten there in a while and after today it maybe even longer. The food was terrible and I didn’t even finish my pulled pork plate. I am going to give them the benefit of the doubt and assume since it was a Gameday, they were just slammed with trying to get food out. That was the worst BBQ pulled pork and sauce that I have ever had in my life. I have never had a bad experience with them until today. The sauce tasted like it was mixed with nothing but water and the meat had no smoke or flavor at all. The garlic toast was soggy and the fries weren’t that great either. I hadn’t eaten there in a while since I moved from Starkville and I hated that this was what I got to experience when I finally ate there again. I will still give them another shot, because it is a hometown staple in StarkVegas! Please do better and know that when you have the reputation that you have people expect a great experience every time!

This place on the inside is so nasty. The floors aren’t clean, and the tables are so sticky. The sauces on the table aren’t cleaned. If you order the pulled pork sandwich and something else, then you sandwich will be cold. Went 5 times its ALWAYS cold. If you order it to go then you get it warm. Just a disappointment.

We had a large group in the restaurant for a business lunch recently and had a great experience.

The Little Dooey is fantastic. Everything is southern oriented and you can get bbq made with a spicy or mild sauce. The bbq tastes like it’s made in bacon grease which really makes the bbq the best in town. If you’re a first timer, get a bbq sandwich.

So before I caught my afternoon flight I had about 3 – 4 hours to kill. I passed this place, coming back from Hucks the previous night. I got the beef, pork, and okra. What a disappointment. I don’t know, the beef was bland. Not even brisket, beef and pork were just warm. The okra was the only thing that was hot. I wanted to take a picture of the dead flies on the window seal looking out into the street. Other flys hovering around wondering how those two died. «Hey, Heriberto how did stinky and smelly die?» «Oh when they regurgitate on that terrible beef to eat it» They must cook that garbage on the old smoker that is rusting under the tree out front. I am genuinely disappointed, I should have read Unilocal first. I would have gone somewhere else.

This place has the best food and is representative of good southern bbq. I highly recommend this eatery for the pulled pork sandwiches and fried green tomatoes. They were so good the last time, I had to come back!

Just eh. Catfish was nothing special. Hush puppies were pretty dense, over cooked outside, doughy on the inside. Baked beans had a cold center lump. Wish I had tried the BBQ instead. Friendly atmosphere though. Won’t be a regular. Recommended by several as a place to go.

The Dooey is super crowded most of the time — but it’s fun to wait around sometimes. Atmosphere here is fun — but we often call ahead to order take-out. It’s always ready when we arrive yet it’s always hot!

The quintessential BBQ join in the great town of Starkville aka StakVegas! A favorite stop of not only myself but also anytime ESPN comes to town! My personal fav is the large pork sandwich covered in their signature hot bbq sauce! Their sides are quite awesome as well! My only advice is get their early to avoid the crowd because if you don’t the line will be outside the building and around the corner

I give Lil Dooey 5 stars. They have the best BBQ period! Corn salad is their best side item in my opinion, and the vinegar based sauce that’s on the table is awesome. The service is fine, and we’ve never had an issue. However, the catering is a one star. Two events two years in a row, they were two hours late. The food was still great, but it was a fundraiser and people were angry. Other than the promptness of the catering I will say this is the best restaurant in Starkville!!! And the best BBQ in the south.

We don’t have bbq like this back home here Cali. In the summer of 2012 we were out in Starkville & we asked the locals for some good bbq. This is the place they recommended & boy oh boy was it delish. This was the place to eat at back then. It was finger licking good :)

I had eaten at Little Dooey’s once before and it was really good so I tried it out for a 2nd time passing through. I was very disappointed this time. I ordered the super combo that came with chicken, pork, and ribs. I tried the chicken first thing and it was horrible due to being way over — cooked… very tough. That sort of took the wind out of my sails. The ribs were pretty good but they were over done too. Unlike the chicken though, I could eat it. Pork was over-done as well. There were some good things. The best of all were the 3 sauces they have — a hot and mild ketchup base sauce but the best sauce is the vinegar base. It is quite possibly the best straight up vinegar sauce I’ve ever had. The potato salad wasn’t bad but not anything special. It tasted like some I’ve had from Walmart and it did have celery in it(I hate celery). Beans were good and had a sweet taste to them. Sweet tea was perfect. It seems like to me Little Dooey struggles with consistency. I would have given it a strong review after the first time I ate here. It wasn’t horrible this time except for the chicken and because of that, I paid too much. The sauces are the strong point and the service was very helpful.

Ate here … don’t know what the big fuss is all about. The food is edible and that is as far as I will go with my review.

The best BBQ that I’ve had in awhile! Clean for a BBQ place, good prices and nice people. I only wish it wasn’t an order at the counter kind of place.

As a big college football fan I visit Mississippi State once every three or so years. My second to last visit(against Kentucky on a Thursday night in late October) the women next to me explained I haven’t experienced Starkville without a visit to Little Dooey. She claimed it was the best BBQ in town, by a mile. A month later I returned for my 1st Egg Bowl and fortunately Little Dooey was open on Thanksgiving. We got there right around 11 when they opened and found the place empty as fans were just arriving. Meanwhile, that wasn’t a reflection of the food, which was darn good. I’d classify Little Dooey as a hole in the wall that’s affordable, tasty and work a visit. My cousin tried the ribs and the meat literally fell off the bone as he picked it up. Our pulled pork was well cooked as was the pulled chicken. My favorite was the bread which isn’t healthy but tastes incredible! Is there sauce good? I brought home a half dozen of each(to CA) and many of my friends like it even better than Dreamland, Jim N Nick’s, etc. Next time in Starkville you can’t go wrong with a quick, easy stop at Little Dooey.

This was noted as the best BBQ in Starkville. So we went to check it out — I ordered the super combo(¼ rib, ¼ chicken, pulled pork, with sides of waffle fries and corn on the cob), fried pickles, a steak brisket sandwich(slaw on the side), sweet tea, and side of mac & cheese. The ¼ rib and ¼ chicken weren’t too flavorful… the rotisserie chicken at Costco was even better. They rely heavily on the BBQ sauce(which is good) to make it taste better. Waffle fries were standard, corn on the cob wasn’t sweet, nor was it salted — I think people put on their own butter & salt to flavor. Brisket sandwich… without the BBQ sauce, dry, with, okay, but nothing like the moist brisket at Hill Country. Pulled pork was quite good, though. Better get a combo of that with mac & cheese next time all on its own. Fried pickles — better than Smashburger’s just out of the habit of being less salty, and a healthy amount for $ 4. Sweet tea wasn’t as sweet as many others I’ve had, so that was nice. And the mac and cheese wasn’t grainy but smooth and tasty, though very small, as a side. Texas toast was an incidental, but won’t rank it since it got soggy on the drive home. Better to eat in-person, I think!

Again, another place I stopped in back in June 2012 and just now getting to the review… Don’t tell anyone but I’m feeling like a bad Elite… keep that under your hat though! I REALLYLIKED this joint… looks like it’s in a converted house, it’s tiny and cramped and a divey sort of interior and I freakin’ LOVED the ambience… perfect for a BBQ joint… from standing in line at the front door to order at the counter from the menu on the wall above the cashier’s head to grabbing my own beer from the cooler once I had paid to stumbling around this nook and cranny interior to find a seat… The experience was GREAT! It’s been so long since I ate there I can’t remember what I ordered but I know it was good cause if it wasn’t then I would have a vivid recall of that… If you’re looking for some BBQ or catfish give this place a stop in… You gonna like it!!!
