Big Hollow B&B delivers an exceptional value for the money with a quality of attention and features placing it in the top of its class for lodging in private homes. Surrounded by woods in a near-north suburb of State College, Pennsylvania called Bellefonte, this is an overnight traveler’s dream place. Bob and Marge built the home around 2007 for the express purpose of serving as a B&B; with three bedrooms around an oversized living room, dining room and kitchen combined. Here are a few of the stand-out features: A phone call letting you know when your room becomes available on the day of your arrival. A free bottle of wine in the lounge for before or after dinner. Your own personal button code for coming home after hours. Breakfast as early as you want, home cooked in front of you, and self-serve pod-style coffee at any time. Heated towel racks. Large bottles of shampoo, conditioner and body wash in a modern bathroom that — like the rest of the residence — is immaculately clean. Chocolate on your pillow, and a comfortable bed.(The best room is upstairs.) Plush bathrobes, just like in a major hotel. Information on where the hosts’ bedroom is located, in case you need them in the middle of the night. Homeowners who actually sit down with you at the breakfast table and engage in conversation(although we were the only guests). Easy access to the State College campus. A fabulous variety of flowers in the garden. Fountains and a hummingbird feeder, with binoculars by the breakfast table so you may observe them while you eat. This is the kind of voyage-to-nowhere place where you would go to just to be pampered or to get away. It is popular, apparently, for graduation and football games. In comparison to the national average — at least in my experience — of less attractive and attentive B&B accommodations, you owe it to yourself to give Big Hollow a try.
