Great ice cream — lots of flavors — not quite as good as the Penn State creamery but still very good.

Great ice cream. Ridiculously cheap prices for its quality and quantity. I heard great things about it but actually eating this creamy delight My expectations were met. The place may be dated and the service is somewhat spotty but So long as I have ice cream in my hands I’m pretty darn content. I’m really eager to try their milk and cheese products next time around.

Cutest little dairy farm that sells THE BEST ice cream, eggs, milk, and cheese. If you bring back the milk bottles, then you can buy the milk at a cheaper price. Ice cream is made in the house and they have so many different flavors to choose from. It’s great quality products at very reasonable prices!
What makes dairy products so good, is that they’re fresh from the farm. Those (not so) little cows are literally right behind the store. You can’t get much fresher than that.

Every bit as good as the Creamery, without the lines. If you go for ice cream and frozen yogurt, the only downside is that they do not have dry ice for transporting.
Also has a small (25 – 30 seat) restaurant that serves breakfast and sandwiches.
I try to at least stop for a cone every time in town. You should as well.

One of my favorite places to stop with friends on the way back into town or after climbing at the Y. So relaxing to sit outside at one of the picnic tables and enjoy ice cream on summer warm nights. The ice cream is tasty; portions are generous; prices are affordable. They’re ice cream sandwiches are amazing!!!

Good ice cream cannot say it’s the best ever. Service ok but sitting area is dated. Cute worth the visit and not expensive.

I’m a regular customer, who thinks this place is a bliss to State College. That being said, I love every flavor of the ice cream, they are all excellent, and this is a place I’ll probably miss the most when I leave the town after my studies.
Now one particular aspect that mars my great experience at Meyer’s is some of the attitude of the high school employees. The service significantly varies according to the person you deal with. All I’m expecting is not even a smile but a simple «hi.» It would also be great if they could keep some consistency regarding the portion of ice cream. Last time I visited, mine was a bit above the dish level with a hole inside, and half of it melting scooped from the side of the vessel… sad sad ice cream :(
I do hope for an improvement on this part of the business. But other than that, the place is great and will continue to be.

This ice cream tasted good, but I do not think that it is better than other brands of ice cream that you can buy elsewhere. I did appreciate that the business has a large indoor seating area where people can sit and eat.

I am from NYC, and every time I come to SC to see family a stop at Meyer Dairy is a MUST. There is no place in the city that compares too Meyer’s.
If you want pure, fresh, natural ice cream this is the place. I have been coming here for over 28 yrs, and have never been disappointed

Ice cream is the first counter you see when you walk in.
About a dozen flavors made with fresh Pennsylvania milk.
We ordered the lemon curd, chocolate chip brownie, maple walnut, butter pecan and white house.
All the flavors were delicious! My favorite was the white house– it had cherries with vanilla ice cream.
And the medium was two scoops the size of softballs.
If you desire milk for your homemade yogurt or ice cream, you can buy a gallon of it on the counter to your right (as you walk in). Bring your glass bottle for returns and get a discount on your gallon.
If you want a sit down meal, there is a small dining area to your left.

Fantastic ice cream right on the road from Penns Valley to State College. Milk so fresh you can tasted it in the ice cream. I ordered a sugar cone with a scoop of maple walnut and a scoop of chocolate chip brownie and it was like a gigantic sunday by the time they were done. We were visiting a friend and she said it was her favorite ice cream place. Great place to just hang out and talk.

Great Ice cream (better than the famous Berkey’s in my opinion) and good selection of flavors. Definitely recommend

Ice cream was amazing. The Oreo one is really good. Super cold and creamy, not at all melty. Recommend this place. It was really good with lots of parking and seating.

Until I started getting milk here, I honestly didn’t know that any milk ever tastes better than other milk. This does, though. It’s so fresh it actually tastes GOOD. I also love that their glass bottles are reusable– less waste! If you’re wondering how fresh the milk is, just stand in the parking lot and wait for the wind to shift. At some point you’ll be able to smell the cows.
The milk end of this business is without doubt five stars. The ice cream, less so. I think it really lacks flavor. Service is less than ideal, too. I used to like to get a triple chocolate shake (chocolate milk, chocolate ice cream, chocolate syrup), but it must be annoying to make because whenever I’ve ordered it the staff behind the counter acted irritated and loudly tried to pawn my order off on each other– while I was standing there. Sure doesn’t make me feel too comfortable.
So I don’t do the ice cream side anymore. But I only buy milk elsewhere in a real emergency. It’s worth the trip, I swear.

Meyer’s Dairy is, more or less, the locals ice cream shop. Berkey Creamery is the pop star choice. There truly is a reason for that. But, honestly, the ice cream is pretty close.
At the Creamery, you will wait in line for upwards of 40 minutes on a busy day. Sometimes longer. All the while you are sweating out how much your parking is going to cost or worried about the 15 minute parking spot your vehicle occupies.
At Meyers, private lot. Stay as long as you like. No pay for parking. Relaxed atmosphere. You may have to wait for 20 minutes on a busy day.
The Creamery gives you a nostalgic Penn State student/​alumni/​fan experience. Not really glitsy but part of the cultural necessities of Penn State. You must go there.
For this reason, Meyer’s is a good option after an event or shopping trip for many locals and nearly locals. It is convenient to those that live south of SC and a favorite of many as an «on the way home» stop.
With the Creamery, you have to park in a garage or far away. Then you have to walk to it. You usually have to pay something to get there.
The ice cream choices at Berkey are often exotic and experimental. They are fun.
The ice cream at Meyer’s is usual a typical array of standard stuff. Occasionally they will throw something new in there.
The taste of both places is pretty even. I may give an edge to The Creamery but locals will debate this for hours.
There are picnic tables outside for the Spring and Summer. There is a small cafeteria set up and restaraunt inside.
Meyer’s does serve burgers and other grill food. Most of which are farm fresh.
Prices are reasonable. Service is adequate. Good enough.
But do you really come here for burgers or service? I don’t know many that do. It’s all about ice cream.
So bottom line, Meyer’s has its perks. It’s one of those local gems you will hear about from locals but not really know about otherwise. It is slightly outside town right on the edge of State College and Boalsburg.
If you have a little time on your visit to State College, try Meyer’s. I can’t imagine anyone not enjoying their ice cream.

The girl at the counter was not friendly. After she said, «Can I help you?» we knew she couldn’t be bothered. We left.
Her coworkers knew that she was being rude and laughed when we walked out. Hopefully she will be more aware of her poor customer service.

Meyer Dairy Store has that old dairy store feel, and is a great place to stop with the family for a treat. They still use the old glass milk jugs that can be brought back in for a deposit. The ice cream has that fresh homemade taste, and there are many flavors to choose from. You can enjoy your cone inside in the dining area or you can take it outside, and eat it at the many picnic tables that overlook the Meyer family farm. This is a really great place to support. I hope they are around for another 50 plus years, and continue to keep the old charm that keeps everyone coming back.

This is the BEST icecream I have ever had.
Ever.
I mean — ever, ever.

Period!
And I’m not exaggerating! I mean, this icecream was so good that I risked my girlish figure and a bout with eczema to eat my entire (and very generous!) scoop of cookies-​n-​crème! It was the freshest, creamiest, most delicious bite on a spoon I’ve ever had. I’m not sure how often I will get back to State College, but trust and believe that when I do, I will be making a stop to Meyer Dairy Store. And it doesn’t matter if there’s two feet of snow on the ground — I will still take one for the team and go for another heaping scoop of this icecream which warms your soul and melts in your mouth!

This review is purely about the Ice Cream. I haven’t sampled anything else from Meyer Dairy so I can’t comment.
The draw of this place is obviously that they make their own ice cream using their own fresh milk. That doesn’t necessarily mean they make good ice cream, just that’s it’s fresh. I found the taste to be a bit lacking and the flavors muted. The servings are gigantic and for under $ 3 I got two massive scoops in a cone which is a great deal. I tried the butter crunch and there wasn’t a distinctive taste or anything crunch, perhaps I just got a bad sample. On the actual cone I got the chocolate peanut butter which didn’t particularly taste like either and I also get the peanut butter oreo flavor which I really liked. The peanut butter was very soft and creamy however the oreo was harder and somewhat icy. Overall I liked what I got and would go back, but it’s not the best ice cream I’ve had.

It’s the classic town rivalry. Many adore Meyer Dairy versus the Creamery and vice versa. As a townie and one who has been going to Meyer Dairy since I was a tiny tot I do prefer the Creamery however that doesn’t mean I dislike good old Meyers.
This store is family owned and so local that the milk and ice cream is literally produced daily in the back of the store. It is a unique product to the region and I would imagine to most people who don’t live around dairy farms.
As far as the milk, I can no longer drink it due to health reasons but it is always fresh without the nasty hormones injected into cows and preservatives added to the milk. It’s good old fashioned milk served in reusable milk bottles.
As for the ice cream, it is made fresh often and actually has less fat than most ice cream brands. Sometimes the ice cream will be melty which actually has to do with how much sugar the flavor has so ask for and extra dish for your cone just in case! There are a wide variety if flavors and I was surprised to see the new peanut butter Oreo flavor. This place never changes!
Yes you will be waited on by a bunch of teenagers… I was one of those teenagers once and I sympathize. It’s not always easy dealing with customers out the door or being complained to about being out of a flavor. You get every type of customer here and some of them aren’t exactly well mannered and easy to deal with.
Also, one thing that is totally underrated here are the burgers. The meat here is locally butchered and really tasty!
My two complaints are that they use styrofoam bowls and cups. I hate putting that junk in the landfill. I also think this place needs a serious renovation. I don’t need to lick a cone in the lap of luxury but this place hasn’t been updated since it first opened!
