I actually really enjoyed Whiskers. We stopped in on Saturday night for some drinks and appetizers. It was a lot of fun. They played good music, the interior was gorgeous, and the food was surprisingly delicious. We shared the steak nachos and sweet potato fries. Some of the best sweet potato fries I’ve ever had and came with a great sriracha dipping sauce. The nachos were almost like a cheese steak nacho, lettuce, mushroom, steak, jalapeño, sriracha sour cream, and cheese. So good! Relaxed atmosphere, great place to sit and converse. I see in other reviews that people think it’s expensive. I’d love to know where they’ve found an inexpensive hotel bar? Pretty standard pricing for this caliber of hotel… atleast I thought.

The food here is severely under-rated! This is 4 star food! We have had drinks here many times but never ate here until Graduation weekend. The food was fantastic. Korean wings were so tasty that I can’t wait to go back and order them as an entrée! It was served w/house made blue cheese and celery. The Gemellis pretzel was great. Served with stone ground mustard and white cheddar cheese sauce(like Mac/cheese sauce thick!). Friend ordered the NLI Burger and loved it. I ordered the portabella mushroom sandwich. This is probably one of the top 10 best sandwiches I’ve ever eaten. Served w/melted mozz, sautéed red onions, spring mix and balsamic. The fries were boardwalk quality hand cut fries. Crispy and yummy. This gets 4 stars, but probably the best bar food review I’ve written.

Not cheap but good place to eat if you are staying at the inn. Food has been really good. Service ok. Dessert really good. Steak was good. Burger was good. Closes early if you want to drink late.

Atmosphere is great, food good but wine poor is bad. They switched to new glasses and the pour is ridiculously bad especially given the price. If you want a nightcap or cocktail then search elsewhere

I’ve been trapped at worse hotel bars. Decent beer selection and the bartender was cool. Will go back again

Reasonably good. I tend to stick to items that are likely on the full restaurant menu. Free popcorn a bonus.

This place is so typical of the types of places one sees in nice hotels. They confuse high prices for quality. They can be as mediocre as they want because the hotel guests are a captive audience. I couldn’t imagine a local going to the place, which is all one needs to know. I ordered the wings to go. Big mistake, for if I ate them there I could have returned them. They took a long time to come out, yet they were so undercooked that they were inedible. I gave two stars instead of one because the bartender was professional. Avoid for food at all costs. The hotel is within a short walk to great places, and the hotel shuttle will take you anywhere.

Have been to Whiskers numerous times. Mostly for a night cap and occasionally for dinner when staying at the Nittany Lion Inn. Decided tonight to grab a late night dinner after checking in. Ordered the porterhouse steak and got one of the worst slabs of meat I’ve ever gotten. What was weird, was the waitress seemed to assume it wasn’t good before I even had taken a bite. Not sure what this steak’s lifespan had been, but was not a spectacular one. Stick to the beer and bar food.

This is a dependable pub-style hotel restaurant that faces the interior courtyard of the Nittany Lion Inn. The food, predominantly sandwiches is good, as is the beer selection. The bottomless baskets of popcorn are a nice accompaniment, as the food occasionally takes a while to be delivered. The décor is modest and there are plenty of flat panels with varying sports events. It’s especially convenient if a hotel guest or you’re already on-campus, but I’d not make a special trip.

Whiskers, with its new menu and new beer glasses have hit a new high. the 12 oz pint glasses(I believe) with a generous head at $ 6 help keep the patrons happy but not too happy until the bill comes — as in, I can’t believe I drank 6 pints there!(you didn’t, that was under 3). The free popcorn(bottomless baskets) are the highlight of the place. If you just have a beer(not two) and popcorn, it’s a good deal. $ 5 fries is not, and $ 15 for a bowl of vegan stew is not. The football weekend menu(limited because the alumni have trouble making decisions, like at the creamery), gives unlimited choice of 4 appetisers and about 8 sandwiches and more vegan choices than I’ve ordered in my life. They will validate tickets from the nearby garage at the hotel front desk, a useful dodge if you are parked there. Bike parking is between the hotel and the garage in the ‘front’. If I’ve got nowhere else to go, it’s on campus. And it helps me to sleep at night knowing that they have found another way for visitors to give back to the university. Perhaps I should try the wine while I’m there, it might be better value.

High ceilings and free popcorn await you at Whiskers. You’ll enjoy a timely place and decent service. I would highly recommend sitting outside, assuming you don’t need to wear a jacket to survive.

Not your typical sterile hotel restaurant. My colleagues and I picked this not for the cute name but because there was a vegan menu, and two of us ordered from it. Loved my chickpea kale stew, very hearty with a buttery-tasting creamy cashew broth. My colleague liked her falafel plate with a quinoa pilaf and also raved about the beet burger she has had in the past. The fish and chips was HUGE and came on a mountain of fries. Lots of gorgeous wood trim, an atrium, flowing vines, and light make this a comfy spot, and the bar in the middle looks welcoming too. I would love to go again. Staff said the veg items are popular and not just with vegans. Here is the rest of the vegan menu. * Vegan Sliders(black bean, amaranth, and falafel) * Quarter Pound Beet Burger(beets, brown rice, and lentils) * Curried Lentils with Seitan Price range is $ 8 – 15. No hummus, boring salad, or roasted veggie plate to be seen! Nicely done!

I only came here for bloody mary’s at the bar, but the service was excellent and the bloody’s were pretty good. Plus, I mean– they have bacon vodka here. Any place that serves bacon vodka has a special place in my heart.

Another State College example of a pub that completely screws up pub grub. The bar itself is nice and the bartenders are great. The food was passable and more than expensive for what you get. Just go for the drinks…

The American burger was awesome. Two grilled cheese sandwiches for buns. Bacon, BBQ sauce, and a ½ pound burger. Served with fries for $ 12 before tax/tip.

The whole place was pretty«meh.» The only real compliment I heard was that the pre-fab fries were good. A lot of the dishes were heavy on the pasta/greens, and really skimpted on the vegetables or fruit. The room is pretty, but the service was mediocre at best. They were kind of helpful, but really lacked knowledge on the make-up of the dishes. Wiskers didn’t drive me away from Penn State, but it’s sure not a draw.

Even sitting at the bar(which was relatively empty), the service lacked promptness or energy. The food was weak too. Glorified Costco food simply cooked FOR you. I know, I know. What do I expect from a hotel restaurant/bar in a college town on a college campus, but COMEON!!!
