I’m complete heartsick to update my experience at island grocery. It’s been two weeks or so since my last visit and I’m missing the chow. A couple of Sundays ago I wandered in around 2 in the afternoon and they were as busy as I’ve seen them. Did a bit of shopping and naturally didn’t want to miss out on the days offerings of hot prepared food so I went over to the counter and waited my turn. There were two people ahead of me. No big deal. My turn came and an Indian man came behind me and was looking at what was being offered. The guy behind the counter very overtly ignored me and took the guy behind me. I was actually shocked a bit but let it go. But I did pay attention as they mark the price of each dish on the lid with a marker. Big tin of fried rice which was $ 5 two months ago was marked at $ 6.49 on the lid of the guy he was taking care of. Mine, exactly the same, was marked $ 6.99. What’s the big deal over 50 cents you might ask. It’s not the money. Reading between the lines could either be screw you mr customer or you’re dumb mr customer. Either way it definitely stung. I always vote with my pocket and if someplace doesn’t treat me decently I go somewhere else to spend my dollars. But I will admit that I miss the food. Heavy sigh…

Great service, great people, delicious food. I have tasted just about every dish they serve here, and have been very impressed with the quality and taste. The chef is very accomodating to special requests, and the customer service and friendliness of the staff makes you feel at home. I am hooked, and will continue to order regularly from this place. …Oh, not to mention, the store has great prices on fresh fish and meat, butchered to order, and just about every spice and product you can think of to make your own favorite Indian dish at home. :)

Ordered food one day at work and I didn’t have anyone to pick up the food and I wanted to order. So the lady at Island Grocery called me back and told me she had someone who could deliver straight to my job. She was so nice and very helpful and answered any questions I had regarding the different types of food they made. They delivered to my job, Fast delivery and the food tasted great!!! Affordable pricing for delicious food and great customer service. Loved it, I totally recommend. Thank you

This is the gem of Staten Island for any sorts of South Asian foods. –the store itself moved to Manor Road/Victory Blvd right beside Met supermarket, so the convenience and the huge parking lot is a PLUS. –the aisles are super clean –the butcher/fishmonger in the back is extremely helpful and knowledgable and will actually grind the product for you if you ask –LOTS of spices and LOTS of ingredients And today(12.15.2015) they began providing cooked take away meals, so fresh and So delicious.(The actual cook is in the store replenishing the dishes. *my husband and I tried the chicken curry, potato curry, with white aromatic rice and a side of dal, it was amazing. Now when he have a hankering for Indian food, we don’t have to go far.(The prices are very very reasonable) This store has never disappointed in the past 13yrs we’ve been patronizing! And the owner will stop and speak with you, any concerns, questions or just to chit chat with loyal customers. Great establishment

This place is in a very convenient location for me. They also have pretty good recommendations like grandmas hot lime pickle. Now they always remember me when I come in because that’s pretty much what I come there for. I also love that they have a great range of spices, in addition to other items like desi yogurt and green papaya. Now I can make papaya salad whenever I want!

I’ve been trying to cook more indian food lately. Whenever I need spices, this is my go-to shop. Good prices, friendly and helpful staff and a pretty good selection of products for Staten Island. Good place to stock up on onions and ginger also, with prices lower than most supermarkets. Same goes for their meats. Wide selection of indian breads also. New to indian cooking? Just talk to the clerks and they’ll point you in the right direction. The only minus is for the parking lot — gets pretty congested.

This place has almost everything, a tad bit cramped but u can get all your spices, even fresh curry leaves. You must try their ready to eat packets, a ton of variety and only $ 2 bucks. Very nice people and good service. It’s also a great place to get fresh halal meat and they also carry fresh fish.

If you’re on the lookout for Indian specialty items(or Pakistani, Sri Lankan, Malaysian, etc food products), this is a pretty decent place to look. Plus the music is conducive to belly dancing through the aisles.
