Let me start off this review by stating, «I am Sri Lankan.» As a Sri Lankan, I was thrilled to discover Lanka Grocery for all my Sri Lankan grocery needs. If you have ever tasted Sri Lankan food, you know that the spices are intense and aromatic and make the food explode with flavor. Lanka Grocery has all the spices and food items that you need to cook up a delicious Sri Lankan meal. I was able to find things that I eat in Sri Lanka all the time, which is fantastic. The prices are very reasonable as well. If you need help, be sure to ask the manager because he is very friendly and will do his best to explain what you are buying. Enjoy!

Charming little grocery, just over an uphill mile from the Staten Island ferry, on a section of Victory Blvd with a few Sri Lankan food destinations. The accommodating shopkeeper answered my questions about stringhoppers, curry powders, jaggery(kithul, in my case), vegetables, and frozen convenience foods. They seemed to have every little necessity and nicety that I could think of, from dried fish to treacle, amberella chutney(my favorite) to steamed rice powders. Very pleasant! Notes: Credit card minimum was $ 10 when I visited. The Sri Lankan new year holiday is observed some time around April 12 – 15, and I’m not sure of this grocery’s schedule/hours, so you may want to call ahead.

The largest variety of Sri Lankan groceries from all the markets in the Sri Lankan enclave on Staten Island. Dry grocery items as well as fresh vegetables like banana blossoms. You can also purchase traditional clay pots here.
