Libraries aren’t just for reading books anymore.
While libraries still offer various selections of books to leisurely read or for research. The library has so much hidden potential. They have magazines, different newspapers and DVD’s or CD’s to rent out, computers for your use, tutoring options and my favorite, lots of free events, classes and programs!
Having a NYPL in New Dorp is such a privilege and has opened many doors for me throughout the years. My only hope is that people utilize the library more often. Put down your phones and tablets and check out what they have to offer.

Staten Island, NY
Even though this isn’t my local branch, this is my favorite library on the borough of Staten Island, bar none. In addition to a wide selection of books-​including a phenomenal science section-​the staff working here is incredibly efficient. There’s also a surprisingly good selection of DVDs on offer, for those of you on a constrained entertainment budget. Definitely worth visiting if you’re in the neighborhood.
