This five stars is for two people and two people only. Annette at 800 castleton clinic and Vivian desk at the hospitals physical therapy unit who both went out of their way to get me an emergency appointment today for a referral for physical therapy. I was in so much pain that I couldn’t sit or bend. I wish I could say the same for the nurse (Marianne) there who was cold as hell and had zero care or compassion. If I had to give that nurse a review I’d give her a minus 12. Why get into healthcare when you don’t care… disturbing.
In anycase, I am extremely grateful for Annette and Vivian’s assistance today

I had my first baby in Richmond U hospital, i must say i was a very pleased i picked this hospital over Staten I University. My doctor was awsome the nurses in maternity were great especially the night shift crew. Cannot say enough good things about them. I had a private suite which was worth it, being there 3 days with a c section. The suites in the other hospital needed major updating and the rooms were depressing. Richmond had nicer rooms, the staff was helpful, they were very accomidating to my needs. Hospital pediatrician was great and the lactation consultant was super knowledgeable. The hospital food was also pretty good. My friend also deliverd couple months before me and said it was a good hospital. Im glad i made the choice to come here. Sometimes reading negative reviews can deter you, but everyones experience is always a little different.

I must say that I had a great experience at this hospital I went yesterday for my daughter and for myself and they treated us very nicely and they were very professional and we were also seen by attendings not residence and I must say that they were nicer than then Staten Island University Hospital… ER STAFF

My wife delivered out first baby here on 11/​22/​2015. The doctor and nurses gets 5 out of 5. They were very supportive and knew what they were doing. For the hospital I can’t say any good things, below is my experience
1) While my wife is in the labor room, laying there in pain, me sitting in the chair… I look down and see a COCKROACH walking by me! I didn’t step on it, I watch it slowly crawl up the wall and showed it to my wife! Then I took a plastic cup and caught the cockroach and threw it in the garbage.
2) Had to deal with un-​necessary issues with insurance coverage. Because the doctor didn’t speak with the «floor manager» who was supposed to the insurance and payment department, which didn’t happen. I was told I am likely going to have to pay $ 3000 out of pocket. The lady at the payment department at the hospital could not find the «floor manager» and when I told her let me go try to find that person, she said I be going home in 5min. I was left blind. I hope no one will go through anything like that, as you should be spending time with the new born and supporting the new mom, I was having a head ache trying to deal with this situation, due to hospital staff miscommunication.
3) Now it’s about 2 week after delivery, we get the birth certificate and it have the WRONG NAME of the doctor. Out doctor was Veerendra Durgam, who I recommend. In the birth certificate they put his son’s name! when we called the hospital the lady on the phone laughed and asked «Do you really want to change the name?»…Seriously.WTF!!! My wife want the name of the doctor that delivered the baby not some guy we never even seen before. Very unprofessional. So now we have to go back to hospital to get this fixed.
4) I wanted a private room for me, wife and the new born. I told them this ahead, but they said I cant book it ahead but have to wait till the baby is delivered then go book the room. I don’t understand why I couldn’t do this ahead. I got the room anyway, but if your someone deliver on a busy day, I can see you may have to fight other fathers to get a private room!
Would i choose this hospital again? If have a choice HELL NO. But if my wife get pregnant again, i am sure she would want to keep the same doctor. So, i may not have an option but to go to this shit hole again.
I am still waiting on the final bill from them to see what happened. Let see.
**UPDATE**
So now my baby is 3 months old, after going there twice and applying for an other birth certificate to update the doc’s name… the new certificate came in last week. In the new one they fixed the doctors name and the f*ed up the MOTHERS NAME!!! I have no idea WTF these people are doing. They had the mothers name correct in the first one, all we needed to do was fix the doc’s name… I am getting a feeling they just doing this on purpose to fu*k with people…
Now i am sitting here shaking my head… I got to go through this all over again.
Anyone going with this hospital for delivery, I hope your experience would be different than mine. Good luck.

Horrible experience in the ER. 9 hours in total, 8.5 hours of which was just waiting for a doctor. Simply put, this hospital does not have enough doctors in the ER. Don’t come here!

Very professional staff. Good residents and attending a are thoughtful. Had a broken bone that was evaluated in the ER. Ed physician was thoughtful and very quick. Had it fixed by the next day b

This hospital used to be great years ago the staff was friendly and efficient. Now, not only is the staff rude and incompetent; they’re practically aggressive and uneducated. I’m hoping that it will have a clear out of personnel and restoration to acceptable standards with the new owners being NYU, however for now DO NOT go there it literally is dangerous.

I had my son here in 2012. Labor and delivery was great, and the maternity/​newborn nurses and staff were great. I would always give birth at this hospital over SIUH.
Fast forward…
Idk, maybe over this past summer at some point. I brought my now two year old baby to the ER because he had a fever that wasn’t going down with meds. I walk in, with a woman behind me who is clearly not in a good state, off balance, looks like she’s in pain. At first I’m happy because it’s empty. Then I’m standing there and I realize, it’s REALLY empty. No security guard posted as usual, NO nurses, doctors, or staff to greet you. Finally after waiting about 5 minutes sitting across from this poor woman, I let myself in the back and yelled out for a staff member. I asked,“is anyone working?” She replied, «yeah we’re a little busy.» Okay. So then I was really mad and I may have explained to the nurse that they should be able to handle more than one emergency at a time. I asked her, «what if someone walked in with chest pains or shortness of breath? There’s no one up here, someone could be lying dead on your floor and you’d never know!» I’m not wrong. What ED do you know that is so stupid as to not have a single person up front to see who’s coming in?
I would only ever go here for the ED because it’s closer than SIUH, but if ever admitted (besides childbirth), I’d transfer somewhere else. Definitely.
PS– the pediatric doctor told me my son’s 104 fever was nothing to worry about, and it’s only at 105 when we should worry.
Yeah. 2 stars because I like the maternity.

I went to the emergency room because of a gallbladder attack. I was admitted quickly. The ER staff were courteous and kind. After tests including an ultrasound, I was diagnosed with gallstones and inflammation of the gallbladder, and was given a referral to one of the surgeons on staff to arrange surgery.
A few days later, that surgeon, without reviewing the records of the ER visit and without performing any physical exam, told me that there was likely nothing wrong with my gallbladder, said he could tell «just by looking at me» that I had diabetes and a fatty liver, and began a hard-​sell pitch for weight loss surgery (a side business he does in addition to Botox injections). I got out of there as fast as I could and went to file a complaint with the hospital. But, since it happened in the surgeon’s private office and not on hospital property, hospital staff said there was nothing they could do. My gallbladder was removed several weeks later by a competent surgeon and staff at Weill Cornell.
If this surgeon (who has been disciplined multiple times for ethics issues by the state medical board) is an example of the kind of surgeon patients are expected to place their trust in, this hospital needs to raise their standards.

This place shouldn’t even be called a hospital but a hell hole not fit to even treat animals. The staff is incompetent, rude and don’t give a shit about anything but themselves. The place is old and outdated and so is the medical equipment. It’s no wonder this place hasn’t been shut down. Avoid this place like the plague.

Poor cafeteria service. The food was frozen and reheated. It was gross. I spoke to a manager or human resource lady named «Yelena «She told me that if I wanted better food and service, then to go a different place to eat. I was shocked when I heard this and sent a letter to the head office to file a complaint.

At the emergency room with my son. I hope his toe is not fractured :(our wait was not long. We were taken to the pediatric area very quickly.

I’ve been here several times for non emergency to semi. I was never hear for anything life threatening but recently to visit family in labor and delivery.
The hospital is old and ugly, formerly known as st. Vincent’s, when it became Richmond university medical center (r.u.m.) they left everything the same.
It needs a major overhaul from the e. r and they out. Definitely needs to be updated, old equipment, furniture, paint and so on and so fourth.
I visited family in the labor and delivery and i was told the missing staff was pretty good. As she went to a private room ($$) the nursing staff was excellent with around the clock care. There very kind, professional and caring. The maternity ward is ok, but i highly recommend getting a private room, well worth the price and peace of mind. Oh and they are one of the best high risk hospitals for birth.
Parking could be a challenge, muni meters all around. They also have valet parking and lot parking they takes tokens

I’ve been to Richmond University numerous times over the years (even when it was St. Vincent’s) for various reasons ranging from ridiculous to a surgery. E. R times can be long, but that’s expected and pretty much universal. Their ER could use a massive overhaul as far as comfort and décor. Now, I’m not expecting plush comfort but the chairs are old, the floors are old, the walls could use a splash of paint, etc. Their ORs and lobby are nice though. I’ve never felt that I wasn’t in excellent care. I also believe their NICU is one of the best, as well as a great place to go for delivery.
