What a great practice — reception is organized, friendly, and fast.
Everybody is kind and happy to be there. They truly love animals.
Thank you so much for the wonderful care that my dog receiving.
I will recommend Richmond Valley Veterinary Practice to anyone who have pets.

I have been to many Vets on Staten Island and this is the best one in my opinion. Most Vets only care about running up your bill and taking all your money. Richmond Valley Vet really care’s about their patients are very likable and honest. The receptionist staff can be snarky but that’s everywhere.

Awesome place. The doctors are top notch, and go out of their way to keep the animals comfortable. The only reason I didn’t give 5 stars is because the receptionists are a bit rude– always seems like they are in a bad mood.

Personal pros:
Appointments are easy to make (Sometimes you can make it the same day)
Emergency calls ²⁴⁄₇ for patients are extremely helpful and lifesaving
Vets are experienced and take their time with you during appointments
Place is generally very clean
Dr Powell is one of the best there (I realize this will make my wait longer by suggesting him)
Did I mention they are so personable, so caring and so patient?
They are not money hungry and help when they can
Personal cons:
Sometimes the wait… plenty of dogs + no seats = a long wait
With that, dog hair is overwhelming at times but I have seen them clean during the day
General visits can sometimes come very expensive but again, they will not do unnecessary tests.

I currently have five dogs as members of my family. My dogs are not only the loves of my life but they’re also instrumental in saving lives. I have worked hurricane Sandy 911 and many natural and man-​made disasters. I travel two hours I’m southern New Jersey just to go to Richmond Valley, I am trust my dogs lives with them to the utmost I’ve been coming here for over 30 years and I’ve never had a bad experience. They’re caring and concern is beyond reproach they don’t try to upsell you they really do care about your pets. dr. Powell is been my vet for number of years and I couldn’t ask for nicer more knowledgeable veterinarian. Thank you very much Richmond valley I will continue to entrust my dogs lives with you so they may continue to serve their country and save lives

This place is by far the best veterinarian’s office I have ever been to. The doctors truly care about the animals and are not money hungry encouraging you to spend tons of unnecessary dollars on tests that your pet really doesn’t need. Dr. Caban & Dr. Purcell are my go to doctors and have not let me or my kitties down. They are both really nice and I trust their feedback immensely. I recently moved to Connecticut and have been trying to find a vet’s office closer. Upon a visit to a local vet who tried to have me spend hundreds of dollars on tests my cat didn’t need and had me worried that something was seriously wrong with my cat, I took my cat here during a visit home. Dr. Purcell looked at my cat and was able to explain exactly what was going on (which wasn’t anything that I needed to worry about) and said I didn’t need to have all these tests done on my cat that the other vet said. She made me feel much calmer than I had been feeling after that other visit.
My only negative is that on two separate incidents the office workers didn’t follow-​up with something. I had called them asking them if they could ask the vets if they had any recommendations for a vet closer to me which I knew was a long shot. Though the girl I spoke to was very nice, she never called me back to let me know either way. The other incident was when I was going to see the local vet in CT they had called asking for my cat’s records and were told they needed my approval to send them. I called Richmond that same day and gave my approval and was told the records would be faxed over. Unfortunately, they never were and the appointment was a couple weeks later pretty late at night so when I got there they told me they had no records on my cat about her shots, etc and b/​c of the time they doubted they could get anything. Thankfully, they were able to get in touch with Richmond and I overheard them on the phone and whoever they spoke to told them that they never received a request or approval to send the records, which I know wasn’t true. Secondly, they then faxed the records over to the vet at that moment, without asking to speak to me for approval so the whole needing approval thing made no sense really. Anyway, not a big deal when push comes to shove as it has nothing to do with the care of my pets. All-​in-​all the office staff is friendly.
Though I now live 125 miles away, I will continue to use Richmond as my vet’s office as they are the only place I trust.

Best vet practice I’ve ever used. Never once had any issues. My puppy seems to be relaxed when in their care… Never expected that.

I LOVE this place and only trust my lil furbabies to the vets here. I drive all the way from Brooklyn just to see Dr. Caban (my primary vet), Dr. Powell, and/​or Dr. Schull. They are some of the most knowledgeable, compassionate, patient, amazing vets out there. I can not express my gratitude to them just for being such trust-​worthy vets. They never get mad when I ask a million questions, handle my pups with care, and I always feel like they always have my dogs best interest at heart. I trust and rely on them whole

I can genuinely say that I love my vet! I’ve been going to Richmond Valley Vet for a number of years. I moved to New Jersey and continue to stay with this practice. I have brought my cats and dog to them and I could not be happier. The girls at the front desks are friendly and easy to work with. I have most recently worked with Dr. Caban and dr. Powell. They are very thorough but not like those schemers who run tests to run up the bill. They are affordable and fair. I cannot say enough great things about my experience at RVVP! I love them!!!

No words… There are no words to express our abundant thanks and love for our furbabies’ doc, Dr. Stephen Caban. Today Bella — our black lab was brought in because I found a lump on her back. Dr. Caban checked her, got on the phone with me and explained in every detail what the situation was… We trust him implicitly. He removed Bella’s lump and she is now recovering.
Richmond Valley Veterinary Practice is by far the BEST pet facility ever. I’m sure all the docs are excellent, but no one can compare to our Doc Caban. Anyone who has a pet, needs to use this facility.
We have 3 furbabies… We recently lost one in November. I can’t begin to tell you how emotionally draining some situations were, and Dr. Caban and the staff made not only our Rocky, but our entire family comfortable and at ease.

Everyone at Richmond Valley vet is beyond great! They helped us when our older dog developed diabetes. and walked us through everything we needed to do for his care. They were extremely helpful and were such a source of support when we unfortunately had to put him down. They made the most emotionally difficult process we’ve ever had to deal with as comfortable for us and him as possible.
I currently bring my mother’s dog to Richmond Valley for care and will definitely do the same when we are ready to get another dog.

The best place for your beloved pet!!! Be going there over 20 yrs no better dr than caban

I have a young english bulldog who has a history of problems (naturally included with the territory). As a puppy I would take her to different local vets, each disappointing and more expensive than the last. Not to mention the doctors had no idea what they were doing. Then I heard of this «Bulldog Specialist» in Staten Island and decided to give them a try. Granted it is an hour drive for me to get there, but it is well beyond worth it. Although Dr. Kinnear (technically the reputed «specialist») is no longer there, I have not been disappointed with any of the doctors I have seen at Richmond Valley. The doctors are knowledgeable, honest, take time to answer my gazillion questions and only do tests that they deem necessary for the clinical picture. Their prices are reasonable, and not once have I left their hospital feeling ripped off (which was common after visiting the other veterinary clinics). Whatever problem my poor bully has, I will always make the drive out to Staten Island to see them.
PS– A double bonus is seeing the waiting room full of bulldogs, all huffing and panting. So cute! Don’t have a bulldog? No worries– I’ve seen all types of dogs there, from the tiny chihuahua to a 160 lb great dane (and cats) at their hospital. So they have experience with all types of dogs (and cats)! They’re always busy– which to me is a good sign. 100% recommended.

I have been using this vet practice for years. Sometimes you get what you pay for and in this case it is certainly true. Top notch treatments for both my dogs and cats. All the vets are excellent taking the time to answer any questions you may have in the examination room. You don’t feel rushed. The drs follow up with you after the visitation if you have an injured or sick pet. I will never take my pets to another vet if given the choice. When the time comes to say goodbye to your pet they are sympathetic and will even send a condolence card to your home.

It’s so hard to find a good vet — one that is knowledgable, caring, reasonably priced, and is relatively easy to make an appointment to.
When we moved to Staten Island we searched for vets and this one was highly reviewed so we checked it out for an annual visit.
The visit was as easy as can possibly get! The vet was available almost immediately. He was nice and down to earth. Did not push any of that science diet stuff on us, and respected our request to do the examination on the floor since our dog is not comfortable on the table. Now, we have a working line GSD. I have had vets take one look at him and say «he needs a muzzle». Not here! The vet knew the dog was friendly and did not even mention taking him to the back room or muzzling him. The visit was just smooth sailing from A to Z.
Now, I wanted to wait a bit before writing a review because I wanted to make sure it’s not just that *one* vet that was awesome. In other words, I wanted to see what happens next time.
Next time happened when my dog’s dew claw nail ripped open and I had to take him in at 9AM on a Sunday morning for an emergency. No worries, because they are 100% open for emergencies on sundays! So no trip to the E-​vet was required. Another vet took us in and was just as awesome as the first one :) This trip was more painful for my dog unfortunately and it required that the vet cut the hanging nail off at the root and bandage off the «meaty» part of the nail that was left. Now, don’t get me wrong this was NOT easy. An 80lbs german shepherd in pain can thrash and make everyone miserable but the vet and his staff handled the situation as professionally and as quickly as possible. We were out within 10 minutes, bandaged up and sent on our way.
We do not care about prices when it comes to our dog (we’re a little crazy :)) but this vet’s prices are more than reasonable!
I have no qualms about driving across the island (I live by Sand Lane) to see this practice and would recommend it to anyone who asked me for a vet reference. I wouldn’t take Einstein anywhere else :)

This place is fantastic! I started going there with an English bulldog and now take my cocker spaniel also. They are always spot on, fast, courteous and always have time for an emergency!

I love this animal hospital. Even though I have to travel to the other side of the island for my dogs check ups, I don’t mind. My DR. name is Steve Caban, he’s awesome. Very professional and animal loving and caring. He is very confident on his answers and medical work. I enjoy bringing my pups there. The staff is really nice and friendly also. The other doctors seem pleasant too, the only thing that sucks is when you call them and they put you on hold it can take like long minutes till they get back to you. I know there close Sundays and only attend emergency calls but I enjoy going there, its big and theres nice land around it where you can walk your dog if you like. Theres also a grooming service behind the hospital which is also a plus. I love my DR. & my pups are always handled professional and caring. There prices are not that bad neither & they check everything.

Just visited for the first time today and I am so happy that we found a great Veterinary office for our Lab!
We saw Dr. Purcell who has a very pleasant and calm demeanor. Even though the office was busy, she didn’t rush the visit and answered all of our questions. She did a thorough exam and even cleaned his ears which is nearly an impossible feat with our dog.
The women in the front office are so friendly both on the phone and in person. This is especially nice considering how busy the office is.
Lastly, the building is very nice, super clean and located on a nice property where you can walk your dog while you wait.
I would definitely recommend this office for your pet children.
