Been going here for years to buy bread. Stumbled in one night before heading to Queen City Brewery to grab dinner. It is a very nice, understated place. It is what I love about Staunton. It’s the real deal; no Disneyland type stores.

Their breads are very good, pizzas nice, but the service is awful. I have never called a restaurant for carry out and been refused service because they are closing in 30 minutes. She was so rude, as if I should get my hand slapped with a ruler for daring call so LATE. We have never waited longer than 15 minutes for a order, so that still leaves 15 minutes. On a weekend evening, when everyone is busy running around, DON’T think you can place an order at 8:30, because they close at 9:00.

Fantastik! In the shadow of a Hauntingly Historic Thornrose Cemetery in a Cool Neighborhood Newtown Bakery is waiting… If I had a MaleFriend in Staunton his name would be Thornrose Newtown and we would have many Breakfast meetings here before exploring across the Street(though do NOT leave your Car in Newtowns Parking lot when you leave)… Delicious Breads(Challah), Cookies, Apricot Rosemary Scone, Apple Danish, Bagels, Muffins, Seasonal, Holiday Treats… We were here for Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas Seasons(like Fashion Seasons)…My eBay Bride and I came here one time and the rest of the time I was here with Thornrose(based on a real person)

We spent two nights in Staunton, and ended up here for breakfast both days, despite many other options available in town. I love to bake so I can be a snob about things like this, but they do an amazing job on the hard to execute things(baguettes, pastries) that I don’t try to make at home. The bagels were pretty decent but the croissants in particular were amazing — super flaky. The baguette we got to take for a picnic lunch was also very good — comparable to many that we ate on a recent trip to France. We also enjoyed the local coffee. Ample parking and seating, as well, which is seriously appreciated coming from the DC area. Highly recommended.

My wife brought me a lox bagel home for my birthday. It was by far the best lox bagel I’ve ever had. It was one of the best things I’ve ever eaten. I’ve had the bread before, and it is amazing. Thank you Newtown for a delicious birthday brunch! You’ve got a junkie, I mean customer for life.

So good. I’m committing sacrilege! From ACNJ … The crust. The crust. The thin crust!!! I need three stomachs. I need to be a cow. The best complement I can think of. No offense intended. This was delightful. Stop. Need. To continue. Eating. Leave me alone!!! Yummmmmmmm — — — - minutes later — — — All I keep saying is «Wow, Wow, mm, Wow!!!» This is like having a bit of Italy in your mouth. Travel to the Eternal City. Only bettah! Why? Because instead of like in Rome or Naples where they won’t combine all the toppings on your pizza. They do here!!! Buon pranzo!!!

Had a delicious sampling of Olive, Rosemary and plain rolls for a luncheon today. They were baked fresh today and really hit the spot with a dollop of butter. I will definitely come back the next time passing through Staunton.

The best chicken wings I have eaten. Add to that wood cooked pizza and a charming neighborhood and you have a hit.

I wouldn’t have found this place if it wasn’t for Unilocal, but I’m so glad I did! I was in town for the weekend and got that morning craving for a good croissant to go with my coffee. When I arrived there was a slight line at the counter, but that gave me time to drool/look in the case and behind the counter as I waited. I saw many kinds of delicious-looking pastry and fresh-baked loaves of bread. By the time it was my turn, I’d decided on a croissant and a lemon & blueberry danish. I also picked up a baguette because, well, I have a weakness for a fresh baguette. Without going into a long description of the pure pleasure I experienced eating the pastry, let’s just say it was outstanding! I initially felt guilty and gluttonous eating both the croissant and the danish in one sitting, but I’m calling it research… fully-enjoyable research! The baguette didn’t make it back to the hotel without a piece being violently torn from the end and eaten while I drove. It was perfectly crispy on the outside with a delicious flavor and perfect crumb inside. I’m in awe of bakers who can achieve such perfection. I’m still thinking about that lemon blueberry danish and wishing I was nearby. So good!

I first visited this place in 2011, when it was a minimalist bakery producing excellent bread and pastries, with a few good sandwiches and coffee and bottled beers. 4 years later, they are really on a roll. They’ve significantly expanded the dining area and installed a separate wood-fired oven that’s producing good Neapolitan-style pizza(and other items) during their dinner service. They’ve added a short wine list and are still hitting the ‘bakery’ side out of the park in the mornings. Local artists on the walls, a good crowd of locals enjoying themselves, and a cool location. Go!

We found this restaurant/bakery using Unilocal when some friends and I were traveling to Roanoke, VA. We all loved our sandwiches, and the service was excellent.

Not much to look at from the outside, but inside is clean and inviting, the staff was very friendly and courteous, and the food was delicious! Staunton itself is a charming little town to spend a day in, definitely recommend a visit.

This is real French bread. Pinch yourself, you’re in Virginia, Staunton, country music, camo and all that. Tear off a piece of croissant, shut my eyes, put on a little Carla Bruni and voila, Paris… well not quite but almost. Baguettes are great. I would never admit to eating a morning bun or other sweet things but one may have slipped into the bag. The dog likes barki-bites(which my spell checker thinks are barbiturates) but they aren’t consistently available. The dog has no trouble with a little tear of croissant.

Amazing bread! I was visiting from Richmond and wanted to bring back all the bread I could carry. The olive rolls have the perfect crisp outer shell and soft middle filled with olives. YUM! Their lunch specials are delish! I love that they had fancy and plain chicken salad! One without raisin, nuts, etc… as a raisin hater(okay, non-lover) I love it! The staff is super friendly and helpful. All in all a great place for a morning coffee or lunch! A must try!

After a morning run we stopped in for coffee and breakfast. Everything looked delicious and it was difficult to choose from great options of sweet and savory pastries. We had the scrambled egg and tomato croissant which was my absolute favorite as well as the prosciutto quiche which was also very good

Listen to me. I am a baker. I know bread and I know cookies and I know muffins and cakes and French loaves. They make the BEST croissants in HISTORY. Better bread than Parisian, Julia-Child-copied Poilane. And that ain’t no lie. Promise. You want to go to there.
