We used to like their food when it was on a trailer in kernstown, but since they moved to an actual restaurant, we have had terrible service and the food just isn’t what it used to be. The staff is not friendly and the prices are very high. They are also almost always out of everything! One time they were even out of ranch and Bleu cheese, so dad had to eat his wings dry. They have also been out of many menu items. Also, my mom and me always end up with very bad stomach ache as a result of eating here.

Welcome to crap on a stick, HELL and shitty service on the side!!! Come in to pay for a bbq burger the size of a 4 year olds hand and pay more than $ 10 and then be treated like low life scum! Never have I been so disgusted by the food and the service. First, when a BBQ establishment is empty you know that is a sign for you to leave. Recently went because I had to for work! It was lunch time on a Tuesday and no one was there!!! NOONEWASTHERE! Next a young lady with see through leggings came and stared at us and then asked if we wanted to eat? Like no were for the shitty ambiance ! like hello!!! We just went to see your 200 pound self in see through leggings before I eat a horible lunch! Next they don’t serve lemon with water! Next when I say youre in hell its because you feel youre in hell there is no AC, no fans and mind you they act like water is gold and try to give you one cup ! RUDERUDERUDE! I asked for water and the server/owner told me to wait like I’m a child! The owners and server didn’t want to work that day, and give anyone water! Next, the food came out after an hour mind you we were the only ones there! There was only 8 of us! We got our shitty food, that needed vineager, needed sauce to be edible! Nobody finished their food and left it there! GROSSGROSS!!! Please save your money, time and energy and eat a slimjim ! If I could this place would get no stars! run away don’t come here please save yourself! This place will be out of business soon thanks to the owner, horrible food and ugly servers!

Tried this place on the way home. It’s just off of interstate 81 in Stephens City, VA. I had the pulled pork and Brisket with red beans and rice. Overall it was very good. The pulled pork and brisket were excellent. The red beans and rice could have used a little more bite, but that’s just me. I tried the wife’s ribs and they had great flavor as well as the tenderness. I have no problem recommending this BBQ. The atmosphere was great and the service and friendliness was very good as well.

Recently ate here for my second time. The meat was on point. The sauces were pretty good. I ended up mixing two of them. The sides were decent. I recommend the beef brisket and pulled pork sandwiches. If you like barbecue then you will enjoy this.

This is real BBQ not the saucy stuff you get out of a box or from most restaurants. The out of the way place is run by a sassy lady who can give it back. The sauce which you apply is truly homemade and portioned scantily but they are willing to give you as much as you want. A family run business for the family.

If I could give a negative rating I would. A 1 star is far too high. We had the worst service ever. I’ve never been treated so poorly… from the moment we walked in and the server appeared frustrated to have a customer. They didn’t have 90% if the food on the menu. When we decided to go somewhere else the server said we had to pay for the drinks we had just recieved… and did not drink. I asked for to go cups. They didn’t have those either. She insisted that we pay the $ 6.00 for the drinks that not only did we not drink but couldn’t even take with us. I asked for a manager. She said«I’M THEOWNER and you will pay!» I paid the $ 6.00. That $ 6.00 just cost her the lifetime value of at least 3 families. Never again.

Love this place! The owner is very friendly and nice. We had the pulled pork without the bread(gluten free,) potato chips, baked beans, green beans and chicken wings. Everything is homemade and delicious! Nice homey atmosphere too. Will definitely return!

Was not impressed at all by this place. The prices were extremely high and the food was greasy and cold when I brought it back for pick up. I paid $ 10 to still remain hungry, and that’s not a good thing for BBQ. I also felt cheated by some of the portion sizes that they say on the menu. There wasn’t a lot of good, especially when I walked in there on a weeknight at 7 pm and nobody was sitting there eating but just had two people at the bar. That’s not a good sign. For better BBQ in the area, I’d always pick Bonnie Blue because of their good service and generous portions, this was a big disappointment.

Brisket is quite good but small portion both in sandwich and on platter.. Definitely up size your sides, Mac n cheese is homemade and quite good. Coleslaw fresh, beans OK. It was very quiet on this Sunday at lunchtime…

The only reason this place gets a 4, it was too warm in the dining room. I wish I could give it a 4.5. The BBQ here is divine! We were hungry after our journey to Virginia and needed grub. Checking my Unilocal app, we found this place. When I mentioned BBQ, the hubby turned off his hearing… we were going. I got the brisket sandwich with slaw on it. The brisket had a hint of pepper. It was tender and juicy. It is obvious they know their BBQ here. The hubby got the pulled pork. It, too, was tender and juicy. Both meats cooked to perfection! We got a side of sweet potato fries. The basket was filled with fries, enough to share as our sandwiches came with homemade chips which were delightful as well. We got deep fried brownies for dessert. We did not care for them but that’s just our taste. If you love deep fried these are for you. The BBQ here was delicious and the staff friendly and attentive. So, if you are from the area and have not stopped, shame on you! :)

I have lived in Stephens City a total of 6.5 years and finally made it to try Big Daddy’s BBQ this evening. I have heard wonderful things about this BBQ restaurant. I placed an order to go. I ordered when I got there. They were fast! The service was excellent. The prices were reasonable. The delightful aromas filled the car making the 1.8 mile drive back home seem unusually long. I tore open the bag as soon as I got home. I ordered fried okra, green beans, ¼ rack of ribs, and small order of their pulled pork. There portions are HUGE! I could only eat less than ½ of the quarter rack of ribs. It was smoked to PERFECTION!(I take my ribs VERY seriously.) The seasoning(rub) was excellent. The meat was perfectly pink.(It supposed to be pink when the meat is smoked). One criticism, I don’t think they have their own BBQ sauce. What I was given tasted like the kraft brand. I don’t like bottled BBQ sauce. So I combined their sauce with mine(Sweet Baby Rays), added mesquite seasonings, chipotle seasoning, and a little bit of brown sugar. That combined with their seasoned ribs made the perfect rib platter. The fried okra was fresh and cooked well. The green beans were very tasty. I was surprised by how well prepared their sides were. I didn’t see corn bread on the menu, but I could have missed it. I had an excellent dinner. It was an excellent experience. I will definitely be back. I highly recommend you try them if you haven’t already.

Got the full slab of pork ribs for carry out. Outstanding, tasty ribs and sauce. Very reasonable price and large portions. I will return again when in the area and try some other things on the menu.

We tried the pulled pork family meal with the sweet and tangy sauce, potato salad and macaroni and cheese. I did order this as take out so maybe if we would have eaten in things would have been better. My first issue was that they could not take payment over the phone. In this digital age if you have the ability to take a credit card you have the ability to do so without the card being present. Just plain laziness. Secondly, the pork was poorly packed in the bag. The aluminum container was so bent um the lid was off and there was no way to easily get it out without spilling the meat all over the bag. The bread was simply store bought hamburger buns. The«sauce» appeared to be nothing more than balsamic vinegar. The pork itself was very tender with a nice smoky taste. The potato salad was very tasty. The Mac & cheese left some to be desired but you could tell they had tried. Giving them 3 stars is being gracious, and our experience was mediocre at best. We won’t be back.

Before settling on heading to this place I read some of the other reviews, and the only thing that stuck in my head was something about a big TV showing Reba. Sure enough, that was what was on when we got there. I’m glad I had looked into where it was located, because we pulled into Stephens City having been rained on for quite a while on our motorcycles, and decided to go eat before heading to the hotel so we wouldn’t have to go back out. The weather must have put a damper on people’s dining out plans, because it was almost deserted although several take out orders were picked up, and a group came in after us. No matter, the owner took good care of us, and between a selection of good beer and some nice moist tasty meats we were just fine. Some of the more negative reviews seem to come from purist connoisseurs of BBQ, which I am not. I do, however, seem to know my way around the good stuff, and the brisket I had in particular, with her secret sauce, was great. And the mac and cheese — I could eat that all day. Best of all, the prices are great — a good filling feed for a good price.

When you think of over the train tracks in the country… keep going! Right inside Stephens City we found this down home BBQ joint. It is exactly what you think of when you think of a small town BBQ place with simple tables and Nascar schedules on the wall. You don’t come for the décor, just the food. It was about 5:30pm and the owner greeted and seated us. She seemed quite a rush even though no one else was here. We hadn’t even sat down and had a chance to look at anything before asking us what we wanted to drink. My husband was looking at the military patching and articles on the wall and hadn’t sat down yet to even look at the menu and she came to take our order. Before we had finished eating she asked if we wanted dessert and once we said no quickly came to give us the check and kept looking to see if we had provided a method of payment. We couldn’t figure out if she was trying to rush us for some reason or just provide speedy service, but it was a little off putting. The TV was louder than you would expect, but a least it was playing Reba on CMT so it was entertaining. Now my husband being from the country in Louisiana we don’t take our BBQ lightly. I have to say that the food was the redeeming quality about this place. It was AMAZING!!! The Pork spare ribs were fall off the bone, finger licking good. The dry rub had a brown sugar quality and you really didn’t need any sauce, but the sauces were pretty incredible too with a choice of regular BBQ, sweet vinegar base, and hot sauce. I tried to ask what was in the vinegar base and she wan’t willing to offer up anything other than vinegar. The brisket sandwich was lean and melt in your mouth and macaroni & cheese homemade quality. The only downside to their food were the the burnt potato chips. My husband gives it a star for supporting local troops. They have a wall with honoring service members from the local area with pictures unit patches and write ups in newspapers. I would definitely come back for thee BBQ!

This place gets 2 stars for several reason. A BBQ place should have exceptional meat and tasty sides. I ordered the brisket sandwich, and while tender, there was a limited amount of sauces, and the hot sauce tasted suspiciously of Frank’s Red Hot. That’s not my idea of a hot sauce at a BBQ joint. The portions were small and they charge you for every refill. My wife never got a refill on her soda and was still charged for it. The waitress was a bit short and service was slow, I don’t know why, we were one of 2 families sitting at tables eating. All in all, this place fell short of expectations, and I probably wouldn’t recommend it.

I experienced the two meat plate. It consisted of pulled chicken and pulled pork sandwich. Both were absolutely amazing, juicy and very flavorful! The side items were the creamy macaroni and cheese and very tasty green beans. Everything is homemade. To include the funnel cake fries with the cinnamon sugar, delicious concept. Service was both fast and friendly. Big Daddy is simply delightful to meet in person. I will be back!

I have been wanting to check this out for sometime. One Sunday a few months ago a friend of mine and I did. We had one of the rudest waitresses ever. We got the impression it was a members only type establishment. There was a super cute baby there in a playpen. What the @#$%?! The slightly below average food, surly service and strange atmosphere only warrants 1 star.

Not a lot of BBQ to be found in the area, that said Big Daddy’s is pretty darn good. ‘Que is a very personal type food for those who really love BBQ. Big Daddy’s pulled pork can hold its own with most anywhere in the country. I have only had the pulled pork and a couple ribs from a friend’s plate. Everything was cooked well with good smoke, real smoke which is hard to find in this area! My problem is with the sauces, not my cup of tea. Yet a very good friend loves their sauce. Having read Rob R.‘s I’m not sure what his problem is with Big Daddy’s, on each of my visits it’s been typical BBQ joint found through out the deep south. If your looking for upscale or even chain food atmosphere this isn’t the place for you. The problem I see with the few true BBQ joints in the NOVA area it that the run of the mill customer thinks Chili’s has good ribs. They wouldn’t know proper BBQ if it hit them in the face. BTW — I find the staff very friendly, the décor just right and prices very fair. I only wish the location were closer to Winchester.
