The apartments are nice and maintenance is incredibly prompt when responding to requests, but I would NOT recommend moving here unless you don’t mind dumping money down the drain. I have been a renter for 12 years and had never experienced a monthly rent increase larger than $ 35(this included 7 apartments in 3 different cities) until I moved into Laurel Valley Apartments, which is owned by Dart Properties. In the 2 years and 3 months I’ve been in the same unit at Laurel Valley, my rent has increased $ 215 per month! The worst part is, no amenities changed, my carpet was never cleaned(most apartments offer a complimentary carpet cleaning every 12 months), my military discount was taken away without warning, and my rental Increases started occurring more frequently and with less time in between each spike. If you choose to move here, know you will receive periodic letters saying your rent is increasing and the only explanation Dart provides is «due to market value.» Anyone living in Southeast Michigan knows property values have NOT increased anywhere near the point of raising a tenants rent $ 200+ every month. Additionally, management is unwilling to work with residents on any issue I’ve tried to address with them, the staff is rude and will give you the same generic answer regardless of the situation. They will not compromise/and view all residents the same, meaning they will not budge on a policy or decision for any reason because they say it wouldn’t be fair to the other residents. Oh, and do be aware of their outrageous fees, and definitely scrutinize your lease, their policies, etc. page by page before deciding you want to live here. I would recommend having a lawyer assist with the process. And last but not least, Laurel Valley has two good size pools that remain virtually empty because even though there are tons of chairs, tables, etc, residents are only allowed to bring 1 guest… and there are people monitoring it every day.
