Again I must comment about the way I was treated by CHOCKSETT Inn contract or no contract I gave deposit of 400.00 within 9 days I tried to cancel was rudely treated and told no this was clearly Bad Business! And further more I was told every Sunday of the entire summer was open so that was an extremely poor excuse that someone else could have that date anyone who reads this stay clear of this establishment and book at a more respectable venue again Bad Business!,

Restaurant was a bit difficult to find. The restaurant sign needs to be lighten up. We saw the ball room and the Inn but not the restaurant. The restaurant entrance is between(corner) the ballroom and Inn. The restaurant is located in the lower level. We visited on a Friday night and had a reservation which is not needed. The place in clean. It’s great place to have drinks. The service was average. For starter, we had the fried green bean with spicy ranch dipping sauce. It was refreshing with perfect crunch and snap of the beans when you bite into it. For main course, we ordered blacken scallops with string beans and risotto rice with crabs meat. The scallops was perfectly cooked like butter, the rice s moist and creamy, cheesy like consistency. We also ordered maple glaze salmon with string beans and rice pilaf, the maple glaze sauce was bland, the salmon was cooked to perfection. Both meals came with soup, the clam chowder had some chucks of clams with delicious aroma of bacon balanced with hint of refreshing citrus and the bisque in the other hand was smooth and creamy but needed chucks of lobster or claw to perfect it. Our meal took for ever and the restaurant was not busy at all. No wedding event or any event going on. How much more if the restaurant was busy. Maybe they had to go catch the salmon

My experience at the Chocksett Inn in Sterling, Mass was excellent. My daughter had her rehearsal dinner and Wedding at this location. September 24 and 25th will always be a great memory for me and my family thanks to the staff at this Inn and restaurant. Our rehearsal dinner was held in the restaurant on the bottom floor of the Inn. The restaurant and bar is very nice and cozy. The staff was excellent! The food was very good and served in a reasonable time. The drinks were very good not cheap but good. It appeared that everyone in the wedding party was happy and enjoyed their food. The wedding day was on a Friday. Through out the whole process from the first day of planning until the wedding a coordinator always was available to help. The wedding was held outside in a very nice landscaped enclosed garden. After photo’s were taken appitizers and drinks were being served outside of the banquet area. We made sure with the help of the coordinator that we had at least two bars available before dinner. The drinks were served very fast due to the second bar which was a wine and beer bar. Wedding coordinators were with us for the whole introduction of the bridal party. The food and presentation was excellent. My daughter and I made sure that we went to the wedding expo at the Chocksett Inn several months earlier and tasted everything that was going to be served along with many different photographers to pick from. No problems to report at all. The rooms at the Inn were perfect and very clean. Beds were great. After the wedding a after Wedding party was held in the bar-restaurant. I have to say that it was a great experience and the staff was great. Please keep in mind that this facility is not a chain business or gigantic hotel. One of the great points of this location is that it is small and big enough to have all of your wedding party and friends stay here with proper planning.

I have never written one of these comments before, but I am so appalled by the rude service I received today at Mother’s Day brunch that I felt compelled to write and warn others. After 1 hr 30 minutes we were told we had to leave. This is poor scheduling on their part to space seatings so close together, and even worse management that they would consider kicking mothers and grandmothers out after such a short duration, especially when this time crunch was not communicated when we booked our brunch. Clear that they are just out to make money and jam as many people through as possible rather than provide a quality experience. Food was mediocre at best(desserts decent). Stay away. Many better options out there.

To give credit where it’s due, I think the Chocksett Inn is trying, but they’re not there yet. I had my wedding there in October, and the venue was beautiful. The grounds were gorgeous, the food fantastic, and the reception was a blast. Great grub, excellent scenery, nice bartenders — the after-party downstairs went great and we wrapped up at 1am quite happy, married, and feeling fine. The issue is that the wedding planner(s) and the hotel management don’t seem to share with each other what’s planned, or how to work with one another. A few examples of things that were worked out with the wedding planner in advance: 1) Timeline was laid out with wedding planner as to what rooms we’d be in and when for getting ready on the wedding day. Day of the wedding, the girl from the desk tried to move the bridal party out of the room while the girls were doing their hair and make up three hours early. She also tried to migrate the groomsmen from the wedding suite we had planned on getting ready in. I can’t fathom why this wasn’t shared or why she thought this would be appropriate. Additionally, she was flat out wrong — we were where and when we were supposed to be. 2) I heard of several check-in issues. My favorite: one of the bridesmaids asked the front desk if her husband had checked into their room yet so she could drop off her bags. She was told she couldn’t be told this because of confidentiality. Are you serious? It’s her husband — they share their last name.(Coincidentally, when she checked out, the front desk asked her what room she was in — she replied«I can’t tell you — it’s because of confidentiality» and left the key. Well played!) 3) Two of our guests told of us of little bites on their legs after staying there. This is referenced in below reviews, but I won’t get into that. Personally, the rooms I were in were all very clean and nice, except for one rather dirty tub. The inn itself really is gorgeous and pleasant to stay in. THEDAYOFTHEWEDDING is what really concerned me. Your wedding day should be flawless if you’ve prepared for it, and a venue like the Chocksett Inn provides both a place to stay AND a pleasant location. The management, however, needs to learn to be BOTH a wedding venue and an inn. We had booked the ENTIRE inn, and as guests arrived prior to the ceremony(a cold October day), we faced these obstacles: 4) Prior to the ceremony, as guests arrived, The Chocksett locked the door to the foyer leading inside. Yes, the ceremony was outside, but when a staff member told the 90 year old grandparents that they can’t wait inside for the ceremony? Yeah, poor job there and insulting. Fortunately, the mother of the bride stood her ground and said«too bad.» 5) The door from the foyer into the inn itself was locked and only unlocked after I pointed out that we’ve got numerous babies here and guests. The Chocksett seems to have a desire to sequester the guests outside, and this is just poor thinking. I understand the goal, but you need to use common sense. People needed bathrooms, older people needed to be warm… what gives? Maybe at least put up a sign? 6) My sister-in-law was walking around soothing her teething baby(my nephew) prior to the ceremony. She was told by a staff member it would be nice if she wouldn’t do that and asked if she’d like to go downstairs and sit in the gym. Staff member — you sound like an a-hole. When the baby started crying, my sister in law stood in the hall outside the front desk. Boom. They also have a «no alcohol in the rooms» policy for hotel guests. I just find this odd for a place where people come for weddings. So basically, much of the timeline stuff we had worked out with Alicia so the day would go smoothly was either A) not shared with the hotel staff or B) ignored by the hotel staff. As I said above, they are trying, but they’re just not there yet. The strength of this venue is that everything is on site. Beautiful grounds and reception hall, great food, great bartenders and wait staff, and an excellent bar below for an after party. When done, everyone can stay on site and be together, which is great. That will only be a strength if these teams work together, which they apparently don’t right now. I share this because I would love seeing The Chocksett Inn grow into a better location for a wedding, but right now, it appears to suffer from poor management and poor communication. Hopefully someone will see this and use it to improve their processes so they can deliver on the gorgeous and amazing wedding days they’re so very capable of.

I wish there were a 0 star option. This meal was an absolute train wreck from start to finish. Poor quality food and ingredients. There was not a single acceptable part of the meal other than the water. This was our anniversary dinner, and we ordered appetizers. We each had a clam chowder that really didn’t taste like much. Canned chowder tastes better than theirs My wife had ordered a ravioli appetizer that came out as a different entrée not appetizer. When it was corrected, the ravioli was supposed to be a maple syrup flavor in the ravioli. It was clearly a fake corn syrup flavored substitute. My appetizer was a lobster wonton. The flavor was average, but the dipping sauce had enough salt to choke a horse. It was terrible. Our main courses were equally lackluster. I ordered a duck that was supposed to have a compote with it. It was brought 10 minutes after being served and it was a bus boy who brought it out and stated«this goes with one of the meals». Big help. It wasn’t even my server who brought it. The duck was cooked poorly. Dried out on one end, proper on the other. My wife ordered filet mignon. It had no flavor and was clearly a poor cut. It did not have a good texture, and was without a question the cheapest filet they could find anyplace. The new owners of this restaurant also own a buffet. It seems they are passing off their cheap buffet food in what is supposed to be a decent restaurant. The prices reflect a quality that is not there. If you go to the Chocksett Inn, I’d recommend McDonald’s beforehand. At least you have some idea of what you’re getting there. Lastly, we waited a couple weeks before posting this review. We contacted the Inn directly, and immediately heard back from one of the managers of the Inn, not the restaurant, who said we would hear back from the restaurant. We wrote a second time and still have not gotten a reply.

This place is HORRIBLE!!! First off the owner of this place is completely and utterly unprofessional, upon our arrival he as him in the lobby yelling and swearing at his employee, that is unprofessional and what an embarrassment to his employee to be scolded in front of heir guest. We finally check into our room, and it seemed as if they hadn’t even changed our sheets just kind of remade the bed as our linen did not smell clean and the bathroom was less than pleasurable to be in as the toilet was also dirty and barely had any toilet paper. The ac was making weird noises when we said something about it the employees made it seem like we were a nuisance. Lastly on our last night there(2nighht stay) we noticed we had bites all over our body we demanded to talk to the owner who said it was not his problem and he basically was going to do anything to make up for this or our horrible stay. This man is RUDE, disrespectful, and very unprofessional

Went here to look at a venue for my wedding with my fiancé. My first impression was that the place was gorgeous and the rooms were perfect for my bridal party and I really loved the grounds and the cocktail room area. So why am I giving it a 2 star review and why didn’t we choose it as our wedding venue spot? The only reason we did not choose this place was the staff. We worked with someone named Alexis and she wasn’t professional at all. 1. She actually complained to us about an experience she had with another wedding that annoyed her… 2. It was also very difficult to get a price quote from her. I’ve been to 9 wedding venues and ALL have offered me a price quote(or 3). I actually had to tell her this in order for her to give me one and she did not even include everything that I asked her to in the quote. She told me I could just«do it online in Excel.» 3. We did not get a follow up email after we went(like in every venue that I have gone to). Instead, we got an email saying that she recently sent us some information with messy fonts spread throughout the entire email. Clearly a copy and paste message with no personal touch. Sent me information? So you didn’t remember that we toured your facility? It is upsetting because if it was different circumstances and we worked with someone more helpful and professional, we would have had our wedding there.

This place is apparently under new management, so we thought we’d give it another try. The food was very inconsistent, but occasionally decent, and service lackluster. Our recent experience was nothing short of a train wreck though. To start, the restaurant was more than half empty, and they had most of the lights on really bright. We asked for a booth since that part was lit more like a restaurant and less like a cafeteria and they said it would be 20 minutes. We should have left when we had the chance. Our waitress took our orders, after a while. The hostess actually gave us bread before we managed to get a drink order in. Out salads never arrived, and then our food showed up. After that our waitress completely vanished. My prime rib was ok, but missing the au jus. My sister got chicken when she’s ordered veal. We were stuck in the awkward situation of either waiting for our food to get cold or eating. Luckily we were able to flag another server down in time to get the check. I know there can be plenty of reasons for an experience like this to go off the rails. Sometimes people have bad days. I think overall though its just evidence of the place still being run badly, still. If you were hoping for a change here(aside from décor), you won’t find one. New management: if you read this, and you care about running a restaurant, you have some work to do!

If I could give this place zero stars, I would. Unilocal won’t allow it though. FYI, this is the«newer» restaurant as of summer 2013. And it BLOWS. Honestly, drive 15 extra minutes to Worcester. You won’t be sorry. Let’s begin with them telling us we had to wait 15 minutes when the place was EMPTY, and they had reservations coming in. Well, that was a lie, because one couple came in after my family of 5 and that was it. Those people who didn’t show up made a damn good decision. Lighting — hello, I’m not at the dentist’s office. The fluorescent lighting was so extreme and unnecessary. Service — scatterbrained waitress who neglected us the entire time, despite the restaurant being EMPTY. I ordered veal piccata. I received chicken piccata in some sort of sugary sauce. No thank you. Three of my family members ordered the prime rib, which was supposed to come with an au jus. Of course it didn’t. Food — I am aware this is central Mass, but c’mon. –5 on a scale of 0 to 10. Bread was cold. Salads were ordered TWICE and never received. Fried mozzarella app was supposed to be fresh Bufala mozzarella. I can 100% tell you, it was not. This app tasted like something from the frozen food section of Walmart. My mother’s chicken Caesar salad sucked, and quite frankly, that’s not difficult to make. Wine — I ordered a Sauvignon Blanc that may have just been bad or spoiled. Though I ordered a different glass of wine to replace it, we were still charged for the crappy one. Other quips — the waitress referred to PENNE as «peenie» and guess what? I ended up with linguine despite listening to her mispronounce penne countless times. I’m reliving this awful experience by writing this, so I’m gonna quit now and go have some ice cream since I’m still hungry after that despicable dinner.

We came here for a wedding and even considered this location for our own wedding. Sadly this place is severely mismanaged. Below is a list of our concerns This place was just remodeled, so our room was clean but had an overwhelming smell of fresh paint and a rattling of A/C. My boyfriend and I ordered the vegetarian pasta. The pasta was cold and tasted as if it had only been tossed in olive oil – no salt or pepper on the table to correct this. I was eyeing a child’s fish sticks across the room because I was so hungry. The front desk staff were not very nice and brought us a food cart when I asked for a luggage cart. I guess it was in use at the time, but they could have at least apologized. They instead rolled it to us and barked, «just bring it back when you’re done.» Upon check out, the hotel made a mistake and charged us for two nights instead of one. We had to get the manager involved to correct this problem. She wasn’t very nice either. She corrected the problem then walked away without saying anything else. The manager may have been stressed from all of the other problems other guests were having at this place, but still. Maybe it was an off weekend for them… either way, I am very sorry for the bride and groom who paid lots of money and were still treated poorly. As I see it, they should be discounted for ruining what is supposed to be the best day of their lives. We had once considered this place even with it’s hefty price tag… something like $ 10,000−15,000. Now you couldn’t pay me to have my wedding at this place.

We went here to celebrate my father-in-law’s birthday and my husband and my’s anniversary. There were 6 of us in our party and we had reservations. Our service was painfully slow. They finally brought our wine, but after 10 mins we had to stop a random server to ask for the other cocktail that was ordered… and we were sitting in the room with the bar! When they brought our clam chowder the first time, it was cold. When they brought it the second time, it was cold. We told them we didn’t want it but they brought it a 3rd time and it was luke-warm. My brother-in-law ate a bit of it and had violent food poisoning later that night. An hour and fourteen mins after we got there they brought us our food. Three of us had ordered prime rib. The prime rib and the potatoes were cold. At this point we left. We will not be going back.

The Chocksett Inn really came through for our wedding! We searched and searched for the perfect venue for our same-sex marriage venue and ended up choosing the very first place that we visited, The Chocksett. One of the most important things for us was a good«plan B» in case of inclement weather… and am I glad we did because it rained buckets our entire wedding day(6÷2÷12). Our wedding planner(s) Candace and Paula, seamlessly moved the ceremony inside, created a beautiful and comfortable space and everything went off without a hitch. To me, that is really priceless. I’ve been to many weddings that lose a lot when they are moved inside — I can honestly say, that if I was to do it all over again, I would just choose the inside. For all of the stress and worry involved with fanatically watching the weather… totally not worth it. Being a same sex couple, we were concerned with finding a venue where we would be treated with dignity and respect for us and our marriage. Our wedding planners, and the entire staff at the Chocksett, were great. Not even once were we made to feel unwelcome or «second rate.» Our wedding came in over our intended(rather naïve) budget at about 250%… but as far as I’m concerned, it was worth every last penny. Excellent value, and the price of the packages really were all inclusive. We brought in our own florist and desserts, but everything else was provided by the Chocksett. So… one minor blip… Candace gave her notice and was scheduled to leave her duties as wedding coordinator at Chocksett four days before our wedding. A little gentle persuasion(ok, ok, I had a major BRIDEZILLA melt down), and we were able to get Candace to be there on our wedding day. Paula was great too. We got to enjoy every minute of our wedding day because Candace and Paula did every single thing that we asked them to. I can’t emphasize enough the importance of having an excellent wedding coordinator with you on your special day — it allows you to spend all of your time with your spouse, family and friends — you don’t want to spend your time worrying about whether Auntie Sue is in the right chair when you walk down the aisle. I loved my wedding — it was perfect — thank you to all at the Chocksett!

Attended a wedding here and stayed for one night. The wedding planner(on staff) did not miss a beat. She made the event run flawlessly. The food at the dinner(for 150 people) was the best banquet food we have ever experienced. The appetizers(stroling staff served) were delicious and surprisingly the entrees were served hot at the tables and the quality and taste of the food was fabulous. The rooms(which are al suites) are very clean and smoke free! A great venue for any banquet event, but a perfect setting for a wedding!

When we were picking out a wedding venue, we checked out the Chocksett Inn. We wanted a country wedding, and a place with good food so we decided to try to Chocksett for dinner. Our restaurant experience was a little weird… there was no hostess, so we had to as the concierge what to do. We had to sit there in the lobby for about 5 – 10 minutes before a waitress showed us to a table. Our food was average, aside from the fact that everything was a little too salty for our tastes. My caesar salad was good but my now-husband’s crab soup was wayyyy too salty. I got some steak with lobster mac and cheese as my main course. The steak was sort of unmemorable but the lobster mac and cheese was pretty good but again, salty. Service, however, was great. The salty food helped us to decide to continue on our quest, along with the sort of blah ambiance. It felt like it was trying to feel colonial but it wasn’t quite succeeding… it felt sorta pseudo-colonial and not as cozy at we hoped.

My husband and I were married here this past May. We found the place by accident and fell in love with it instantly. We had been to at least 4 locations prior to finding The Chocksett and had resigned ourselves to the fact that we would have to compromise some of our expectations and settle on something not quite perfect. That was not the case. When we met with Diana at The Chocksett, she surprised us by answering all of our questions with the answers we hoped for. We dined in their restaurant and were thrilled with the quality of food. We booked the place the next week! We were married on-site in their garden and held the reception in their new hall. The food was phenomenal! Everyone raved about it. I was amazed at the quality of each and every one of the 175 meals that were served. The food was wonderful in the restaurant, but I thought it might suffer on such a large scale. Thankfully, I was wrong. Their chef has been with them for years and has previously worked at a small bistro on the Cape. Hopefully, he will be there for many more years to come. Our wedding guests accounted for all of the overnight guests in the 26 rooms at the Inn. The rooms are nicely appointed with double, queen or king size beds and kitchenettes in most(if not all) of them. Of course, my husband and I stayed in their deluxe honeymoon suite which had two floors and a spiral staircase! Very nice and worth the extra $ 100 for the night. There are a few minor reasons why I did not give The Chocksett Inn 5 stars. Their staffing changed while we were planning the wedding which required some getting used to. That being said, Paula(the new wedding planner, was great. Their time frame for the new reception hall changed during our planning so not everything was completed on time. This was not a big deal as all of the big things were done and the place looked fabulous. My mother was freaking out about the landscaping, but I didn’t find that to be a deal breaker. I was, however, disappointed that not everything was installed as they said it would be. They couldn’t pipe in my music for the cocktail hour and the bathroom in the bridal«holding» suite was not functional due to issues with with their permits. That seems to me like something that should have been realized earlier in the process of building. I highly recommend The Chocksett Inn for weddings, however even if you are not planning a wedding, it is worth the trip out for dinner. They have regular comedy nights and offer specials on Mondays and Tuesdays(buy one meal, get one free). They also have random weekend getaway specials which could be fun. My husband and I are very much looking forward to our anniversary dinner there next May.
