Three things immediately come to mind thinking of Screamers Hollow: 1. Far, far away. Like an hour drive from Syracuse. 2. Expensive… It’s considerable more than others. 3. Wasted opportunity. A great space, but unfortunately not scary at all. Now a couple good points: The hayride was pretty darn good. It was enjoyable. not especially scary, but fun. Some of the voices and sound fx coming from the scenes in their hayride were really good too. Overall, if it were closer, or cheaper, it’d be more satisfying… But the lack of scares on top of those things, made us feel disappointed.

Do NOT go here. Huge waste of money. You have to pay $ 15 just to, essentially, get in. It’s for their Village of the Damned and you are definitely damned if you do. They have a «concert stage» where they play music from a boom box while you watch their ghoul actors dance around. There is also«scary story time» and some freaky court case acting that is neither funny not frightening. If you want to do their haunted maze you pay an extra $ 5, and believe me, it’s hardly worth that. This thing used to be awesome a few years. Things went to hell.

We had an awesome time at Screamers’ Hollow. Having to drive all the way out to Sterling, far from any bright lights, made it the perfect setting. The old, dark back roads and creepy-looking barns on the last stretch of the drive only helped to set the scene even better. And I loved how dark, cloaked, and mysterious the entire village was. That definitely added to the authenticity. You never knew… what would be lurking around the next corner! We did all the attractions – and it was well worth it. The crew did an excellent job, and yes, they did manage to catch me off guard and really scare me a few times, which was great. Walking through the darkened streets of the town(which is barely recognizable as my beloved Renaissance village!), barely glimpsing shadowed figures as they stumble past and not being quite sure whether they’re other people out to explore the town or part of the cast/crew waiting to catch you unawares, hearing the cold wind rush through the trees and the lonely and sinister sound of dead leaves whirling around on the ground… all so very cool. I can’t wait to go back!
