Maybe I am a tainted reviewer… Full disclosure… Employee back in 1984! When I was 14. Anyway, it is very nice having such a large winery in our backyard. I live about 2 miles away. I love the great selection of reasonably priced wines. I have been to many small operations in the area and most are one trick ponies. Not Naylors. They have many wines to fit most tastes. Naylors has captured many awards at the state and national level. They deserve them. Personally I like the Blush, First Capital, Niagara, Concord, Fragola, Intimacy, Rapture, Cherry Chocolate Kiss. I am predominantly a sweet wine drinker although I do like some dry reds. The Summer Sounds concerts are a great Saturday night date for my wife and I. We bring a light dinner along and sit outside under the stars enjoying the Big Band music. It is fun to watch the older crowd get out their and«cut a rug» like they were still in their 20’s. The owner, Dick Naylor, is always there on Saturdays. He doesn’t get around like he used to but he still greets you with a smile and a thank you. He appreciates your business and makes you feel welcome. The winery will one day be in the capable hands of Ted Potter, his son in law. This guy creates some interesting wines. Cherry Chocolate Kiss has got to be one of his greatest creations so far. If you come during the day, be sure to bring a picnic along and sit outside in the gazebo. Enjoy the view and the great outdoors.

Loved it! So glad the first winery was such a disaster because I was still in the mood for more wine and this was the next closest spot! The wines were amazing definitely more on the sweeter/dessert which is right up my alley. Their flavors are the best I’ve ever had. Walked in and it was very cold and quite, almost a little creepy because you do the tasting right in the winery itself. Unfortunately we didn’t get to do the tour because there was only 1 person working that day so we kind of got jipped but I’m definitely going back so I’ll catch it next time. You get 5 tastings for $ 3, it was soo hard to choose which 5! My boyfriend chose all red, I chose all white and we shared. Not a huge red wine person but even theirs were pretty good. Some of the flavors were Strawberry, mango, apple and grape, apple and peach, there was even one called pink flamingo which was their version of a sangria… YUMM!!! They even had. you’re not going to believe it… a spiced apple wine that was served warm. BEST. WINE. EVER! It tasted like Christmas trees and opening presents and apple pie! I snatched that baby up and couldn’t wait to get home to drink a whole bottle by myself. Which might or might not have happened. Shhh! It’s a beautiful drive and worth it! I wish I had the money to buy cases of their wine!

I visited this winery once and had a fantastic time, with a beautiful view. The wines were sweet and very flavor filled. There is a beautiful sound stage that held many talented musicians in the few hours I was there. It was a family friendly atmosphere with plenty of room to roam and have some privacy if desires.

OK, I took the place for what it was… and was not expecting the«haute, upscale» experience that the previous reviewer was. Then again, I don’t consider myself a yuppie wine snob. Nor do I claim to be an expert on wineries or wine, although I’ve been to a few here and there.(And no, this place won’t be confused with California’s Napa or Sonoma Valley wineries.) The actual prices for the wines were very reasonable, compared to other wineries I’ve visited.(And what’s wrong with a few picnic tables… I’ve seen these at other wineries before.) Full disclosure, I came to Naylor Winery via a Capital Hike Club excursion in Md/PA, and the hike leader evidently has been coming to this winery for years and is friends with Mr. Naylor, the owner(who is an older gentleman, so bear this in mind)…we pretty much got a tour and tastings as a personal favor after our hike… so I can’t complain about the price. The place is definitely more on the rustic side and doesn’t try to be a fancy, upscale place. I must say our group – which numbered about 45 people– received extremely generous portions during the sampling of tastings, so that may have gone a long way in making everything not so bad. Each table received a plate of cheese, crackers, and really delicious grapes(that reminded me of the kind my grandmother used to grow, when she made wine.) We sampled a mix of white, red, rose/blush, and fruit wines. I must say I like my wines a bit on the sweet side and liked the Rhinelander, a very mellow, soft, semi-sweet wine(includes 10 percent Niagara, their best selling sweet white wine) and Ambrosia’s Dulce, a blend of peach, apple, and grape. I was surprised at how much I liked the The Cabernets, a blend of the Cab Sauvignon and Cab Franc, which are more on the dry side I tasted some others in the store section, and the Riesling had a very strong taste of peach, which was quite refreshing. Was looking forward to the Muscadal, as I don’t see it that often, but it didn’t end up being a fav. Many in the group seemed to like the First Capital, a dry, oak-aged red wine. The owner, Mr. Naylor, provided the commentary for our tasting… he has his own unique personality and likes to talk and tell stories, not sure if I believe all of them, though. He did seem to get off topic and go all over the place… and more than once our table looked at each other with a mix of confusion and laughter… he is entertaining. Now he did talk about the pavilions and development of the place, pointing out the flag, mentioning that each night he required everyone to stand up and sing a patriotic song… yeah was not expecting that, nor were many of the others at my table… but he didn’t actually do it during the tasting… evidently this happens at the many concerts and shows they host under the pavilion on the stage, so consider yourself warned.(Again he is an older gentleman.) Mr. Naylor ended the tasting with two songs… again not expected, including Danny Boy… that’s a hard one to pull off. We indulged him, as he had been generous to our group, it was the least we could do. We got a short tour following the tastings. again by Mr. Naylor. I did enjoy the story of the labels. He made the point that you are not allowed to say what is good on the label, but only what could be bad for you… so on certain ones(the Grenadier ones?), he has a tribute to Mom, that includes the fact she is 107 and drinks a glass or two of wine daily. Keep in mind, he also has a sparking wine named Bubbles Galore, named after – you guessed it — a stripper Mr. Naylor first experienced back in Baltimore during his college days. A good number of members of our group ended up purchasing some wine by the day’s end… again I’d say very reasonably priced… I bought some Bubble Galore sparkling wine(just had to), and the Niagara with the«Tribute to Mom» label. If you are expecting a fancy, well-to-do upscale place, Naylor’s may not be for you. But if you don’t mind a down home, genuine, friendly, rustic place with a touch of eccentricity, give Naylor’s a try.
