Pagoda Pizza

This is a cool place. The idea is something I have never heard of but hey, it works. I’m forgetting which one I had as it has been a while now but it was delicious. A more crust like option for the old Okies might not be a bad idea but I really impressed with the quality and combination of the flavors. KUDOS

My absolute new favorite food truck. I tried The Sumo, and fell in love. It was the best decision I made while at H&8^th. The mix of eggs, noodles, bacon, and whatever else was on it made it unbelievably good. The sauce was delicious, too! I’m a little sad they’re based in Stillwater because I’m selfish and want them in Oklahoma City, but until next time, I’ll be dreaming of another plate.

It’s not pizza! Make them show you what they are serving before you order. Bait and switch Asian Fusion dish masquerading as pizza.

I found them at the H&8^th night market, and the food is amazing. It’s not your typical pizza, but a must try. I got the Geisha, which was absolutely delicious. It took them 15 – 20 minutes to make the food, but it was worth the wait. The people were friendly and nice, which is always a plus.

So on Sunday, went walking around Barton Springs area and decided to checkout the Barton Springs Food Court. Its right behind Thoms Market on Barton Springs. Very nice selection of food trailers there. Diverse and unique. It was slow so it was pretty cool to talk to the different owner/​operators there. They all seem like good guys who love what they are doing.
So I wandered up to Pagoda Pizza Trailer. I wasn’t really feeling a pizza but after talking to the owner about his creation, I was open to trying one. I ordered the Yankee, which had bacon on it. Yum.bacon. When it came out, it was piled high with cabbage, noodles, bacon, cheese, and onions on a crêpe like crust. It was very fresh tasting and a very interesting concept. I guess you can say its an Asian pizza. I can;‘t say I have ever tasted anything like this but I did enjoy it. I will be back to try some of the other things on the menu.

The taste of this food is amazing! It’s like two crepes filled with vegetables, noodles, and all sorts of Japanese-​stuff, topped with a fried egg. I had the Sumo Lite which came with sausage, and it tasted great, left a good after-​taste, and was refreshing and filling. The owner is also super-​friendly.
Unfortunately, I’m not sure the trailer is going to last because it doesn’t fit into standard mental boxes for passer-​byers («Is it Pizza? Is it Japanese fast food?»).

Don’t let the name fool you, this is not what you typically imagine when you hear «pizza». My husband and I stumbled across this food trailer after taking an afternoon walk around the South Lamar area. Jointly, we ordered the Geisha «pizza», a side salad and a side of rice. When I first tried to order just a side salad for myself, I was told that as it is a «side» that could only come with one of the pizzas, even though there was no signage banning side items from being ordered alone. This was rather annoying considering we were literally the only customers and I was simply ordering a salad that was posted on the menu, and it being a food truck you KNOW he COULD have accommodated the request if he wanted to. So instead my husband altered his order so that his pizza came with a side salad, and I did not order anything independently. Even though we ended up with exactly what we wanted to order, the rather unaccommodating attitude due to HOW we placed our order, was not the level of customer service and friendliness you would hope to expect in a small business food truck.
The side salad, for what it was, was really more of a cole slaw, heavily chopped with cabbage, almonds, crunchy noodles and dressing, rather tasty on a hot Texas day. The «pizza» is essentially a crêpe with a variety of toppings marinated with spices and sauces. It was quite tasty all together, with a strong balance of flavors.
My take-​away? The food here is good, but I was really disappointed by the customer service in regards to ordering a salad. Quite disappointing.

Loved the okonomiyaki here. Got the surf and turf with fried egg added. Only wish is that it was a little bit larger, but overall will definitely be back!

My friend and I had some time off during Spring Break, and wanted to try out a new Asian lunch spot. Having heard of Pagoda Pizza previously, we trekked over to the Barton Springs area to check it out. I’ve only had okonomiyaki once, at another Austin food trailer, and I found it bland and forgettable. Now, I’m SO glad I gave it a second chance here — it was delicious and cheap and I’m dying to go back! Okonomiyaki is usually considered a «savory pancake», but in my mind it’s like deconstructed, fried sushi… and I love it now. It’s going to be an issue, I can tell.
We both got it Kansai style, mine was the «Sumo Lite» and my friend got the «Geisha». The Sumo was certainly not over-​heavy, but it wasn’t exactly «Lite» — it had the perfect number and combination of toppings (including bacon and sausage, with a great mayo/​sweet sauce on it). My friend’s Geisha, which was vegetarian and thus normally scorned by me, was also amazing. The portions are HUGE — we could easily have split our order, which also came with a great broccoli and almond salad and rice (oddly delicious rice too, I would stop by just to get this!) The owner was really helpful too, in terms of helping us order and figure out our different lunch options, which was great. The trailer itself is clean and adorable, and has a great location as well.
I would highly recommend this dining spot, even if you’ve never had okonomiyaki — it’s worth a try! I know I’ll be filling up my Pagoda Pizza punch card very, very quickly.

This is why I love Austin! This place is so unique and so unpredictably fresh, I just love it. Here’s why you’ll love it, when was the last time you had okonomiyaki? For me, it’s been about 20 years. When was the last time I even saw it offered? Again, 20 years. Okonomiyaki is a basically a Japanese pancake. Yes, Japanese pancake. Yes and yes.
Pagoda’s okonomiyaki is typical only in the fact that it has all the same basic ingredients, cabbage, pancake, mayonnaise, and sweet sauce. But here’s where Pagoda Pizza get’s weird with it (Austin weird, not stupid weird), you can get it with bacon (need I say more?), sausage, shrimp, shredded pork, seasonal veggies, mushrooms, seaweed, fried egg, and I think those little geniuses may have thrown in some kimchi for good measure. I can’t be sure, but there was something pink that was utterly delicious.
The taste was simply awesome and mind blowing in a million different ways. The best part is, if okonmiyaki sounds like it’s your kind of thing, knock yourself out but if you’re with a party of people who simply want a sandwich, some wings, a taco, some fruit or hot dog, they can go off and get it at one of the other food trailers.
The owners are also a super nice couple and will come and chat with you when they’re not blowing your mind with their mad Japanese pancaking.
Regarding the food trailer community, I simply can’t find the right words to express how adorable, fun, quaint, and family friendly it is. It totally blew my mind when I realized what I had just discovered.
They have a fire pit and a band that plays, on a stage on Saturday nights. Yes, this is food trailer park that has a fire pit and stage. I’m actually afraid that if I effectively articulate how amazing this place is, it will become the hottest spot in town and then me and my friends won’t be able to congregate there, drinking whatever alcohol we want, around a fire pit, listening to some awesome local band. So, don’t go. Leave that shit hole to me and my friends, you won’t like it anyway. And, definitely don’t tell your friends. Go to Applebees.

I stopped by this food court with a friend on Saturday and was pleasantly surprised by how clean and adorable the park itself was. (They even wall off the port-​o-​potties.) I was immediately attracted to the shiny red food trailer in the back corner and went to investigate. I had no idea what a Japanese pizza was, but when I saw bacon was involved, I was sold. I tried the Yankee and it was great. My only regret was that my friend got something with more toppings and I was just a bit jealous b/​c everything tasted so great (pork and the fried egg). There were so many flavors and so many textures, and they all really work well together. I wanted to be skeptical, but I was shoveling into my face so quickly, I forgot. I’ll be back soon for the food and the atmosphere!
