Pat’s Sub Shop is located in the Frank Stumpf Building, which once housed a post office, candy and paper store, barber shop, shoe repair shop, and a corner store. The place itself is a small old school takeout restaurant serving hot & cold submarines, burgers, hot dogs, fish frys, clam rolls, chicken, and fried finger foods. The specialties here are the ¼ lb cheeseburger subs and fish frys. Small tray dinners and large tray dinners include any 2 side order choices(fries, onion rings, fried mushrooms, fried cauliflower, fried zucchini, baked beans, mac salad, cole slaw, tossed salad). They used to serve pizza(blacked out on the sign) here. There are a few pizza places in Stillwater very close by. While passing through Stillwater, I made a pitstop at Pat’s Subs for lunch takeout. It took me a few moments to decide what I wanted since there were plenty of menu options posted on papers high on the wall. I finally decided on the Fish Fry Small Tray Dinner($ 7.50 total) which came with 2 side choices(I chose fried mushrooms and fried cauliflower). The service was friendly and the food was ready in about 7 minutes. The fried food goodness was not too greasy with the standard amount of breading. The long fish fry was pretty good, which was fried cod, very hot temperature-wise with a moist texture, served on a soft hot dog bun, The fried mushrooms and cauliflower were good side choices, a nice change from usual fries and slaw, though there were a two shoestring fries(unsalted) thrown into the mix, bonus!
