We stay in Stintson beach every year. The entire family rents wetsuits to boards. Great size selection and they are always accommodating. We recommend to all family traveling through.

Donny & Mark were fabulous – so helpful and easygoing about the whole process. We had an amazing afternoon on the Bolinas Lagoon. Saw harbor seals and Leopard sharks, birds galore – it was great fun out to the mouth of the lagoon, and then around the island a little bit– Donny brought the kayaks to us, so no hauling, which made the day so much more relaxing and fun for us. Thank you!

Always an excellent experience with Donny the owner. Love to rent bikes and kayaks. A true professional with a great disposition and the best customer service ever. A great value and beautiful way to spend time at Stinson.

They couldn’t have been more helpful and accommodating for me and my family. We rented two kayaks and spent 2+ hours on the Bolinas Lagoon. The prices were good, service was great and the location is fantastic. Make sure you call ahead because the lagoon is dependent upon the tides, so there are times when there is not enough water to kayak.

This is the first time I’ve bothered to submit a business on Unilocal, our experience was that good. Run by an extremely charming and efficient local, Stinson Beach Surf and Kayak Rental makes it easy to access one one of the best outings in the Bay Area, kayaking in the Stinson Beach/Bolinas Lagoon. My husband and I just spent a sunny Saturday amidst curious seals, leopard sharks, massive stingrays, and thousands of migrating birds. Its a very very special place. If you go, please be kind to the lagoon and follow the rules about only kayaking two hours before and after high tide, and stay away from resting seals and other animals. I prefer this area to kayaking on nearby Tomales Bay as the animal life is more concentrated, and the lagoon itself more protected. Back to the business itself; the quality(sit on top) kayaks are available for a steal of a price, and setting up the rental and meeting the owner at the dropoff/pickup point at the lagoon were absolutely effortless.

The weather has been beautiful these past few days so my friend and I decided to go kayaking yesterday. We both live around the SF area and wanted to kayak at a new spot within a 30 – 40 mile distance. I narrowed it down to Stinson Beach or Half Moon Bay. I decided on Stinson beach and gave them a call three days before we planned to head out there to figure out the details and what not. No answer, so I left a message. Donnie,(the owner maybe?) gave me a call back. He was super friendly, laid back, and helpful. We decided to meet near the Bolinas Lagoon and everything worked out smoothly. Also! I was worried I wouldn’t have been able to kayak because I broke my ankle and was still in crutches :(. But I’ve been dying to do something recreational because I love the outdoors and the water. Donnie was totally fine with it, and it was a piece of cake getting in and out of the water given the circumstances. I was so glad! Since it’s been 4 months since I’ve done anything active. So overall, the service was awesome. The lagoon was beautiful, we kayaked over to to the mouth of the beach and it was breathtaking watching the waves come into the lagoon. Also there are a ton of seals that swam around and popped their heads out starring at us curiously! It was awesome! I can’t wait to go back!

My friends and I were dying to rent a kayak in Point Reyes but all of the rental places closed on Tomales Bay by the time it was 3pm. So we headed down south, back towards San Francisco and happen to pass by this rental store when we passed Stinson Beach. By that time, it was nearly 5pm, and the place was closing. But, one of the workers there came out decked out in his wet suit looking like he was ready to hit the waves(he was), and offered to let us rent a couple of ocean kayaks and return them after hours. He told us we could just drop them off at the beach when we were done and he’d pick them up after he finished surfing. Alas, we had an amazing time on the ocean with our kayaks – and that’s after two terrifying cap-sizes in the ocean. It was an unbelievably memorable experience and I’m super thankful that the folks and Stinson Beach Surf & Kayak were so down to earth and trusting of us with their equipment after close!

My girlfriend and I drove past Stinson this July 4 weekend, originally to look for some good waves in Bolinas. But with some of the roads there already closed for construction and the beach already getting crowded, we decided to book it back to Stinson and surf there. I had brought my board and a wetsuit, and she had a wetsuit but no board. In short, we were overjoyed to find Stinson Surf & Kayak, as the people here gave us a terrific afternoon. This shop is located on the north end of the main beach in Stinson, which can get some good waves if the sharks aren’t biting. The weekend we went the weather was warm and the waves were packing just enough punch to make it interesting. The folks at this shop gave us a great deal on a long board($ 20) for the day, and they even helped us look for parking amid the crazy holiday weekend tourist stampede. They also happily agreed to hold our belongings while we left our towels on the sand and paddled out to the break. They were the nicest, most welcoming people I’ve ever met at any surf shop, hands down. The beach is about 50 yards behind the shop, so you can just grab your board and carry it out there. They offer lessons, too, although we didn’t purchase one. The instructor I talked to seemed like he really loved chatting with surfers both experienced and novice — if you’re there to enjoy the waves, he’s there to make sure you have a good time. Can’t wait to go back!
