Really nice older man who does good work… For the most part he has done a good job on my jeans. Recently two pairs were cut a tad too short. Also I brought in a shirt that he couldn’t fix. He sent me to another shop and they couldn’t help either. I was a bit disappointed, as he has always been able to fix my clothing. Even when I brought in silk shirts, as this one was too. He said he didn’t have the zipper and I would have to go to a dressmaker. Still I have been going to him for 5 years now and his prices are low. He does good work just not super intricate work, and it’s always an even cut. Plus I like the location. It’s near my way, and even when driving parking is easy to find.

I had a pair of J Brands jeans that were too long and wanted them shortened with the original hem. I’ve had other jeans hemmed with Macy’s alterations, which they do free of charge if the item was purchased at Macy’s. If you want the keep the original hem, Macy’s will unravel the original hem, shorten your jeans, refold your original hem, then sew it into place. The result is imperceptible. This is what I expected after consulting with Stephen, the owner of KS Tailoring. As I discovered, they have a different idea of original hemming. They cut your jeans about .5cm above your hem, shorten your jeans, then sew your hem into place. They use a dark thread, but you can still see the stitching. The stitching wasn’t straight either. I was very disappointed. What is the point of paying more for original hemming when you can clearly see the alteration? I don’t see why they charge more for original hems($ 15) when the amount of labor is the same as non-original($ 10). I also disliked they way the end of the stitching was place at the front of the pant leg. It should be placed at the inner corner of the jeans so that it stays hidden. That is where jean manufacturers place it. I would recommend going to KS Tailoring for only the most basic alterations, where details don’t matter.

back in the old days when i would often scour the stockton thrift stores and find awesome vintage clothing, i could count on mr. lin’s alterations of these fine pieces. he was always reliable and realistic about saying what could be done versus«there is no way you will ever be able to fit into this without removing your ribs» in response to my finds. he often would discount some easier alterations for being a constant customer.

I turned in a velvet blazer with two slits in the back here. Mr. Lin fixed it up ok(balance was a little off, but hardly noticeable). He did forget to sew up one of the slits. So I went back, and apologetic as can be, he said it would only take 5 minutes. So I waited and read the latest Esquire, sucking on Chinese candy(which came in a red wrapper [still wondering what candy that was {when I was little, a quaint little Filipino woman used to give me a few every time I saw her}]). He got it done in 5 minutes, and he gave me past Esquire issues as compensation. Pretty cool… rule of thumb executed. Three stars because twas a little pricey for taking it in one inch in the center back seam($ 20), balance is a little off, and I had to go back to get it fixed. But thanks for the back issues(Didn’t get the new issue…[muttering])
