Still a great lunch. Fish & Chips on Friday were great!

True Stockton classic even with the new owners but still sad that the old building burned down.

This place is smack-dab in the middle of a friggin’ neighborhood. It’s seriously house-house-Simoni’s-house-house-house. And it cannot possibly have the capacity inside to seat more than 20 people for a meal. Having said that, the inside is very clean and gussied up(which honestly, from the outside, you would not expect that). Also, they have some of the BEST fried raviolis I have ever had, and their calamari is nothing to turn your nose up at. They obviously were using fresh oil to fry these babies up(one of my biggest foodie pet peeves is when things are fried in old oil… it makes SUCH a difference). They only had one server for the new lunch crowd and, poor girl, she was running all over. She definitely was at work, which I appreciate(nothing sticks in my craw like a lazy server). As long as I have a guy with me when I head over there(no one act affronted… I grew up on «D» St, I can talk like this), I will definitely be returning. :)

It’s alive! And back from the ashes as well! Yes friends, if you remember going to lunch & dinner here«back in the day», i’m glad to say that it is back, with a whole new bar & grill! My friend & I were curious to see all the construction finished since it was near our workplace. We stopped in last week to see if they were open for lunch & we were greeted by the owner behind the new bar that sits just to the right of the main door. There are barstool tables & a few lower chairs, along with the kitchen in the back. The dining & bar area are combined now, and not separated as before. Its an open plan, with room to mingle & a good view of several flat screens that were on with various sports channels. There is even a very cool looking touchscreen jukebox that looks like a giant I-Pod on the wall! Now to the food. We were greeted warmly with an explanation of the menu & the daily special, which happened to be chicken parm and/or scallopini & spagetti with navy bean soup. We were told that the chef also works at the Woodbridge Inn on the weekends & let me say he didn’t dissapoint! The soup was hot & fresh, with lots of beans & bits of pork in a thick broth. The scallopini(my dish) was tasty with a rich mushroom sauce. The chicken parmigian was nice as well, along with a generous portion of linguini pasta & a meat«gravy» that was savory. Along with fresh Genova bread & butter too. Lastly, it cost about as much for both of us as it would be for one person at a national chain restaurant. So, don’t wait, turn on that GPS and treat yourself to lunch there soon! Oh, and they have the usual burgers & fries, along with wings too. We’re coming back for those next. But I have to wait till 5pm for that drink ;)

Was working down on west Fremont this week so I thought I’d give Simoni’s a visit. Haven’t been in there in years, and everyone said it wasn’t quite as good as it used to be. Mind you, it’s a dining room on the back end of a bar, but for a full hearty lunch on a workday. It was fine. Business men from nearby came in as did blue collar types,(myself) and all were welcome. Two lunch specials on this Wednesday, Chicken Cacciatore and Meatloaf on mashed potatoes. Went for the comfort food, the meatloaf. Way more than one should eat for lunch, served with a soup or salad, did the minestrone. Also came with a basket of fresh Genova french bread. So who’s to say what is as good as we like to remember. Well worth my lunch buck.
