This is really a one horse operation… Randall, the bartender, was the ‘horse’, doing all the duties. Greeter, server, order taker, busboy, bartender… he did it all! He did a great job at what he does. Friendly and attentive. On to the restaurant. This bar/grill is inside the Clarion out on Waterloo Road just east of 99. The entrance is on the west side or you can go through the main hotel entrance. I arrived 20 minutes after they opened. The place was dead. I asked Randall about that. He said the bar would be hoppin’ later. Only about 4 tables for dinner in the corner of the bar section. There is a ‘main’ dining room next to the bar but they use it mainly for breakfast… free if you are staying at the hotel or anybody can order off of the menu. The dinner menu was sparse. A couple of steaks and chicken done a couple of different ways. Randall said that I could also order off of the lunch menu which had a few more choices. Ordered the french dip and fish and chips. Prices were around $ 7 to $ 8. Food was on par with Dennys. The french dip sandwich was on the small side… could have used a heftier french roll and a bit more meat. The au jus was more like brown water… needs to have a lot stronger flavor. The deep-fried fish filets were ok… a bit on the greasy side and typical frozen fish. The fries were good. They were the coated kind and had a decent seasoning sprinkled on them. Coleslaw came with the fish and chips. Actually pretty good. I’m sure it was mixed up fresh in batches as they need it. Happy hour Mon thru Fri 5pm to 7pm I ‘might’ stop here again for a quick lunch… but would not go out of my way to do so. I am curious what goes on in the bar later in the evening… just might have to check it out some time!

I also went here with a coupon. After finding out that it was actually in the hotel, we walked in around noon for lunch. There was one party in the dining room and one couple at the bar. We sat at the bar for over 15 minutes without a bartender or server coming in at all. We started to feel a little«weirded out». After we looked over the menu and found nothing that sounded«fresh» we left and threw away the coupon. Not worth the effort to drive out there.

Before you go, please note that the area isn’t exactly the safest to be. It’s on Waterloo, behind the freeway. Also, note the time of day you decide to dine in. Make sure the hours are right for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. This restaurant is attached to a hotel, so you have to drive around to the back to see the entrance. The«grill» is separate from the bar. It’s pretty spacious. The bar is more homey. They have darts, pool, and lots of beer. Smokers go outside. Just FYI. I’m not a bar type of person.

Went here with a coupon…figured worth a try with the discount. Between all of us we ordered the spaghetti/meatball/g-bread special, the chicken avacado bacon sandwich, the chicken fingers appetizer, and the cheeseburger with Jack, Bacon, Avacado. The Service was excellent. The waitress was very personable, pleasant, and concerned about our experience. The burger was the best of what we had. The patty was large, but appeared prepressed/frozen. There was a good grilled flavor to it. Ordered it med-well, arrived well done-note order medium. The chicken sandwich was slightly overcooked therefore could have been jucier. There wasn’t much flavor, so I’d suggest more seasoning. Otherwise the bun and other toppings were good. The spaghetti special was pricey($ 12), but was abundant. There were 12 meatballs, roughly 1″ diameter, which also seemed precooked/frozen. The sauce had decent flavor and it was served over angel hair pasta. The chicken fingers had a decent seasoning, but again continued the theme of pre-made frozen type food. At one point I tasted a flavor like past-date oil. We all thought the fries were good and were of the battered variety. It was a pleasant experience as the server was awesome, however the food doesn’t leave me longing to return.
