The Reserve at Spanos Park Golf Course

This review is for the events center, not the golf course. I had my Mother’s celebration of life party on November 8, 2015. Andrea and her staff made the planning a snap. We picked out a menu, appetizers, table settings, all pretty much done in a short amount of time. They also provided a PA system, podium, and projector at no additional charge. They also have an overhead speaker system that you can plug your smart phone in and play background music over your gathering. The food was excellent and they were also able to provide a full bar for my guests. For someone like myself who is not into micro managing every small detail, Andrea and her staff can get it done and if you ARE into micro managing, they have an infinite amount of choices, linen colors, napkin colors, center piece selections. It was important that my guests had a great time and Andrea and the events staff delivered.

. I call this course the gem of the valley. I have a 30 mile rule (unless for business) as I live in Elk Grove and wont drive more than 30 miles to play golf — therefore I play The Reserve @ Spanos, Teal Bend, Turkey Creek, Empire & any Lincoln Course

Regardless; great greens, great fairways, challenging holes and overall a golfers sanctuary.
All you haters out there — DONT COME TO PLAY HERE as I can play, play fast, enjoy myself & not have to deal with your BS

Excellent driving range! Golf shop has minimal items for women, but such a beautiful course and clubhouse!

Why are the sprinklers on every time we play in the morning? We call the club house, speak to Ashlee, and she tells us they’ll get it turned off but their customer service is soooo poor that nothing gets done.
Week after week, we pay $ 49 to play while the sprinklers are turned on– Absolutely poor customer service.
Avoid playing in the morning! This place has the worse customer service for a high end golf course (high end for stockton) that I’ve ever seen. How hard is it to program the sprinklers to turn on during the night???

Overrated. This place is a links style course with a lot, A LOT of bunkers and waste areas. The problem is the bunkers need sand, they are so thin you can’t hit a true sand shot out of them. You end up basically guessing how to hit your ball from the bunkers.
For your money you get a better round at Elkhorn or Swenson Park. For a links style course you can drive up the road a ways and play Bartley Cavanaugh (for less money, though it’s less challenging) or a much better links course at Empire Ranch in Folsom.

I have not ever in my life receive a poor services in this establishment. At the planner was nice at first after wards wasn’t at all. I was refer to this place my friend who knew the chef.
I’m planning a 50^th wedding anniversary for my pastor and his wife, this should be very smooth ride, but it wasn’t The chef was awesome, he try to help but it all came down Banquet office.
I when I was given very good price on the buffet, later I ask about the children under 12, she stated $ 25.99 which the same price as the adult. Then she mention chicken strips/​fries $ 14.95, which i found is not include the salad or veggie or was it a buffet.
She keep on reminding me that I have a good deal, which I didn’t disagree.
One thing I didn’t like was her wanting me sign the contact and telling that haven’t met my quote of guests. So, by charging the children under 12, adult prices. Wow! On top that she assumed that I wanted a free taste test and goes on stating that other places doesn’t offer taste test and etc… I want some information but what I got was bunch lip.
What made even worse was that I call her manager on Thursday afternoon (no return call), Friday, twice but no return call. So, I spoke to the chef and he told me that he never receive my calls. Which is is lie. The only way I got call from the manager was the chef supervisor spoke to him. he did call, but i was on other line and he left message, which only couple minutes I return his call. Got his voice-​mail box and that was Monday sat 11:53am, left message, not return call. So, you can tell me that so unprofessional.
Very disappointed with this place of the CUSTOMER SERVICE regarding the banquet offices personnel. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS place for any banquets or weddings, unless you paid full price than they will treat you WELL.

This review is for the golf course. Great test of golf – very wide open fairways (no trees) but around the greens is where it becomes a challenge. Not only are the greens fairly large, but they are also on the faster side. So if you are in the wrong part of the green, 3 putts can fill up your scorecard.
Greens are always in great shape, but as with any course that’s been hit by the economy, the fairways show some wear and tear, along with small areas of dead spots.
I think the course is very fair in that there are 4 tee boxes for all all abilities, and there’s a great mix of long and short holes. There are holes that fit right-​to-​left shot shapes, and others that fit left-​to-​right shot shapes, so its equal for both lefties and righties.
Its a sand-​based course, so the drainage is great. You will hardly ever find soggy damp areas. One other note: wind is ALWAYS a factor on this course (about 5 – 10 MPH), so lots of times there’s a 1 – 2 club difference in the actual yardage.
Perfect mix between a muni and a private golf course. Its a nicer course that you can go to if you want to play something a step up but not want to drive out of town for.
In can get pretty busy on the weekend mornings, so dont expect to play in less than 4h 30m.

Poor! The staff look like they roll at of bed. 1. The shirts are not tucked in.
2. The shirts are not ironed.
3. They are wearing sneakers, even the manager.
4. The females staff put their hair in a ponytail without combining through.
5. I can say more but the Olive Garden would have been better.

I, like probably many others, was kind of deterred by playing here because of some of the poor reviews. Some of the previous reviews are just kind of petty and arent really reviewing the course at all. So heres my first experience with this place.
Layout: The course is very fun. Some definite visual tricks that mess with your depth perception. A shot that looks 120ish was actually 155+, etc. In no way am very long off the tee but the course seemed fairly short leaving very good chances for scoring opportunities. Better bring your A game and have your short game dialed in because these greens can eat you up. The fairways can seems narrow from the tee box with lots of lateral hazards and water but leave you with plenty of grass to work with. Bunkers are strategically placed and many greens are well guarded making your approaches difficult.
Greens: FAST! Did I mention they were fast? Theyre fast. They dont hold shots very well so choose your approach wisely. These are probably fastest greens Ive played in this area (compared to Stevinson, Diablo, TCC, etc) but thats just my personal opinion.
Condition: For mid-​march, the course was in excellent condition. Green throughout, fairways neatly trimmed and the rough not too long. One thing I noticed is that the fairways were fairly firm so you’ll get a few good kicks and rolls with your shots.
My only complaint was the speed of play. Not sure if the course was just overbooked for the day or what but the front-​9 was quiet the waiting game on some holes. Nothing too bad tho. As for the price of this place, I felt that it was a steal. Booked on GolfNow for 37.50 (a price i regularly see) for a noon tee time which is great price, IMO. I agree it does get very windy so consider taking an extra club. However, any course in the stockton area is going to be windy because of the delta so just deal with it.
My bottom line, great course, great condition and I will be returning soon. Dont be deterred by some of the other reviews on here.

i had the pleasure of attending a wedding at the Reserve not only as a guest but as a bridesmaid. Emily the wedding coordinator was truly amazing! the whole day was organized, the vendors came together and had everything ready in a timely manner, and the food was delish.
they had a pasta salad with a sweet n tangy vinaigrette, a veggie medley, green salad with ranch or Italian dressings, prime rib, chicken, and rolls with butter all set up in a double sided buffet for faster serving. there was ample space for the buffet line, head table, beer/​wine bar, cake table, gift table, and sign in area with the dance floor set up in the middle of the room.
as soon as i get access to pictures i’ll share them along with the beautiful draping done as the room accent. i don’t know first hand prices and such, but as a guest the event was beautiful, and all staff i had contact with were very helpful and nice to work with.

I love this place. It’s quiet, peaceful and perfect for a wedding whether it be a ceremony or reception. When your there it feels like your in a whole different place yet your literally only a minute away from I-​5. Can’t wait to return and do another wedding at The Reserve!

Located in Stockton. this course is a links style with water and bunkers. Known for being designed by the owner of the SD Chargers
Holes: 7. I would say the layout is average. the holes are all straight forward. depending on the wind it can be easy or hard. Favorite holes are number 2. a par 5 with water running on the left for the second and third shot. thats a hard hole. number 7 is a par 4 with a challenging second shot with water on the right.
Holes 9 and 18 are almost identical except one takes a draw and other a fade. not really a memorable hole to finish a round. .
Greens: 10. very good greens. feels like pga tour. If you dont hit your spot you might end up in the water.
Scenery: 7. there are dunks and view of diablo mt in the distance.
Service 8. marshalls are strict and service is great.
Fun Factor 8: the course is a challenge for the average golfer. getting par out there makes it worth it. However if its windy or cold. you feel sad.

I have played this course many times over the years. The greens can be wicked fast and roll true. Though flat, the course is challenging and each hole is memorable in it’s own right. It is a links style course with few trees. In the summer the course runs hard and fast with well struck tee shots rolling out for extra distance. In the winter it drains decently.
The hardest hole on the course is 17. It plays long with water down the right and OB on the left. Choose your poison. The green is canted toward the water making approach shots dangerous.
Hole 2, a par 5, starts off with a wide open fairway. But on the layup the water on the left forces you to think right. But strategically placed at 140 to 110 yrds is a large bunker. Taking out a 3 wood to get past it brings the water left into play. Laying up to 150 plus makes the approach to a green, fronted by a large bunker with the lake sidling up the left side, daunting.
they have thought out the holes well. There are many «members» whom you will notice dancing around a bit to find a better pace of play. But the staff is friendly and the food in the restaurant is ⁴⁄₅ stars as well.

I had my wedding ceremony at the Reserve at Spanos Park. It turn out lovely. Jackie the coordinator was great. She made sure everything went as plan, and was a joy to work with. She has the personality that makes you even happier to be plan

I would give higher score if the service for food and beverages did not suck so much. The course and driving range is awesome. The only problem with this course is the lack of mature trees for shade when it’s blazing hot, during the summer months.
So about the service… before the turn I used my cell phone to call in our order like the sign said. I ordered 3 hot dogs. No problem said the person ont he receiving end. Come to the turn, my boyfriend went in to pick up the order. First, there was noone there to even talk to, then someone there said, what order? They only had 1 hot dog ready so we had to wait for the other 2. During this time, the group behind us decided to jump in front even though they had nowhere to go. We got back in time to tee off the 10^th. After the round, I wanted to have a glass of wine, so we went to in and sat at the bar. There were 2 people behind the bar, doing their best to ignore us. Finally one lady says, oh have you not ordered? No, I mean, there is nothing in front of us. We finally got our drinks. Another group sat near us and they waited and waited, finally one of them spoke up real loud and asks, are you pouring beer today?
For a wonderful course to have such shitty service is unthinkable. I am not going to go out of my way to golf here again.

Played in a tournament here on 4÷4÷09. The course is in exceptional condition all the way from tee to green. Greens were impressively fast, the downside being that they refuse to hold a shot. Even «perfect» shots would end up rolling off the green. Given that some greens are directly adjacent to water, this is much more punitive than one might think. We didn’t see a single dead spot on any fairways, bunkers were raked with plenty of sand and tee boxes were mostly level.
It’s a 127 from the Back tees. (They won’t let you play the Championship tees if they don’t know your game.) However, it felt like the course played a little harder than that. One important tip, if you can’t see the fairway in front of you, drive up and take a look before you tee off. There is a good chance there is water ahead.
The staff was very pleasant and helpful. Range balls are included in the greens fees which is a great perk. All courses should do this. They had great food, cart service and a number of marshalls watching the pace.
The only downside is that the course is very forgettable. None of the holes has any real character to it. If not for the fact that the water is on different sides, you might swear that the 9^th hole and the finishing 18^th hole were one and the same. Keep in mind, the designers took a dead flat field and did they best they could to dig out a golf course. That aside, it’s a nice facility, especially considering it’s located in Stockton.

I came here for my aunts 70^th birthday celebration. The club house where the party was held was nice. The food provided by the club was your standard buffet fare and satisfying for a hungry crowd. but I was oh so happy my cousins brought in a «lechon» (roasted Filipino pig) to round out the buffet table. I don’t think any of the servers knew how to carve the darn thing because when I walked in cousin Rudy had an apron on carving delicious chunks of pork off the pig carcass. After dinner the disco ball started turning and the music started playing and the aunts and uncles started line dancing to Achy Breaky Heart.
Overall the waitstaff was very attentive at the buffet tables and wandering through the room clearing off plates, filling water glasses. and passing out birthday cake. The three stars is for the limited selection at the bar and light pours of the bartenders. If another family party is hosted here I will be bringing my own bottle of Grey Goose.
