Two stars for the food, tastes okay, nothing spectacular. Few things that makes me rating this low are: 1) want to order a roll on their menu with fresh scallop, they says no fresh scallop(happened twice with different visit)…that’s a no no. 2) uni nigri? «Sorry we don’t have uni.» That’s a big no no. 3) biggest no no from me and my hubby was their services. Their server selectively offered free edamame to different table. My table and table next to me didn’t get it. Party of three came in after us got it; another party of 6 came in didn’t get it; then another party of 5 came in was offered right away. I asked the server about it, and she said«oh, it’s only a small sample, do you still want it?» Wtf, I know it’s a small free appetizer, not expecting you give me a whole plate to fill me up, but what the heck was that response? Made me feels like I am very frugal if I says yes I want it. Dude I just want to be treated equal. At that point, a good customer service would have just apologize and just bring me the damn edamame rather than that response! For that, I am not going back again. There are many food places to choose from, I don’t have to go back to a place that made us feel uncomfortable to begin with.

The bf and I stopped by Toyo Sushi on the way back home to Sacramento and I found this place on Unilocal. This place deserves the rating that it has. The restaurant is located in a small shopping center that has a Raley’s gas station, cigarette shop, Subway, and Starbucks. Upon entering the restaurant, we were immediately greeted and seated. The man who seated us, I believe he was the owner just based off of the descriptions that I am reading on Unilocal was very friendly and welcoming. We were brought drinks and while we were browsing the menu and trying to figure out which sushi rolls to order, the man came back and asked if we were ready to order or needed any recommendations. We asked him for recommendations and he asked us what kinds of rolls we liked: raw or cooked? Spicy or not spicy? After figuring out our preferences, he suggested JJ’s special, Bonsai, and the Hawaii roll. JJ’s special is not on the menu and is supposed to be their spiciest roll. It comes with jalapeño, habanero, and Thai chili peppers! This roll also has cilantro in it which you don’t normally find in rolls. I enjoyed this roll and thought it had a Southeast Asian influence. It was very good so don’t be scared to order it because it honestly was not spicy. It was more like mild. Bonsai was a roll that had breaded deep fried shrimp, asparagus, crab mayo inside, tuna, salmon, avocado tobiko, and onion on top. This roll was just as flavorful and delicious. Once again, this one has an unusual ingredient that you wouldn’t normally find in a sushi roll and that is the asparagus. The asparagus was cooked really well, thank god it wasn’t like raw crunchy or that would have ruined the roll. Hawaii roll consists of tuna, salmon, yellow tail, cream cheese, green onion, and spicy sauce. This one tasted very fresh and yummy. The owner came by a couple more times just to check up on us and to see how the food was. Overall, the sushi that was recommend and brought to us was delicious, affordable, ingredients were fresh, and the service was super fast and friendly! Not to sound like a fatty, but we literally spent only 15 minutes at the restaurant and we even ate three rolls. That was how fast the rolls came out! You know how I know this? I checked to see when I checked into Unilocal when I first got there. Definitely check this place out when you’re in the area!

This place is delicious! Great service and a wide selection of choices. We had the Hawaii roll and the green dragon. The green dragon is by far my favorite. Service was cheerful and I was offered water while I waited for my takeout order.

Tried about 8 — 10 rolls. It was tasty and affordable about $ 8 — $ 15. Most of the rolls are similar in presentation and taste. Wasn’t a fan of beast and crunchy rainbow. The sashimi platter had escolar. which isn’t a good quality fish. Might want to ask which fish will be on the platter before ordering.

Were told about this place from another team parent. What a find! Ordered the spicy tuna, red dragon and another with tempura scallop on top. Fresh, flavorful and delish. Hubby got chicken katsu which was yummy and daughter loved her sushi as well. This is a must stop and eat at in Stockton!

Good sushi, the beast roll was good. Will be back again. Good tuna sashimi portion, and fresh fish.

Customer service is always amazing here. Depending on who the sushi chef is the food quality fluctuates, but the sashimi is always on point as the owner makes sure to buy fresh fish everyday himself. He takes pride in the quality of his product and it shows.

A mark of a good sushi restaurant is their rice. Sushi rice should not just be steamed, it is sweet and sour. Toyo presents their sushi with excellently prepared rice and fresh ingredients. The owner JJ is almost always there. He is very friendly and watches out for your interests while enjoying a meal at his establishment. One of the sushi chefs is Jimmy, whose family used to own the Kikusui. His influence is strong and their sushi is reminiscent of the Kikusui’s. For those who remember that place, you know what I mean. Suffice it to say that their sushi is authentic Japanese style. I like nigiri sushi. Their happy sushi special is amazeballs. For those who prefer specialty rolls, they have a selection that should appease the most picky and discerning sushi connoisseur. We in Stockton have some fantastic sushi restaurants, and I certainly count Toyo as one of the best in California.

Came here today looking for a new sushi restaurant to go to other than the usuals. It was a nice change! We ordered the Spiderman roll, the Unagi Maki, and the Reno roll. The Spiderman roll was way too heavy with too much sauce, and was sprinkled with cashews, which I found interesting. I didn’t taste the cashews much because the sauce was a bit too overpowering, but the texture of the cashews along with the rest of the roll was a bit … weird. And too Americanized, in my opinion. The Unagi Maki was a smaller dish, and I thought their rice was a little too sour(probably because they used sushi rice). It didn’t go well with the unagi. The Reno roll was alright, however, there was barely any salmon and tuna slices on top of the rolls — it was mostly a California roll. My boyfriend(who loves sushi) was not impressed with the rolls. The service was very friendly! It was a welcoming environment. And the waitress and waiter were patient with us when we have ordered and then changed our minds. The restaurant was in an odd location(at the corner facing inside of a plaza). It’s right across from the Starbucks there!

Nice little spot to eat. Right off the freeway & located at the corner of a plaza with plenty of natural light in contrast to the more dim sushi restaurants I’m used to. I haven’t had anything I didn’t like yet and I usually order«The Beast» roll. It has plenty of meat(Steak) and just a mouth full of flavor every bite.

We ended up here because it was one of the few places that was open at 3pm. Everything we ordered was really good but I especially liked the Golden Crunch Roll! It was perfect too because we caught happy hour. They also have some really good After School deals that start at 2pm. The servers were all really nice and the service was great! It was nice of them to accommodate our little birthday cake surprise for our friend too :) It is a little bit of a drive from UOP and it was a bit tough to find because it’s tucked away in the plaza by Starbucks. I’ll definitely be back though! :)

I don’t know what the high ratings are about. It’s in my neighborhood, so I go when I don’t want to drive too far for sushi. and every single time I come in and receive my food, regret and disappointment overcome me. The portions are small for the price. it’s like receiving half of a roll. They skimp on the fish and it’s like eating more rice than anything. Maybe it’s just me that gets the shitty skimpy rolls, I don’t know… but there’s better sushi houses in Stockton that I’d pay extra for better quality and drive further for.

First off, I’m a sushi snob. But I’m also NOT a traditionalist. I love American style sushi. I have been to just about every sushi spot in Stockton, to include CocoRo, Raw, Sho-mi, domo, shogun, Misaki, and countless others. I gave up on Stockton sushi and would drive to Mikuni’s in Sacramento, 2 – 3 times a month to satisfy my addiction. That is… until I found Toyo. This place is the best by far. The owner J.J., makes you feel like you are a part of the Toyo family from the start. The service is always great. The roll selection is large and the sashimi is the freshest and the pieces are the fattest in town. If you want advice on a roll, the JJ Special roll, the incredible roll, the beast roll are all great selections. Try the spicy edamame for an appetizer. Come for happy hour between 3 and 5 and get 20% off common rolls and save on some Sapporo. You can’t go wrong with Toyo Sushi.

Great sushi spot for Stockton! I’ve seen 4.5 star sushi places that I have been terribly unimpressed with, but I have to say that this place surprised me. Toyo is located in a strange little strip mall, next to a gas station, but the inside is clean and spacious. My friend and I came for lunch, and we ordered the Spider Man and Bad Boy specialty rolls. Both were great, with a good rice to fish ratio. Note: the Spider Man roll was huge! Get ready to share! Service was very fast and friendly. Coming back soon to try the sashimi!

Note: They require your PIN number if you use a debit card to pay. Food was good, flavor was on point but the portions were out of proportions! And not in a good way. A $ 15 roll is pretty much an average size roll whereas at other restaurants a $ 15 roll would be enormous. Service was good. We got there and it was not rush hour so we got all of our food rather quickly. However, please stop serving tap water. Restaurants are required to filter their water! Another thing, your crunchy scallop roll uses the same breading as your potato croquettes? That scratched the roof of my mouth. Would not order again.

Nobody in the area does it like Toro Sushi. Been here a million times(ok, probably about 25 – 30 times). Recently had salmon skin appetizer w ponzu. TO. DIE. FOR. And the agadashi tofu was just perfect… of course amongst the many rolls we ordered, the must have every time MEXICAN roll

Toyo sushi is a great place for Sushi in Stockton. Sushi is very flavorful & presented cleanly. Also, their customer service is delightful. They are very welcoming and are eager to serve you. The prices are decently priced and the same as anywhere else. The con is the location of the sushi place. It’s in a unrecognized corner and the parking lot is nit and small.

Very attentive service. Everyone seems nice and friendly here, which is always the most important thing to me. Food was also pretty tasty. Got the red dragon and miso soup. Not a bad experience! It was a little slow when I went but that was around 1:30/2:00 ish? Will be back to try out more of their menu though!

My boyfriend was raised in Stockton. Specifically this part of Stockton so no, he doesn’t fit that hood stereotype. Toyo sushi sits in a newer shopping center which also houses Raleys and a Panda Express. When I saw that a sushi spot had opened up in this plaza, I was pretty excited. Excited up until we got our food. We ordered two rolls and the fried calamari appetizer. To be honest, their menu is pretty small with very little to choose from. I was pretty unimpressed. The service was pretty slow, the food was mediocre, and I’m surprised the place is still in business. I don’t think we would ever come back considering Stockton has great sushi restaurants like Raw and Kyodai.
