Stockton spent a lot of money refurbishing this area and the result is very scenic. There is lots of grassy area, a huge tarp covered event center and water fountains in the big concreted deck area with kids playing in the hot months. The waterway leading up to the park is a good place for a stroll, especially on warm summer evenings. This is the prided of the city and the city can afford to be proud to offer this place for people to enjoy.

This place is pretty nice! We came here this past saturday to bring my son to the water fountains to play in the water as it was a hot day but they were closed down due to a country concert and even tho we didn’t bother to go in, we enjoyed the music and tons of people getting drunk, especially party-goers on the boats lol(Did I mention that I didn’t even like country?!) This place is pretty nice and was our first time here. I heard downtown used to be really crappy but it looks pretty cleaned up now. It’s good to take walks on the delta and the breeze was beautiful against the hot sun. They have restaurants facing the waterway where you can enjoy a relaxing time just watching the boats. My dog really enjoyed the area as well as my toddler. I will have to write a review again on the water/park area since we didn’t get to experience that as of yet.

This is the place where the Asparagus Festival, the Easter Sunrise Service and the Day of Prayer is held; just to mention a few. Complete with an amphitheater, a covered stage area with electrical hook ups, an interactive fountain that draws kids for a quick and free cool down from April through late September. It’s located at the head of the San Joaquin Delta; most nights you can expect a Delta breeze. Lots of benches and seating and grassy areas to lounge; some draw backs, few if any shade trees and in the Big Valley, that is a problem. Across the river is the Port’s Ballpark, the Stockton Arena and further west up some beautiful shaded places to moor your water vessel; now go a little further and you will see the downtown Marina; a great place to let your boat into the river for a fun day on the delta. If you want to rent the area under the sail like shaded area, be prepared to pay big and you won’t have the place to yourself. There are very few times, including the Asparagus Fest, where the park is not open to the public. Check the link for more details.
