I can’t speak for the wonens services in the back but I’ve always gotten a decent cut when I’ve come here. It’s not the best but not the worst either. If your in the area head over but for me my quest continues for a good barber.

So you are looking to get your hair pressed by the Dominican’s hunh? Well, before I discovered Too Groovy Salon & Spa I used to go the Dominican’s. Since most of them have similar hair texture to African American women, they know the best way to press/straighten African American hair. Tru Kutz is a barber shop/salon. The salon area is very small and has only 3 workstations for their stylist. This is the salon I used to go to when I was in need of a press. They use really good products considering your press will cost anywhere from $ 35 — $ 50 depending on the length and texture of your hair. The Dominicans are great for pressing hair, but that is it. Do NOT expect them to be able to style your hair, mimic a hairstyle from a hair book, or listen to you explain what hairstyle you want because they do not speak good English. Even if they shake their head and say, «Si, you want bang in front and curl in back», you will get whatever they give you! So please don’t be disappointed or surprised. They straightened, and I styled when I got home. They are very friendly people but do not underestimate them. This Haitian/Spanish mix of people will get at you(in Spanish) just as fast as anyone else. Never upset the person with hot curlers near your face! I loved coming to Tru Kutz because it was conveniently located to my house, it was cheap, and the service was friendly. I stopped going because the heat used was a little too much for my hair, the wait was too long, and the inconsistency in stylist. Just as I would get to like my hairstylist, the next appointment she would be gone. Key advice: «Doobie wrap» — means roller wrap and if you do not like your hair, pay, don’t tip, and leave, because Dominicans will take threats and attitude seriously!
