Very unhappy with the way my project was handled. I wanted to add a 2nd floor to my home, and originally, hired Avalon to do the project from start to finish. There were several issues that arose, which while were not all directly caused by Avalon, they were mainly caused by the structural engineer, Mr. Fennell, who was brought in by Avalon. Because of these issues, our budget kept growing, and ended up being way more that we anticipated. Also, because of these issues, everything was delayed by months. I wish Mr. Fennells’ company was on Unilocal, but alas, it’s not. Zero stars for him would be actual praise. We hired Avalon for the entire project, which was the 2nd floor addition, and then remodeling the entire house, but had to cut it short, and go with another company as we were way over budget, and our our 6 month construction loan was about to end. So Avalon installed the 2nd floor, and did all the structural work, and we hired another company to come in and finish the rest of the remodel. We initially were planning to move in by beginning of school year, but ended up moving in by December. Needless to say, this was a huge inconvenience, as we have 3 kids. Now to be fair, the references provided by Avalon were happy with their work. All three references were new construction. So my guess is, Avalon probably does good work when building a house from scratch. Also, their main point of contact(foreman, PM, main guy on the ground) Dale, was great — no complaints about him. Very knowledgeable, and really, just trying to do what he can, to fix a bad situation. The other positive thing was, Avalon had no objections when I requested that I bring in my own plumber, electrician, siding guys — which helped me save on my budget quite a bit. So if you’re thinking new construction, Avalon might well be up to the task, but I wouldn’t know — my house is older, and near water, which caused a lot of problems down the road — which were missed or overlooked when the initial plan was put into place.
