I grew up a town over, and Mur-Mac’s was an institution. Roast beef is ruined for me; it’ll just never measure up to a simple Mur-Mac’s sandwich with A1. The toasted buns were always perfectly done: soft and buttery on the inside and lightly crispy around the edges. The meat was so rare, I’m surprised we never heard it moo. And the fries… oh, the fries. The place was grungy and kinda creepy, but that was part of the charm. A few years go, I was meaning to go back for the first time in a long time. Kept putting it off. Then, one day, it was closed, and now the epic roast beef sandwich is only a memory.

I agree Mur Mac’s is delicious, period. I would say even the best roast beef sandwich ever. But, good luck trying to get out of the place with a sandwich and a soda for under Ten bucks. **Update** Out of business, building for sale. The end of an era, the prices just got too damn high! RIP Mur-Mac.

My father and I will go here when we’re in the area… its a classic spot! I remember splitting roast beef sandwiches here with my brother when I was only 4 or 5 years old(I once burned my hand on the fan they have in the dining area in the back — it hurt! My own damn fault though, since my dad told me not to be touching things and I did anyways). I loved them then; I love them now! The bread is toasted and soft, the roast beef always sooooo tasty. Never over or under cooked, just pink enough, mmmmmm. I get the jr roast beef with a small soda and I’m full enough, my dad gets the larger size with the fries and a milkshake. We both go home happy. Not too far from 24, but its convenience suffers in that it’s a random spot. I crave these sandwiches when I’m not in southeastern Mass.
