We’ve been back several times now. It just gets better for us. First, you must meet Heinz, a true restauranteur who knows his game. Then, order the raclette cheese dish as an appetizer. The fondues were delicious, particularly the beef fondue. Melts in your mouth. All topped off with chocolate fondue for dessert(use your spoon to eat the extra chocolate from the bowl). Portions just right. Each dish could be a meal, so pace yourself. We ordered the Dole wine. A bit expensive but truly a Swiss treat for us. — Skip & Mac B.

I come from Belgium and I used to travel to France and Switzerland for skiing. We love to eat a big and tasty cheese fondue with friends. We were so excited to eat one tonight. But it was the worst cheese fondue I have ever eat. First of all, the bread was fresh… First mistake. It should be a little bit crousty to become soft with the heat and the cheese. After that, the cheese had a weird tast… This fondue is served with a salad… It is a small one with a dressing from a bottle. The same one that you can buy at Gristedes… My husband asked a chinese fondue. He only received 6 rolls of meat with 4 spoons of sauce(one spoon for each taste). If you want more, you have to pay for it… So believe me, just with that he was starving! The meal cost $ 30 on the menu. Anyway, I know how it is in Europ and trust we this is REALLYNOT A REALCHEESEFONDUE!!!

Probably the worst fondue exerperience ever. Travelling from Europe, expectations can be high but honestly, that was expensive and taste badly. Bread was too fresh for a fondue, cheese tasted bad and wine wasn’t great either. Notmally, you would expect some sides with the fondue but that was so minimalist… For 30 $ you should receive some meat, pickles, apples or whatever that would make it a nice meal an experience. Inwas very excited and finally, very disapointed

The problem with reviewing this restaurant is that«Heinz» is so damn friendly and welcoming that it makes it hard to critique what amounts to absolutely terrible food. I was really disappointed because I thought the fondue would resemble the Swisspot, which used to be across the street, or other fondues I have had in Switzerland and France. Alas, no. The classic cheese fondue was awful– some sort of gloppy white stuff that didn’t seem like proper melted cheese(should have had gruyère). In fact– it wasn’t served over a burner or proper flame to keep it warm. I thought this was strange. Just a tea light was provided. Normal, real cheese fondue would begin to firm up, but this strange white gloppy substance never did! It was like some sort of white cheese whiz. I still have no idea what was in the pot, but it wasn’t cheese fondue, and it did not taste good. Still desperately hungry, we then ordered the raclette. It is hard to fudge raclette, because it is served with sliced raclette cheese and a set of metal trays over a flame. The customer melts the cheese at the table and serves it over potatoes, pickles, veggies, etc. This was a MAJOR disappointment when it came out. There was no raclette set. The cheese came out already melted from the microwave and hardening on the sliced potatoes. No other accompaniments, and maybe not even real raclette cheese. This was such an odd and terrible experience.

Heinz the owner greeted us and spent a good portion of our night talking with us. He even sang Happy Birthday with us for my daughter’s birthday. I don’t think you can say many owners do that. He bussed the table, played the role of host and explained the quality of the food too. If you are comparing this place to traditional US fondue, then you are way off. This is no Melting Pot! It’s better. You will pay a premium price for the food, but the quality is worth it. We all shared three cheese fondue dishes and we all ordered the filet mignon. The meat was so tender, it melted in your mouth. In addition, each meal is served with a salad with a house made yogurt based dressing which was delicious! My mouth is watering just writing this review. We traveled far(Florida) and were not disappointed.

The food potion was extremely small. An entrée of beef/shrimp contain 6 shrimps and 3 pieces of thin slices of beef. As an slim Asian, I felt I have to order 3 – 4 entrees to be full. Beef smelled like my husband’s armpit after three days without shower.

Having been to Switzerland regularly for business and pleasure, I can honestly tell you that there is probably no better place to go an authentic fondue experience. I never visit Stowe without stopping at this place. Make reservations though… its a small and intimate venue and you won’t want to miss it.

Funky, cozy little place. It’s the offseason so it was completely dead, and completely quiet inside other than some thematic music, but when Heinz came in, he brought life into the place. We only stopped for a crêpe for dessert but I wish we’d come for fondue, they really seem to do it up properly here!

We were so happy to find a fondue place like we had found up in Quebec for one of our mini honey moon weekends. We dressed up since it was our one year anniversary and even made a reservation. We arrived early, excited to have a possible experience like we had up north. We were seated near the kitchen so I was able to peek into some of the going ons. The nice waitress showed us the menus and offered a drink. I asked for a white wine and my husband just a water. I also asked for one of the two appetizers that showcased their cheese. We received our drinks and as I took a sip of my very small portion of wine, I peered into the kitchen to see our nice waitress taking something out of the microwave and then bring it to us… our cheese appetizer. Since when did good cheese deserve a microwave??? Answer: Never! I kept this info to myself knowing that would appall my other half to no end. The taste was of a cheese that I could pick up at Hannaford, and a very bland cheese at that. Neither of us made any signs of amazement as we picked at the pickles and onions that swam in the small plate Sighs! Main course. We opted for the cheese fondue. The other options didn’t have anything we were craving. Not to compare, but in Quebec we were served not just bread pieces, but also apple and amazing several varieties of cured meat. Just having bread with cheese was not what I would call interesting or equal to a meal feeling. The cheese had too much wine and again the cheese lacked any amazing notes. We also felt rushed. There is a balance between a feeling like you have to wait forever to eat and being forced through their table rotation. That balance is a good dining experience and it’s not very hard to achieve. I didn’t feel like there was time to relax and appreciate the dimly lit room. They never talked about their cheese, where it came from, or why they chose the cheese. We left quietly and disappointed.

So great. Heinz cares so much about his customers. Worth every penny. You will eat slow, savor good conversation and enjoy yourself. You won’t regret taking time out.

A while back I stopped into Black Cap Coffee on a day that Heinz was making crepes. While driving by another day, I noticed the Swiss Fondue sign now includes the same famous name and I decided to drop in for lunch. When I was finished and awesome filet and onion crêpe, Heinz came to my table and said«you should come back for dessert crepes». When I asked how late he stayed open he said«it doesn’t matter. Sometimes 8, sometimes 9, I’m open until whenever people feel like leaving. I love Heinz’s attitude, his attention to his customers, and the relaxing atmosphere he has created in this little gem downtown Stowe.

My husband and I have been coming to Stowe for 20 years. We saw this restaurant and thought why not? We’ll the vicysoise was excellent. The crepes were superb and we even found room for the decadent chocolate crêpe dessert. I highly recommend this restaurant. He in is a delight and his staff is very attentive. I’ve never had crepes this thin!!! Without a doubt we’re going back. A little pricey but well worth it. Read the menu before you go in.

Always looking for something different. This is it. Went for lunch on a summer afternoon. Attracted as much by a parking lot in busy downtown Stowe than anything else. Was greeted by Heinz in the parking lot lot and when I asked if he was open, of course. The menu for crepes was reasonable with something for everyone. They were huge. We had the potato leek soup which was fabulous. We finished with a huge Chocolate crêpe, also fabulous. No one needed dinner that night. The only score down was that the wine had clearly been open a day or two and was oxidized. But the service and food amazing. Highly recommend.

I really wanted to like this place. I have great memories of Stowe’s former fondue restaurant, The Swiss Pot which close several(or maybe more) years ago. Unfortunately, I was disappointed with Swiss Fondue By Heinz. The cheese fondue itself was fine. It tasted like a high quality fondue. But I was highly disappointed with the fact that this very expensive meal included only bread(many fondue places give you vegetables and even fruit) to dip into the fondue and that the amount of fondue given to us for a table of four seemed very small and exactly the same size as was given to the people sitting at a table near us who ordered the same meal for two. Given the extremely high price, we expected a lot more. We all left hungry and ended up buying ice cream across the street. It was a disappointment, and I don’t think we’ll be coming back.

Great little slice of Switzerland tucked away in Stowe. Ambience, music, and menu, and Heinz actually comes out and visits with the customers, more than just a table pass. The bread was perfect for the cheese fondue. The Raclette was so good, we got seconds. I only wish we could get the crepes at night as well. Good German beer to wash it all down was the clincher.

Family of 5 — been coming to Stowe since the early 90’s…Raising our kids to love and treasure this town. We drove for 3 hours from Boston and wanted to do something fun with our 12, 9 and 4 year olds after they had driven us nuts on the ride up with«energy»…Called up Heinz and booked a table for 5 at 6pm. Perfect opening activity to start a Stowe weekend off right. We entered and were immediately greeted by Heinz. We ordered 3 beef — 2 shrimp and 1 cheese fondue — a tiny bit too much for the 5 of us but we still ordered a chocolate fondue to polish it all off… I read some prior negative comments and I offer the following thoughts: To the person who said that the people on the phone were hard to understand: YOU need to understand that you have kind hard working people from different countries trying to deliver a superior food experience in Stowe — a little language gap is not worth a cruel comment. To the person who thought it was too expensive: his prices are posted and they are well worth the price. Next time pay attention to the menu before you order. And to the person who insulted Heinz’s wife: They married a few years ago after Heinz found his home in Stowe almost ten years ago — a long way from his homeland of Switzerland. This place is phenomenal — fun — amazing food and best of all, authentic-from-central-casting-Swiss-Alps Heinz delivering customer service in a beautiful manner. Enjoy!!!

Food was very poor in taste, the raclete was an insult, the cheese fondue lack taste and heat. This is not a restaurant that resembles the fondue or raclete.

I had a good hike on the Worcester range today and felt famished so my hiking partner and I headed down to see if some fondue would cure our appetite. We both got a cheese fondue and it was fantastic! Just what I needed. Very flavorful. We shared a chocolate fondue to top it off. I wanted to lick the bowl, but I didn’t feel appropriate. The owner Heinz is friendly and outgoing and you certainly feel like you could be in the Swiss alps. I can’t wait to come back here after a day on the slopes.
