Strawberry Inn

I took my two kids here to play in the snow. They have a great yard for it where lots of people were building snowmen and tossing snowballs. Inside, they have comfortable chairs next to a huge old fashioned fireplace. We got hot chocolates and fries from the bar and had a great time playing on the giant checker table. We stayed all day; going out to play and coming back in to warm up. The people are friendly, albeit very busy and overworked. Next time we might get a room and stay overnight.

The room was nice but I had lunch here and it is probably the worst thing that I have ever put in my mouth. I will never eat here again. EVER!

Crap food. Average bar. Avoid if possible. They closed at 9pm and wouldn’t serve another drink either. Few positives to say. They had a nice pool table…

My family and I stopped by the restaurant here after spending the day snowboarding at Dodge Ridge. It was a Sunday evening after the holidays and there was a big crowd. We got drinks at the bar, which were reasonably priced, and ended up standing around the pool table because all the tables were taken. The pool table was out of order too, which was a major bummer, since we had picked this spot specifically to come play pool.
I know we will be back though, as this is still a nice local spot to unwind after a long day on the mountain!

Went here a few days ago and was surprised by the high prices, but nevertheless we decided to eat here. I ordered the veggie burger, which was $ 9 for what appeared to be those boca veggie patties you can buy in the freezer section of the dollar store. The lettuce and tomato on my sandwich were also not fresh, and I contemplated not eating the sandwich and just leaving the restaurant. I also ordered a side of fries which tasted like they had been sitting in a freezer for years, very tasteless and the texture was awful.
Our waiter at first was fairly kind to us and treated us as a waiter should, though when it came to splitting the check between our party of four another worker denied us and in a very rude manner told us we should’ve told her earlier that we wanted to split the check and that she couldn’t undo it (excuse me, but splitting up four lunch items is not that difficult, is it??)
While we are, one of the workers began cleaning the nearby tables with some kind of chemical cleaner (perhaps Windex?), and though I am no expert in restaurant service, I don’t believe you should be cleaning tables with such a hard chemical. A damp rag with soap and water is usually enough. Anyways, the room soon smelled of chemical cleaner and being an asthmatic that I am, I had to leave the area in order to breathe normally again. Waiting for our order to be processed, I sat there taking shallow breaths, wanting to leave as soon as possible.
I will never return here. Spend your money somewhere else or you will regret it.

Stopped here over the weekend for coffee. It was a cute little spot and the server insisted it was the only stop for food and that the snow park had no food. (Not true) so we figured we’d better eat– my husband wanted to order a burger I guess it was too early because the guy insisted we order off the breakfast menu– then turned around and let the guy sitting at the bar order a burger and fries.
The kids ordered pancakes with bacon and scrambled eggs. They were pleased…
My hubby and I ordered the two egg breakfast. Our eggs were over cooked — like rubber— and our potatoes were raw. I would not likely go back to this place in the future … even the coffee was crap.

Had a wonderful experience for lunch today. This place is in a beautiful setting. Since we were a large group we were asked if it was okay to be seated outside. Covered deck, amazing scenery and the sound of the rushing water below. So relaxing ! Got even better with the service we received, constant refills for our sodas, ect. Excellent food and even reasonable prices. Doesn’t get much better !

This place screams new owners. The building looks like someone invested a lot of money and time into creating a special venue but the operations were lacking.
We stopped by for the night on our way through the Sierras after having to detour from our original route due to the fires. Our room was very clean and spacious, but oddly lacking in furnishings. There was only our queen bed, one hard chair and one bedside table in the large room. We inquired if there was another room choice with more furniture, but apparently the place is all the same. They did provide a second chair so we could both sit down at the same time. Very strange.
The bartender was very attentive and friendly. Two of the taps were out. I can understand that the restaurant is gearing down for the season. The food was just so-​so. The quality wasn’t all that great and the execution left something to be desired. The steak at dinner was sub standard, and the Strawberry Hill breakfast potatoes were just the frozen coated cubes that are deep fried, not something made in house as one might expect from the name. Just one example from each of the two meals we had there.
I’m glad that there is some infrastructure in the area for a place to stay and meals in a pinch, but our experience isn’t one we’d chose to repeat.

Food was horrible. I didn’t realize it was possible to ruin chicken alfredo. By fresh parmesan they mean powdered parm, precooked frozen chicken cubes, and the sauce was out of a can. The salmon square was beyond dry and side dishes were nothing more than a disappointment. Burger was ok. The chow hall at the kid’s summer camp put them to shame.
Only three tables occupied and service was sub par. Friendly when present. Never once refilled drinks and it took 20 min to get our check.
Bummer because they have an incredible atmosphere. Clean, well maintained facilities and the perfect location right off the river. It could have been the perfect Strawberry experience.

Where to begin? I grew up in the area and used to go to the strawberry inn when it had its old owners. I went there today for the first time and I can’t tell you how disappointed I was.
First my draft beer was warm, and I was told too bad. Then we sat at our table looking at the menu and the very rude (Russian?) waitress asked us what we wanted, we said we weren’t sure what our plan was and that we just wanted the drinks for now. She acted very offended and accused us of wasting her time since we weren’t eating.
We ended up ordering a basket of fries (for 6.95!) to give our three year old a snack. The fries showed up to our table about 45 seconds later which we thought was strange. They didn’t look edible so I tasted one before my son could eat one, it was cold and stale and I’m not kidding, they were reheated McDonald’s fries. That’s just a flavor you can’t duplicate, and according to the strawberry market accross the street we weren’t the first to notice.
We didn’t eat the fries and when we got our bill we decided to only tip a dollar because the service was mediocre at best, when I went online to check my statement they changed the tip to 5 dollars! Don’t waste your money or time. Instead go to the steam donkey, Kennedy meadows, or Mia’s!

Stopped in for lunch after a week of backpacking for a burger and beer (s). I have stayed overnight and been for lunch on other occasions. Good food and service and amazing location. If you are traveling through it is well worth the stop. Live music, pool table, good food, full bar and friendly bar tender.

Stopped here on the way back from a overnight trip through the East Sierra. Didnt stay here just a stop for breakfast after going over the moutain. Breakfast was good. Potatoes were too seasoned but still ok. Eggs and bacon where good. The waitresses were beautiful girl swith a European accent. I mean really beautiful and very courteous

We got kicked out of the Strawberry Inn? — Once upon a time the Strawberry Inn was magical. I spent many summers in that area and that Inn has provided me with great memories until… We were soaked from a storm that blew into Pinecrest Lake so I suggested we head to there for some Hot Chocolate and lunch to warm up. The hot chocolate was cold and there was something weird floating in it, like a piece of paper. My husband and I were with another couple and we ordered lunch. I specifically asked for not tomato on my cheeseburger because I am allergic and burger was delivered with a huge slice of tomato. I told the curly haired blonde man that I asked for no tomato and he wanted to argue with me telling me that that was not my meal even though it was delivered to me. After trying to politely convey my point and getting some smart mouthed man all up in my face about it, I told him «fine, please just cancel my order then»… I mean all he had to do was take the plate, remove the tomato and bun and take care of his customers but his attitude was unbelievable! He kept going on and on «FINE! WHATEVER! CANCEL THE ORDER FINE!» I couldn’t even stay in that place another minute. I told my husband and friends that I would be waiting in the car. My friends had just put money in the pool table to play pool, next thing I know they come walking out saying the man told them «You pay and you leave!» very rudely. I was shocked! This man threw the only customers they had out because he couldn’t get my burger right? He put all their meals in boxes and threw them out! We were the only people in there! So after reading all these horrible reviews its no wonder the place is dead. The new owners are Czech from what Im reading here, thats fine, but I think they want their customers to abide by their every rule otherwise you need to leave. They have ruined this place. The vibe is weird and the owners make it that much weirder. When my husband got his grilled cheese sandwich it was cold and the fries weren’t even cooked and these people are lucky I wasn’t there because when he said «You pay you leave» I would have taken that check and thrown it in his face, left the food and walked out. Too bad the new owners don’t know how to treat their customers, cook food or serve up hot drinks. Horrible feeling, horrible service, horrible food, negative vibe.

I stayed at the Strawberry Inn for Memorial Day weekend, and I liked it enough to stay there again. My room with two queen beds (sleeps up to four people) was reasonably priced and while it was nothing fancy, it was clean and included the basic amenities that you would expect — heater/​air conditioner, flat screen TV with DirecTV, coffee maker, etc. If management is reading this review, a mini fridge and a microwave would be nice additions.
If you like to fish or hike, the location of Strawberry Inn is ideal. There are several good spots along Highway 108 between the Inn and the Sonora Pass (Clark Fork Road, The Dardanelles, Donnell Lake, Kennedy Meadows). The Stanislaus River is right in your «backyard» and you can walk Old Strawberry Road down to the South Fork bridge, passing a beautiful meadow and rustic wood cabins on your way.
I was surprised by the quality of the food served by the restaurant/​bar downstairs. Breakfast was just mediocre, but their Rib Eye steak and their pizza were surprisingly good. They have a full bar, pool table, jukebox and old school arcade machine. Drinks were a little pricey — reminded me of downtown San Francisco prices — and the pours were inconsistent. The day time bartender is a strong pour, but the guy working at night (one of the owners, I think) poured one of the weakest cocktails I’ve ever had.
All in all, a good experience, and I would recommend them. One thing that is a little unusual is that they charge you half of your room charges upfront when you book, and you pay the balance when you check in. Not a big deal, but I’ve never seen (or head of) that before.

Oh,…I Heart The Strawberry Inn.
They don’t open the outside seating officially until I think Mother’s Day. But grab a drink and see if you can head out anyways. Sitting and listening to the Stanislaus is soooooo wonderful. If you hit it before 12pm, the sun shines just perfectly onto the deck.
The place is not classy at all, it puts the Inn in Inn. No cell phone coverage, nothing fancy (except maybe the cat and lone wolf T-​shirts). But it is worth the slightly further drive past Pinecrest to speak with the heavily accented Hotel California-​y inn keeper and they have some pretty good beers on draft.
Definitely on the list of «always’s» when we hit the Sierras for the weekend.

My husband and I stayed here for our Valentine’s Day get away and we were disappointed with the service we got. There was a gnat problem in our room, dead gnats in the toilet bowl, and dead gnats and hair all over the bathroom floor. There were several gnats flying around the room as well. When we brought the issue to their attention, we were simply told that they would make sure it was cleaner for us next time. They also had to close their kitchen down for a half an hour because their cook hadn’t shown up yet. So saddened by this experience, they had a lot going for them otherwise. Definitely won’t be back anytime soon.

Not a good lunch experience here at the restaurant. The location is great and the view is quite scenic, but that didn’t make up for the slow service, mediocre food, and overpriced menu. Nobody in our party of 5 enjoyed their meal. Cold french fries, undercooked batter on the fish, hard bread, missing cheese on the sandwich. won’t come back

An extremely convenient location when staying near Pinecrest or Dodge Ridge. Coffee Mocha was quickly made and excellent on a Sunday morning. As it is Fall, ski season hasn’t started, thus it was not crowded. The breakfasts all looked tasty and the Denver omelet was very well done.

Good food, room was nice but a bit old, I would recommend they renovate the place and invest in some modernization. The staff is very helpful and kind, especially Patrick, the property manager. Overall nice place to hang out for a long weekend, beautiful sights all around, ok drive from major parks.
We stayed 2 nights, one bedroom, 3 adults and an infant.
Food was really good, even the pizza which was the only choice past 8 PM when we arrived. Breakfast was great, served with decent coffee.
Room was decent, view was great actually (on the noisy mountain spring which was great of a change coming from a busy city). It was outdated though, old furniture, crappy TV, old carpets.
Staff was helpful and kind, I would say they’re quite understaffed and the manager seems to be doing most of it himself. He is super kind and does his best to help everyone.
Recommend the place to folks who are staying in the area or traveling through

Wow what a horrible second experience. The bartender was brand new and we had to point out to him a bottle of amaretto because he had no clue what it was. Then he makes the drinks wrong. The worst part was the French fries we ordered as an appetizer. There was a short black curly hair in them. We obviously decided not to eat here. I felt like vomiting. I will NEVER be back.
