I was invited to an Open Studio for all artists. It seemed like a fun idea as it suggested camaraderie with fellow artists and an evening away from you own studio. It was terrific, lots of informal casual chatter about art, art works in progress and pros & cons of various supplies, paper, tequniques etc. Laura, the owner, has a very nice and very well equiped studio at that location. This Open Studio concept was not a teaching moment but an opportunity to work on any new project that you had or a time to finish up some old paintings that needed just a few additional brush strokes. Hopefully the Open Studio will become popular and we can share with even more fellow artists. I’ll be back next time.

I attended a Laura Tarquinio class while on vacation in Stuart with a friend. Five other gals were in the Saturday night class, all locals. So the ratio was one teacher to seven students. The atmosphere was relaxed and fun. The local gals and teacher(Laura) were most welcoming to us. The theme was COFFEECUPS painted in acrylics — there were sample paintings, each with three coffee cups. But students were not obligated to copy the samples identically. We were encouraged to make our own creations. I don’t drink coffee, so I opted for a teapot and tea cup. For each stage of the painting, Laura demonstrated the technique for the group. Then she circulated, working with each of us one-on-one. Laura was attentive and encouraging. She let us be creative, but was available and helpful. It was the perfect climate to have fun and create a lovely artwork to take home(all in three hours!) Since Laura does private painting parties, and kids classes also, there are many options. I would encourage anyone who is a local or traveling in the area to check out Laura’s classes!
