My home office is near hubby’s bathroom and it used to reek of air fresheners. As I was working, I was choking on chemicals. While I appreciated his courtesy to make his bathroom smell pleasant, his solution was a miss. So while at the Fort Lauderdale Home Design & Remodeling Show a few months ago, we purchased an air purifier for the astronomical price of $ 100. But when we considered the price of plug-in air fresheners/replacement packs, we knew we were spending more than that during the year, so we bought the air purifier.(If you look at my review for the Fort Lauderdale Home Design & Remodeling Show you’ll see a pic of the air purifier with the caption«This better work»!) Besides the chemical smell of the air fresheners, I’ve since learned that most air fresheners contain phthalates that are known to adversely affect hormones, allergies, asthma, and cause birth defects. Instead of dealing with that, by using the air purifiers the air is now free of scent — I smell neither flowers nor bathroom odors! The GT50 plug-in air purifier in hubby’s bathroom quickly removed bathroom odor so we sought to buy more for our house — especially when the product promised to also remove bacteria, allergens, and viruses from the air. In July, we bought a GT3000 air purifier for the open space of our kitchen/dining room and living room and another GT50 for my bathroom. In a space ranging from 250 to 3,000 square feet, the GT3000 «…reduces particles and inactivates microbes to remove mold, mildew, E-coli, Candida, Listeria, Staph, Salmonella, Giardia, Legionella, and Cryptosporidium.» The small machine(roughly 12″ x 12″ x 12″) needs to be placed up high(we keep ours on top of our kitchen cabinets) and comes with a remote control to adjust the fan and purification levels. Both the GT50 and GT3000 have 1 year warranties. So while my main interest is to do things like cook bacon and remove the odor, I’m up for using a product that also inhibits air-borne contaminants. It’s a bonus for us but not the main reason why we made the purchases. Ultimately the machines are working for us and we no longer have ongoing expenses related to masking odors. Note: GreenTech Environmental is based in TN and while there was rumor that they closed, their phone number is still working but more so, I purchased our GT3000 from Scott, who said he owns Go Green Environmental in Stuart, FL, and they are distributing the products. Scott was very helpful(he asked me to call him once I got the GT3000 so he could help me set it up and answer any questions I had); he obviously has a lot of passion for this product and his customers’ satisfaction.
