I’ve known Bruce for close to 30 years. He’s worked on several pieces of equipment that I own. In my opinion he is the most knowledgeable and competent technician in the greater LA area in addition to being one of the nicest techs that I have come in contact with.

It was my first time here and, right off the bat, I have never seen so many drum machines in one room at the same time! Bruce was extremely helpful in fixing my MPC500; this man really knows all there is to drum machines/samplers/synthesizers– you name it. Quick, easy, and affordable. Definitely recommend to anyone looking to fix a broken drum machine. Will definitely stop by for any future repairs. Thanks, Bruce. Real pleasure, brother!

Bruce Forat is THE guy to take your gear. If you have ANYMPC, or SP-1200, Openwaves, MV-8000, etc… that needs servicing i highly recommend taking it to him. He’s been involved with samplers and drums machines since the 80s. He worked with Roger Linn — the guy who innovated the sampler with velocity sensitive pads. The last time i was in there i needed my MPC1000 rotary encoder fixed. its what controls the data wheel. i had to get the part from VST audio(out of stock now), but i took it to Forat to get installed. He fixed it within 2 hours. hardly any turn around time! all together for the labor it was $ 100 flat. sounds like alot, but if you take pride in your electronics, especially ones like the mpc1000 where akai cut costs on many many things, you should take it to a pro and thats exactly what Bruce is — a pro!

What can I say, Bruce is the man. He fixed the usb port on my MPC4000 in 2 hours! He also is a cool and knowledgeable guy. Please read to two reviews before me cuz those guys pretty much summed up everything I wanted to say. Many thanks Bruce!

Coast to coast, for drum machine junkies, Bruce Forat’s shop in Studio City is something of a Mecca. I had dealt with Bruce for years with my SP-1200 repairs before meeting him face to face and the first time I visited the shop I was blown away by the equipment he had laying around. The Forat Shop is like a hospital and rehab center for vintage sampling drum machines, synthesizers, keyboards. Not only that, Bruce is also famous in entertainment circles for customizing MPCs, check out for extensive pictures of artful paint and graphic jobs he has done for his customers over the years. Dealing with these machines can get expensive, but Bruce is really the top of the heap when it comes to fixing these babies. Bruce got his Kung Fu directly from Roger Linn, who Bruce worked under in the 80s. If you know anything about drum machines, that should be all you need to know. If you don’t know anything about drum machines and you have one that you want fixed, definitely hit Bruce up. I recommend handling everything in person if you can, but if you are not near LA, you can ship your equipment to Bruce and he will repair it and ship it back smoothly to you, where ever you might be on the map. Long Live the Yoda of MPCs– Bruce Forat.

This dude knows and loves the MPC. If you have the pleasure of going to Forat, you’ll see the wall filled with signed records and photos, from Def Leopard to Dru Down to Janet Jackson, all personally thanking Bruce for pimping their drum machines. It is possible to have your machine serviced by Bruce without actually going to his store– he is one of the only people that work almost exclusively on the MPC; so people send in their machines from all over the world for his expertise. For a long time I have admired Forat from afar, but this week I took my machine in because it needed some buttons replaced(came down to LA all the way from the Bay Area), and it was worth every mile. Bruce is one of those guys that is obsessive and passionate about his work, maybe to a fault. I dropped my machine off at 2pm, he was done at 7pm. He spent 5 hours working on my machine, replacing about 20 buttons. Besides doing the work I had requested to be done, he checked the entire machine and found things wrong that I wasn’t worried about. Most people would tell you that they found other things that need to be fixed and give you an estimate for the repair, but he fixed those things for free as he found them just because he couldn’t bare to leave the machine in disrepair. Bruce worked with Roger Linn(the creator of the MPC), and later opened up Forat to build his own drum machines. But being one of the few people in the world that knows the ins and outs of the MPC, his store has become the center of the universe for servicing and customizing MPCs. I know if he read this review he would probably say that he does more than just MPCs(I did see some keyboards and other drum machines there), but if Linn is the father of the MPC, then Forat is its favorite uncle.
