Sam’s Green Paw

They continue to be an amazing doggie daycare, groomer, and boarder. We LOVE Sam’s and cannot recommend them enough.
Plus their costs are surprisingly reasonable for this part of LA.

We have been bringing our dogs to Sam’s for about 4 years now. We have a small terrier mix who needs regular grooming to look his best, and Sam’s groomers are always happy to accommodate our requests as the seasons change. Our elderly Tibetan terrier mix, Kara, always came back looking adorable and happy to be dressed up in her natty bandanna (RIP, Kara!). This past year we got a high-​spirited puppy, and have been bringing her to Sam’s for day care. This has been great for her! She spends her day playing and going out for a hike (which is a bit extra), and comes home tired and happy. She bounds up the steps when we bring her and happily greets all the front office workers. We also appreciate their flexibility and friendliness! We’ve never observed any problems with cleanliness or problems with our dogs after grooming. No complaints!

Never have I been so upset with the care my maltese has received. He went in on the 24^th, a perfectly healthy and enthusiastic dog, and when he came back he was clearly the opposite. Throughout the day he got worse. He developed a shiver & now cannot open his right eye & has discharge coming out of it while he has been crying all night due to his discomfort. Not once has he moved from his position because of this. No energy. This is very clearly an eye infection & apparently not the first time this has happened to a customer of Sam’s Green Paw according to another review I read. You just lost a customer because of your lack of care and cleanliness. Would not recommend!

Great place. They take such good care of my little furry pup! And show her kindness and attention. They provide excellent services and know how to cater to clients and animals!

Been coming here for YEARS with no real issues, until today. 5-​hours & my two little dogs were still caged and not groomed. Yes I was upset, no I didn’t yell or call names. Waiting for my dog and a girl covered from head to toe in tattoos (do not know name, hence referring to her inked out body) decided she would open her mouth and actually had the nerve to call me rude & fat. While the Manager did not charge me for the grooming and one of the employees that heard her apologize to me. Not enough.
The manager attempted to make excuses for the girl saying that she’s worked there for a long time. I don’t care if she was there for one day one month or one year. If it were my business and somebody spoke like that to a customer they’d be gone that second. All of the other employees heard her so there was no mistaking what she said. I’m disgusted. Actually, they should give me a lifetime of free grooming based on what this odious employee said for no reason. Any dialogue I was having with them about holding my dogs hostage for hours in a crate had ended at least three minutes before this thing opened her mouth. I was sitting in a chair quietly waiting another hour and a half for my dogs.

Seriously nice place. I can’t thank the staff enough for their gentle, compassionate, thorough grooming of my four rescued dogs. They all look fantastic and each one came out happy and calm! Not only was the service fantastic but the price was really great.

I used to be a huge fan of Sam’s Green Paw when it was called Play it to the Bone. I’ve taken my dogs there for years and was very happy with the grooming and care they took with my pets However, the last 2 times I took my dogs there I was very disappointed and frustrated with their lack of communication when I am very clear and very specific with how my dogs are to be groomed. The first time we had problems was when I brought my 3 dogs in and they neglected to file down the nails and the cut wasn’t right it wasn’t a big deal and they were nice enough to give me a 14.00 discount on the next grooming which I was happy about getting. No big deal I thought. And today, I brought in one pet and asked that she only be shampooed and brushed a lot. When I arrived to pick her up not only had they cut her goatee and facial scruff the most adorable parts about her but they cut her whiskers. When I expressed my extreme indignation at the danger of cutting the whiskers down to nubs I said I had wanted to choke the groomer, and the manager Julian considered my verbalized expression as some sort of terrorist threat and banned me from Sams Green Paw. Thank you for doing for me what I couldn’t do for myself.
Finding a more suitable groomer who understands instructions.
It’s too bad that freedom of expression comes down to «you’ve threatened to harm my groomer» No no I haven’t
You weren’t there when I said it and it wasn’t meant literally but I was frustrated and that’s how I expressed myself.
Take your chances with groomers who don’t follow instructions

I don’t even know who your groomer is but what I said, if you or Julian had been there you would have understood it was not to be taken literally.

This review is long overdue. I am grateful beyond any written expression to Sam’s Green Paw!
They are a life saver. Due to my job, I must drop off my dog 3 times a week for about 12 hours or more. I had major anxiety and fear over other people (strangers) caring for my tiny 4 pound dog for SO many hours. I had a million worries in my head… would he wear himself out playing? would the other dogs harm him? will he eat? what if he gets sick? and the list of worries goes on and on. I’m neurotic nurse and my mind just works this way all the time. Thankfully, all of the staff at Sam’s have been incredible – I call during the day to check up on my baby and they are so willing to give me an update. The staff seem to be happy have genuine love for Mr Pedersen (my dog) and Mr Pedersen seems to love them! He is so happy and is becoming more socialized as a result of his positive day care experience. Knowing my precious dog is in the hands of loving and competent staff makes my heart and nerves relax for a change. Rest assured, I am picky as HELL with who cares for my dog, and I have total confidence in this fantastic facility. Lots of love to Sam’s…

My last post got away from me in error. I love this place. My English Bulldog gets all of his grooming and boarding at sams. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful and my young man actually runs up the steps when we get there. Prices are reasonable also.

Amazing! They groom my dog a lot and are able to control his shedding, somehow. They are super nice and really do love animals. I can’t wait to board my dog there one day soon, because it looks like they have a ton fun!

I have been taking my dogs to Sam’s for over 10 years for grooming, daycare and boarding. Everyone is wonderfully attentive and kind to humans and our furry friends. Even when they are super-​busy they try to accommodate my dachshunds… maybe because they’re such little (and streamlined) dogs?!? Jodi and Toby always enjoy their trips to Sam’s.

They’ve always been able to accommodate last minute groomings. It’s clean and very professional. Perhaps most important, my dog always comes out looking wonderful.

Friendly staff. Great doggie haircuts. Easy to call and make appointment.
Tip: If you pass the meeting they do for Doggie Daycare, you can have your dog released in to play with other doggies in Daycare once their haircut and bath is over.

I’ve taken my dog here a couple times. The place seems very unclean. And I’ve had issues with the services that they say they’ve done but really didn’t. Every time I take my pug-​in I get a D-​shedding shampoo, blow dry, teeth cleaning and get his nails trimmed. My last visit I picked up my dog and they insisted that his nails were trimmed and teeth are clean when I can still see the dirt under his nails and they were still the same length they were when I dropped him off. I saw maybe one or two trimmed but not all of them. His teeth were not clean because his breath still smelled… every time I get them cleaned they smelled minty fresh (at least the same day).
Now just to give you an idea I take my pug every two weeks to get a blowdry teeth cleaning and nails trimming because I live in an apartment and do not like for him to shed everywhere. He is a very clean, indoor dog. I have never ever ever had any issues with fleas until I brought him home from Green Paw. He has the same routine for the past nine years and not once has he ever had fleas until I brought him here. I noticed pretty much after I picked him up that he was itching. I called them and asked them if they thought that maybe it was and anal gland thing because I would have never imagined that he had fleas… They said if I brought him in they can perform that service for me so I went ahead and took him in and paid for them to express his anal glands. After that he still kept itching his back area so I Took a better look and discovered he had FLEAS!!!
He was scratching like crazy!!! Now I had to take him to get cleaned again and had to pay $ 140 for the at home care and removal of all fleas. (Obviously to another groomer).
I was extremely disappointed with green paw and the handling and cleanliness of my dog. I will never bring my dog here again!!!

SHAME ON YOU Sam’s Green Paw for hurting my dog. What you did was so horrible that you should be ashamed. I was very precise in asking you to please do not touch his ears and tail and you cut his ear and put my boy in 14 days of hell. #shameonyou #SAMSGREENPAW

Our dogs LOVE this place! When we take them there they literally charge up the stairs away from us. Leaving us like parents of toddlers who run away to their new friends

If a dog dies, unexpectedly, in your care, after 10 years of being a customer… you send them a sympathy card. Just a $ 2.00 card. A simple sign communicating that you care about your customers. A simple sign that you are empathetic.
I have let years pass before I wrote this review, just to make sure, I was doing it for the right reasons. Sadly, I have concluded, this is just a business to Sam. Which is fine if you are selling pizza or furniture. Sam seems to forget that he runs a business, that takes care of people’s family members. Those animals are loved.
My husband and I are kind, respectful customers. We were gracious and respectful to Sam’s staff because we trusted them. Our dog died at Sam’s shop, and they never thought about us again. That is quite sad. That speaks volumes about the owner and the business.
With so many loving and caring business owners out there, why waste your money supporting a company, that does not support you when you need it most.

Sam, you did forget. You didn’t reach out. Maybe your business is just to big for you to keep the personal relationships. I started out when you were at Chow Bella, then followed you to Play it to the Bone. I followed you. I was loyal & loved supporting your business. I am not bitter or mad, just hurt that I was foolish to believe I mattered and that my business mattered. $ 2.00 card, Sam. The vet and dog walker /​house sitter seemed to find the time to send a card. It wasn’t that my dog died. It was he died in your care.

We have a standard poodle so it’s tricky finding the right groomer. We went to the same shop for the last two years but our groomer recently quit and the last haircut there by a different groomer was disastrous. We were in the market for a new groomer and since Koko has been to Sam’s for daycare off and on since he was 6 months old, i figured we would give this place a try.
When I read the grooming reviews AFTER making the appointment, I was having serious second thoughts. I even called 2 other groomers to see if they could squeeze him in. Well, everyone was fully booked and he really needed a haircut so we figured we would give this place a chance anyway! We are so glad that we did!
A while ago they posted a picture on their facebook page of 2 poodles groomed by Ismael. The poodles looked great so naturally i asked for Ismael! I talked to him when I dropped of Koko, let him know the haircut I was looking for and even showed him a picture of freshly groomed Koko from a few months ago. A few hours later, I picked him up and he looked GORGEOUS!!! I uploaded a photo so go check it out…

I am so upset and angry with Sams Paws I don’t even know where to start. I’ve been coming here for a few years since Camp Happy Dog Closed down unfortunately. And every time I go theirs something not right with my dogs whether their nails aren’t clipped or their cuts are uneven. I had an appointment Friday at 2pm. They told me to pick up my dogs at 2pm. I went there and they were not ready.
–NO curtsy call to tell me my dogs weren’t ready, but instead I went twice and wasted my gas when they weren’t responsible enough to call me and tell me their was a delay. I understand things happen, but what ever happened to good customer service? Calling your customer to tell them that your dogs aren’t ready isn’t too much to ask for.
–I went at 4:30, again and this time my dogs looked horrible. My white poodles face was dirty and not cleaned. And on top of that his face was cut. And his nails were NOT clipped.
–My black poodles ears were wet and curly, and her nails were not clipped either. And she already had an ear infection and by them not making sure her ears were dry worsened her infection.
I asked them «Do you clip their nails» and they always say yes. Well why is it that every time I pick up my dogs their nails are NEVER clipped.
I am so astonished with the condition I picked up my dogs in AND I HAD TO MAKE TWO TRIPS TO PICK THEM UP
WITHOUT A CURTSY CALL. I will NEVER go back there.
SAMS PAWS CLEARLY DOESNT KNOW WHAT GOOD CUSTOMER SERVICE IS AND THEY JUST LOST A LOYAL CUSTOMER.
So long. I would give NO stars if that was an option.
