Hello, Lets start off by saying I am 23 years old and have a disability called Cerebral Palsy which effects the way I walk and talk, however, it does not inhibit my cognitive abilities whats so ever. On Supper Bowl Sunday I stopped into this store with my friend to purchase spirits for the party we were attending that afternoon. My friend and I both pick out a bottle to greet the host with. As my friend and I are about to pay, the cashier told my friend he, the cashier, could not sell me any alcoholic beverages. I began asking him the reason why he couldn’t proceed with my sale but allowed my friends sale to go through. The cashier insisted that there is a law saying that he could not sale alcoholic beverages to disabled patrons. After I asked which law and sub-code stated such a biased law he began claiming that it is unsafe for me to drink. I then went on asking what qualified him to make a health decision on my behalf. As I said very calmly«As a person with his own mind, body and soul, you my friend, are taking away my liberties to make my own decision in this free country» as he calls the police on me. I then asked to speak to the owner and if he wasn’t their please give me his contact information, which he refused to do. I gave him my business card and told him to tell the police to call me when they arrive while my cell phone recording the whole occurrence. This person has made me a victim of discrimination just because the way I look when I walk and talk. He goes so far as to say«Please don’t take this personally.» Please tell me how am I supposed to «take it» when a fellow human being is taking away my right to «Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness» Since liquor licenses are a matter of public record, I was able to find the person who obtains the store and license. I am seeking out a civil rights attorney to discuss my rights on this matter. I would hate to see this business, serving patrons for 30 plus years, lose their license to sell liquor.

Fine store, friendly service, comprehensive selection — that’s all good. BUT: The exterior of Universal Liquors is looking slummy and unkempt. It may be time for an exterior facelift, folks. The cheap-to-begin-with backlit yellow signs are looking dingy and tired. It would be very easy to fix up the front, and would be in keeping with improvements all along the Cahuenga West and Ventura Blvd. corridor.

Great place! The owner has been in business for over 30 years for a reason. They have amazing prices and they have it all. This is where I go to get wine and even to grab some random toiletries needed. They literally sell toilet paper, cups, foil, snacks, etc, etc etc! WHY drive to the market when the local liquor store has it? Ps the staff is super cool.

Your run of the mill liquor place — but it’s a good location and they’re usually pretty friendly(by friendly I mean they mind their own fucking business). Plenty of liquor and cigarette selections as well as dry food goods. Definitely a place to do last minute stocking for a football game or some other manly thing. I’ve only been in once and it’s an alright place. Honestly, it’s not worth much more than that. But they’re clean, and not outrageously priced and always well-stocked. Isn’t that what we ALL look for in our liquor stores?
