Marcus Cinema at the Renaissance – Sturtevant

Love, Love, Love this theater. Dine in Bar/​Restaurant with very good food. UltraScreen is UltraAwesome. This place makes Date Night worth doing a couple of times a week (mainly because of $ 5 Tuesday Movie Night)

So I ordered ticket on line, got my reserved seat in big screen theatre and went to show. After getting comfortable I found out the on line service double booked my seat. The usher and ast mgr were nice and I opted to move as it was a couple that would have been broken up. Unfortunately I was put in front row — on end and couldn’t see squat. It got worse. But that was due to a patron who did not believe in bathing or deodorant. So I went to manger. She was nice. Gave me free pass because of double booking (which was Fandango’s fault). Upon returning on different day things went perfect. I really like the staff, assigned comfortable seating in big theatre and large screen.

So long gone are the days of popcorn and a movie. I was actually scared to go see a movie in a theater over the last few years especially being a dad and a little over protective.
But wow what a difference a year makes. First there is not a bad spot to see the movie. Second the staff is ready, yes they are still teenagers but they are observant and paying attention.
Second they have a bar. Marcus just brought the best of my excuses of why I watch a movie at home to rest.
Full coffee bar, pizza, restaurant, etc… Don’t get me started on the Ultra Screen.
Yea this review is high but they had liquor and I could still be high on the force after seeing Star Wars.
Go you must.

Ah, the power of the cinema! Few things can transport you to a galaxy far, far away for the afternoon so quickly. So why the a-​ok rating you ask?
Look, this is a really nice theater. They were showing a lot movies on several screens. For example, Star Wars was on a regular screen with stadium seating, the ultra plush lounge theater (I’m saying this incorrectly) and there were also 3d versions playing at certain times. The matinée for the regular show was $ 7.50. That’s all fine and dandy, BUT:
–why is food and drink so expensive? They have all kinds of interesting items here (alcohol, zaffiros pizza, stone creek coffee… more alcohol). But I got the pretty uninspired choice of soda and pretzel bites with cheese. It was $ 11.50 — and the girl gave me the special because «its cheaper.» On what planet? Clearly I don’t go to a lot of movies but a fountain soda for over $ 5 seems crazy to me.
–others have mentioned it, but the reserved seating is kinda nice but kinda meh. We painstakingly went online looking for the perfect seat and had to buy tickets all at once so we could sit together. And then when you get to your seat… you still feel like this isn’t the seat I would have chose had I walked in and just chose a seat randomly. («The map is not the territory «).
I mean, otherwise it’s clean and big, there’s a $ 5 special Tuesdays, the seats were super comfy, and the movie (previews, anyhow), started EXACTLY on time.
It’s a-​ok though. My money here will probably only get me a quarter portion, but I’m sure I’ll be back in 2017 for episode VIII.

I had not been to this theater in a long time. I saw Spectre on the Ultrascreen and it was wonderful. The seats in that theater are the nicest I’ve ever been in. They are like a recliner you have at home and are very comfortable. Another nice plus is you get to choose your actual seat. I like to be in the middle to get the full effect of going to the movie. This will be my first choice theater from now on.

In Racine, this is where movies happen. So if it’s movies you want, the choice is already made. They have the ultra screen with the dream loungers, which is dope, but all the other rooms are more than adequate. Concessions are the same as everywhere else, but here they have ice cream, too. The «death by chocolate» or «Choco-​splosion» or whatever they call it is awesome!
They just opened a bar in the lobby. We didn’t go in yet, cuz it was gettin late. Maybe next time. It looked kinda schnazzy/​martini bar-​ish…

We were traveling and had spare time, as we had checked into our hotel down the road so decided to take in a movie. On first glance this one has all the glitter and glamour of a top notch movie theatre, but ended up lacking elsewhere. On our arrival the staff was friendly and decked out in flashy uniforms. We also paid the price for the glitter, as we had paid $ 8 less for the two of us, in our home town a few days ago. One confusing thing was that we picked our own seats on a touch screen before the tickets were printed. At first thought we were thinking this was a great idea! Proved later to be a pain as we didn’t think of a couple things-​movie goers just coming in and sitting down where they found empty seats, even though they had assigned seats. Then later once the movie started, movie goers coming in, and they can’t find their seats in the dark-​WOW bad idea! Too we sat by the door as we were unaccustomed to the the layout on picking our seats. Well during the movie the Marcus Cinema employees came to the opening to check patrons which was good, but one lady seemed to want to watch the movie and stood there for long periods of time-​very distracting and taking from us, the paying patrons. Thank God we were only traveling and we will be much happier attending our local movies maybe with less flair, but way more affordable and enjoyable!

I fail to understand assigned seating. I know, let’s make someone search for their seat in the dark and disrupt everyone around them even if half the theatre is empty. Yes! Good idea! Also, don’t drive in the parking lot after dark. You may not come out with all the rims and tires you came in with. FIX THE POTHOLES!!! The only saving grace of this theatre is at least your feet don’t stick to the floor.

I toggled between 3 and 4 stars. I must admit, I was delighted to discover that they now have hot wings on the menu!!! Unfortunately, my 2^nd visit of 2014 was on a night when I was way too full to squeeze any additional food into my body so the hot wings can’t help the review. My 1^st visit left me so annoyed that I didn’t feel like eating. Imagine that!
My disappointment began with my first visit of 2014 and the reserved seating. I planned a big outing for the $ 5 Tuesday deal. Just like last year, we arrived to learn that our movie had sold out. If it happens again next year, I’m not going to believe the movies primarily starring African Americans are always coincidentally sold out and my review will include some statistics. Nevertheless, the first person who arrived attempted to buy us tickets for the next show and she called to ask where we wanted to sit. It was annoying! Not everyone was there yet. That meant cousin number one had to buy all of the tickets for the entire family and hope they all agreed to show up to the later time or just buy a few tickets and risk not sitting together. It was a frustrating and unnecessary obstacle in my opinion. Why reserved seating? On my second visit, my date picked our seats only to go in the theater and discover somebody else was already in them anyway! Four AND five! It should just be first come, first serve and that’s it.
I also got mad at the trickery surrounding the popcorn with the $ 5 Tuesday. It used to be free and everyone I went with thought it was still free. There was a long line of people discovering the new rules for that tiny bag of popcorn. You have to be a member, purchase the ticket with your member card, and you cannot get refills. Time for a new family tradition I say!
Overall, my experience with this theater in 2014 was just okay. I don’t like changes. I lied. I like that they serve hot wings! I just don’t like the other changes. Maybe I’ll have a 2015 update but maybe I won’t. I do want to try the hot wings.

Pros: Nice theater, super clean, free refills.
Cons: reserve a seat (bad for groups), pricey, matinée ends after 4 on fri-​sun

Like the new seating and wish it was in other rooms. Not a fan of the assigned seating. Overall though it is way better than most theaters in the area.

What a great movie going experience you can’t beat the Ultrascreen with the new recliners! The only place to watch a movie better then your couch at home! The Tuesday special is fantastic but book ahead to get your favorite seat.

The new reclining seats in Ultra screen have spoiled me! Not sure I can sit in any of the other rooms now. Very comfortable and unlike others have mentioned, I actually like knowing where I’m sitting so I don’t mind the assigned seats. I just order it online and choose which ones I want.

Mandatory seating is ridiculous. I fail to see the strategy. All I know is if the kids want to meet their friends they need to all wait for one another and THEN purchase tickets together if they want to sit together.#FAIL

I am a huge fan of the current $ 5 Tuesday promotion. It rocks! This is a pretty nice theater, comfortable and clean enough, Nothing terribly exciting about it thought, pretty run of the mill.

Generic movie theater. Coffee and Ice Cream bar are a nice touch.

The theater itself is nice. I love the live piano when you walk in. The seats are nice and plush, the staff courteous, and was clean. However, while driving up to the theater it was like I’d imagine a scud missle attack would look like. There where pot holes and cracks everywhere. Fix this and its 4.5 stars.

I grew up in Racine and have seen 4 movie theaters close, 4 of them being Marcus cinemas. So, now they have this huge theater that is supposed to be for the entire Racine area and it seems like Racine would’ve been better off with keeping the smaller theaters. Yes, I did go here on the day after Christmas and it was crazy busy, but it shouldn’t take almost 10 min to make my cousin a caramel latte. 1 star for the comfy chair and another for Diet Mt. Dew on tap. :-)
Bigger isn’t always better… it all depends on what you do with it!

Marcus is the dominant cinema chain in the area, and after all these years, I still can’t really figure out why.
We showed up a bit before 9PM for a 9:15PM showing of Bolt 3D. Being a kids movie, I figured that the late showing wouldn’t be too popular, and I was correct. There were about two dozen patrons waiting in the hall. We waited… and waited… 9:10… 9:15… it finally got to 9:18 and they let us in the theater. The commercials were over, the previews were already running. Now, I realize it’s a huge commitment of staff to put somebody at the door to hand out the 3D glasses, but you would think that given that they’re charging $ 2/​pair on top of the already outrageous $ 10 adult ticket price, that they could maybe — just maybe — task somebody to stand there for the fifteen minutes prior to the show, so we wouldn’t have to stand in a line and wonder what kind of idiots run the joint.
It’s typical Marcus. They’ve spent a lot of money on a flashy facility, which is then left to be run by a bunch of teenagers who don’t give a damn, don’t clean the restrooms, and when the show is done, come into the theater and stare at you while the credits are running so that you leave a little faster (after all, I’m sure they want to close up for the night and get out a little earlier). There are more professionally operated cinemas in the area. Sadly, none that I know of with 3D capabilities.
