This is a great spot for a down home country meal. They are located right off the interstate and offer fresh vegetables. They have great daily specials and open only till 5 so you have to get there early. They also sell old time candies and from the jar so you fill like you are in an old drug store. They have homemade pies for sale. While waiting for your food you can look around as they have old antiques for sale there also. Good customer service and good food.

Honey, this little shit shanty, grocery store, used appliance center, and crab shack is the DOPE for fried seafood dinners. I went out here to snag a used appliance off a Craig’slist ad. As soon as we walked into this dubious looking place, my husband and I looked at each other, and said, ‘damn, something smells good’. Tucked in the front corner is a little fish fry operation. I got deviled crabs, my husband got the fried fish and shrimp platter. As we waited for our food, a steady stream of locals came in to pick up phone orders. We bought a used refrigerator for a rental unit, and got our go boxes, which we devoured in the car. The fried crabs were delicious. A yummy, spicy crab mixture, meaty and well seasoned was packed into the aluminum crab shaped pans, which were dipped in a spicy beer batter and fried. Piping hot, spicy crab waited under the puffy spicy batter, and it was glorious! My husband’s fish and shrimp dinner did not disappoint-2 huge filets of golden fried fish, yummy hush puppies, a bunch of golden fried shrimp, a cup of slaw, and some perfectly crisp, salted fries like you WISH you got at most places were waiting! We couldn’t even finish all that food, and it was only $ 16 with a liter size soft drink! Dude, this is the place to hit up if you’re out Suffolk way! I would definitely go for a Sunday afternoon drive from VB for a great fish fry! The place is a rundown old supermarket that shares space with the used appliance guy-who was charming and negotiable, too! They also sell a fascinating assortment of canned and dry goods, ethnic hair extensions, makeup, jewelry, sunglasses, hats, and other stuff. It’s an interesting joint to say the least. You can’t imagine how incongruous it is, it’s like wandering into some lost in time spot. We’ll be back! Fried hard crabs next time! Not too many places offer them, and they looked amazing, too!

If you are an aficionado of fried crabs… THISISYOURSPOT. I’ve lived in Newport News most of my life and am proud to say I have hit up almost every seafood shop in the area. Regardless of whether it is a small mom and pop shop or a major conglomerate… Farmer Joe’s has the best fried crabs in VA. From the moment you take your first bite, there is a rush of flavor that fills your mouth. From sweet, to salty, to spicy. in a nice deep fried crust, you will not be disappointed. Hands down, the best I’ve ever had.
