We enjoy this park. There is a large, open space with playgrounds for the kids. The shelters do fill up on nice weekends. This park is on the water and a future kayak launch is coming! There is a pond where people fish, and a small dog park on the far side of the park. We often ride bikes on this side of the park b/c it’s a loop and not a lot of traffic here… perfect for kids.

Nice spot to bring the kids. It’s usually pretty quiet. Nice playground, picnic tables, huge grassy field for running around, and some short hiking trails. Rumor has it they’re hoping to get a kayak launch area. Fingers crossed!

If you are struggling to figure out something to do with the kids, this might be a good option. It is off Sleep Hole Rd and the parking lot is pretty small. Some local gardeners manage an area that has lots of plants and it attracts butterflies. At least my kids enjoy the area for about 15 minutes before moving on. The playground equipment is good and in working condition. There is at least one trail, a small pond, horshoe pits and lots of pavilions. The areas are wide open, so I would suggest lots of sunscreen for everyone. I would also say this is a good place to fly a kite. Lots of wide open area. Not as good as Mt. Trashmore, but right up there. Again, good place to burn off some energy or to have a quick picnic.

I just discovered this place when I went here for a doggy training get together. Large and clean public park, one of the best I’ve visited in Hampton Roads. They have picnic shelters, volleyball courts, nature trails, a freshwater lake, playground, horseshoe courts(!) and plenty of parking. Tons of open space with nice green grass! Only wish they had an enclosed dog park area.
