Sluggers is an indoor batting cage facility located in downtown Suffolk off of Constance Road(US58 Business). It sits on the northern end of the Suffolk West Shopping Center. Parking is ample. If you can’t find any parking in the front then there’s an abundance of parking on the north side of the building. This location is in downtown Suffolk and as such this is considered an urban location. Keep your head on a swivel as there are people walking around and riding on bicycles. Once you enter the establishment, you’ll be greeted by a staffer that stands behind a checkout desk on the right side. You’ll notice you’ve walked into a lobby-type area that also doubles as a sales floor for various baseball/softball equipment for purchase. When you look to the left side, you’ll notice that there’s more racks of items for sale including an area of cleats that are lined up neatly against a wall. Further beyond that, there’s a bar like area that has a popcorn machine and what looks like a small food menu. I suspect that this is Slugger’s concession/canteen area but I’ve never seen anyone behind there anytime I visit. I guess that person works there at certain hours or for special events like birthdays or large gatherings. When standing in the main entrance lobby, if you look straight ahead you’ll see a passage that leads to the batting cages. The batting cages are set up so that you have the fast pitch cages on the right side of the layout and the slower pitch and softball cages towards the left. I believe that there’s two cages that don’t have pitching machines and a coach or parent can go in there and throw manually to the batter, behind a screen of course! Sluggers is pretty large as even beyond the cages there’s a room in the back with an additional area for pitching/batting and restrooms. There’s a large sit-down area that I can best describe as a «hall» if you will where a baseball team or a somewhat medium to large amount of people can sit-down and have meetings or, throw a birthday party which seems to be a popular option there. The staff is friendly and helpful. I took my 14-year old son there one day to work him out because I’m such a mean dad like that, and, after hitting around 200 pitches or so, the fast pitch machine started acting erratic and ultimately jammed up. The staff on duty quickly went to work bringing the pitch machine back to life and even gave us an additional token to accommodate our troubles. I was thankful. My son, not so much. He was ready to go so I saved the token for his younger brother that I will work out at a future date. I can’t remember the price for the tokens right off of my head and I’m hesitant to guess. That can either turn people away from visiting a great business or make Sluggers wonder who is responsible for spreading false info. So I’ll tell you what I’ll do: After my next visit I’ll get all of that information then come back and update the review, how about that? Yeah? Okay, cool.
